Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

Thanks. Actually, I don’t think I ever finished it; I’ll have to check.

That sounds a bit cringeworthy; the wife and enjoyed ‘Working Moms’ on Netflix, which I think is similar to SatC (close-knit female posse prone to booze and scandal), but more funny and less life-lessony.

I must be in the minority, but I couldn’t stand SatC or anybody in it, especially Sarah Jessica Parker who I absolutely loathe.

Mrs. Wheelz and I somehow got all the way through the first episode but that was it. The writing was flat and dull and the acting was atrocious. These are professional actors, right? Didn’t they used to be, at least?

I had had the big shock ending spoiled, so I knew what was coming, so it’s possible I would have felt differently if I didn’t. But the buildup to that was long, tedious, and obvious.

I actually enjoyed the original SatC series and the first movie. After the horrible sequel and now this, I’m done.

And is veering way in a different direction in the last few episodes.

Same here.

We’ve been watching Harrow, an Australian crime drama with Ioan Gruffudd. It’s fluffy, but fun. Sometimes I could use fluffy but fun.

Just finishes Season 4 of Yellowstone.

I can’t understand what the show wants me to do. It seems to want me to like John Dutton because he’s a good ole boy Montana rancher fighting the outsiders who would turn it into Disneyland, but he and all of the rest of the characters are so cartoonishly evilly flawed such that I feel torn after every episode. (Yet I keep watching).

Also, it seemed to beggar belief that you can get life in prison in Montana for throwing rocks at a police officer.

I watched a bunch of Mayday (air crash investigations) on Prime (included) and where I could find them for free. I think they give you a free taste in hopes you’ll buy other seasons. Then I tried youtube.

You can find lots of them there, but many of them are sort of “scrambled.” A man is talking and suddenly you see a woman’s lips moving, saying something totally different. You see the same video clip of a man twice. There’s interference, like the signal is noisy or whatever. Or it may break off for a split second. I suspect they’re trying to throw off the bots looking for copyright infringement.

I’ve been bingeing GTOger on YouTube. Anyone familiar with the channel?

It’s a business in Dallas that does cloud storage, maintains servers, that kind of thing. They have a small parking area that has to be kept open for customer use. However, there are bars, restaurants, music venues, etc nearby so people park in their lot.

The business contracted with a tow service and put up many signs. Being an IT company they also put up dozens of cameras.

One employee (GTOger) edits the footage and adds sound effects, visual effects, fun facts, etc. The videos are hilarious and addicting.

Just been watching “the detectorists” with the kids (14 and 16). My wife and I have already seen it but we didn’t give them any background other than the barest description.

They adored it. Begging to binge it they were but we spun all 3 series out over a week. They whooped and wailed at various points which is very unusual.

We are going over various classic comedy series at the moment and next on the list is “The Office” (UK version).

Your kids have excellent taste. Detectorists is the only series we binged watched three times in a row in as many months.

We bulldozed through all five seasons of “Episodes” in the last three days (today is its last day on Netflix). Hands down the funniest comedy series I’ve seen in years. A brilliant cast for the most part, including Matt LeBlanc, but the writing is where this thing really shines. Too many dick jokes, but the rest of it made up for it. And the twist at the end was perfect.

Finally got Disney+ as a New Year’s present to myself. Was thinking, I’ll just watch the MCU and Star Wars shows plus the Beatles documentary, but the catalog is actually pretty tempting. All seasons of Futurama, which I’ve never seen? Uh-oh…

Anyway, burned through WandaVision in a couple of days and started on Falcon and Winter Soldier. Watched the first part of Get Back.

Dealing with some missing programs on other services. Amazon Prime dropped Smallville when I was four episodes into the final (!) season and it doesn’t seem to be streaming anywhere else here. And FX on Demand (which I get through Crave) appears to have lost most of American Horror Story. I’d finished season 3, thankfully, but currently it seems only season 10 and part (huh?) of season 1 is still there. Disney+ carries it, but only the seasons I’ve seen plus the new anthology series (American Horror Stories) but I’ve heard that a lot of it is callbacks to the show and I want to avoid spoilers.

I watched episodes 2 and 3 of American Auto. Ana Gasteyer is a former pharmaceutical exec who becomes the CEO of a struggling car company. Some folks say it is an unfunny “The Office”, but I think “Better off Ted” is a closer comparison (no, it isn’t as good as BOT). I liked the 2nd episode more than the third.
One of thier cars is being used by a serial killer
(we could use the GPS t9o track the killer)
reporter: "doesn’t this have privacy considerations, don’t you care about privacy?
Ana: Of course we care about privacy
reporter: so you aren’t going to release the info to teh FBI?
Ana: nope
(headline) “Payne Motors supports serial killer”

I’ve been enjoying American Auto so far, though it suffers from some tonal inconsistencies, swinging for both broad farce and wry satire but not quite nailing either. If they can find the right balance it could be great.

I get more of a “Veep” vibe than an “Office” vibe. Harriet Dyer (Sadie) is Anna Chlumsky lite.

Try and track down Mackenzie Crook’s newest series, Worzel Gummidge. It’s aimed at kids younger than yours, but tonally it’s a good match and I think they will still get a kick out of it. There are six hour-long episodes made so far.

Make sure not to confuse it with the 1970s adaptation, which has its charms, but is much more juvenile.

If you have access to HBO Max, I recommend Ghosts, of which there have been three series (seasons) so far with a fourth about to start shooting. It’s from the same people who made Horrible Histories (which is also available on a US streaming service).

Already taken care of via the BBC iPlayer. We are UK based so Horrible Histories were a staple of their childhood. The songs are still in circulation (particularly the kings and queens of England).
So yes, they loved Ghosts as well, and the Christmas special this year was the thing they were looking forward to most.

My daughter has found that of her own accord and enjoyed it.
I did note on re-watching “detectorists” that Andy’s hard hat in series 3 had “Sally” on it. A reference to Worzel Gummidge perhaps?

So I assume they have seen Yonderland?
