Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

I just checked and the Ghosts Christmas special is available on HBO Max, along with the previous episodes. (BTW, there is also an animated Ted Lasso Christmas special, though that’s on Apple TV+.)

We finished The Widow last night. It was an okay series with some plot holes. I didn’t like the whole “white people save the poor Africans” angle, though. Anybody who has spent time in Africa knows the fallacy of that. It was filmed in RSA, but was set in the DRC, where no non-African person would dream of wandering about in the boonies by himself. But at least the scenery, the homes and the people all rang true to my experience there.

I came across a series I’d never heard of on Amazon Prime. It’s an Australian series called Packed to the Rafters. It’s not terribly exciting, just a family dramedy but I’ve been enjoying it. I like to watch it in bed. It doesn’t matter too much if I drift off.

Korean series about a mission to recover some macguffins from an abandoned Moon base.

I’ve enjoyed all the other recent Korean stuff I’ve seen, but this one was so dull that I was literally struggling to keep my eyes open by the end of episode one.

It’s getting mixed reviews, but mine is that it is very dull. I did not find any of the characters interesting, I do not care what happened to the moonbase, and I’m glad I only downloaded the first ep.

One summer I got into the series about air disasters that examine why planes crashed…pilot error, design flaw, etc.

It turns out one is also free on prime. I think there was one series that was re-branded but basically the same.

We’re liking Mindhunters. A fictionalized look at the beginnings of the FBI BAU

We never finished watching Episodes back in the day for some reason, so we’ve started over on it. It’s leaving Netflix in January and we’ve got five seasons to watch. Matt LeBlanc doing self-parody to perfection.

I’m starting on Kin. It’s an Irish series about a crime family. I’m only two episodes in but the entire series only consists of eight episodes for now.

At this point, I’m on the fence. The characters are fairly two-dimensional, which is acceptable for only two episodes, and I’m waiting to see if they get more depth.

This is a great show- I was not much of a Friends fan and had no idea Matt LeBlanc was hilarious.

The Silent Sea: The first episode is people talking and talking. The second episode is people walking and walking. There’s a lot more talking and a lot more walking to come, and some running and running too. That’s about as exciting as it gets. And there are logical plot holes galore. People walking around in areas known to be highly contaminated wearing no protective gear. That sort of thing. We watched it in two-episode chunks over successful nights in an effort to keep track of the plot. Even at that, when we got to episode 7, neither of us could piece together some of what was going on. Not recommended.

Finished the latest season of Archer (season 12). It’s still diverting enough to watch but honestly, they’ve done nothing particularly new or noteworthy in the last two seasons and really should have left it at ten.

But at least Jessica Walter gets a nice sendoff at season end.

Still working on Yellowstone, been off the exercise for a bit , but done with season one and about to hit up 2, will have to take a look at 1888 ot whatever the prequel is .

Ran through season one and two of Ted Lasso with my daughter (3rd go around for me) and we started up watching Firefly, a show I never watched , very enjoyable. Will have to finish up the Expanse on an amazon watch party.

We got a couple of episodes into Wheel of Time but didnt carry on.

Mrs Mollusc is watching Emily in Paris, which I occasionally also watch.

Yeah, Archer is a pale imitation of what it once was.

We started watching Invincible on Amazon Prime. We’re really liking it. It’s basically a dark superhero cartoon masquerading as a light superhero cartoon. Its ethic is much more The Boys than Marvel MCU. The voice talent is star studded.

I’m anxiously awaiting the next season of Invincible. And the voice talent is impressive. A lot of them have connections to The Walking Dead, since they share Robert Kirkman as a creator.

Invincible is great - I’d read the comic up to a certain point (they’ll probably get to that point by the end of season 2 or shortly thereafter at the rate they’re going) and it does keep you wanting more.

Kobra Kai season four is now up on Netflix. Yeah, it’s cheesy and predictable, but what the heck.

I was scrolling through Netflix yesterday and realized I finished season 1 of Lillyhammer months ago.

I didn’t not like it, but have yet to feel the urge to move on to the next season. Not sure if that constitutes “giving up.” I may still eventually get to it.

I couldn’t even get through season one of that one.

We’re watching And Just Like That, the sequel to Sex and the City (minus Kim Cattrall).

It seems painfully obvious that the producers were stung by the criticism that SatC was solely focused on straight white women (plus their one gay friend). So this time they’re playing Diversity Bingo and making sure they squeeze as much in as possible: Charlotte has a Black friend. Carrie has an Indian friend. Carrie’s podcast boss is non-binary. Miranda is bi-curious. Charlotte’s daughter is questioning her gender identity…etc etc etc

But is it actually good? Meh. But my wife was a big SatC fan, so we have to watch.

Season 2 is on HBOMax now.

Cc: @Chefguy who also seemed to enjoy S1.
