Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

I wish people would use spoilers for things like this.

I finished All Her Fault (Peacock). I will admit that it went in directions that I didn’t expect, and wrapped up all the loose ends. But to do so it required some unbelievable coincidences, incredible leaps of deduction, and far-fetched scheming. And there is a lot of padding and superfluous characters. But I was entertained and would recommend.

Netflix released a second season of A Man on the Inside last week. It was created by Michael Schur (of The Good Place, The Office and other stuff) and stars Ted Danson. I liked it.

I’m struggling to like season 2 as much as season 1.

I watched the first episode of S2 last night and I agree. It felt like they were shoe-horning characters from the previous season in for no reason and some of the acting in this episode was atrocious. I am going to keep watching, though, to see what develops. Danson continues to be excellent, so I’m hoping it improves.

Wife and I are five episodes in and quite enjoying it. We’ll likely finish tonight.

One thing I will say is that it feels much more sitcom-y than season 1. Some wackier characters and sillier situations. I can understand some people being put off by the shift in tone. But I’m not mad at it.

We did like that they took an episode (Thanksgiving dinner) to kind of step away from the plot and focus on the characters. Nicely done.

I have a guess about who the culprit is (and I guessed right in the previous season), but the whodunnit isn’t really the point anyway.

Just starting in on the “restored” Beatles Anthology on Disney+. It’s been years since I’ve seen the original series, it’s good spending time with the lads from Liverpool again.

(This is regarding Man on the Inside.)

I was right, sort of. I had suspected Holly, but didn’t see the Orient Express bit coming. Though, as I said before, that’s not really the point. It’s more about the ride and the characters.

I did think this season was rather anticlimactic. Or rather, they spent too much time tying up all the loose ends a little too neatly. Season one ended more messily, which somehow felt more satisfying.

Still enjoyed it though. Ted Danson is always a pleasure to watch. It was fun seeing him work with Mary Steenburgen, and the supporting cast all nailed it. If there’s another season I’ll definitely watch.

Finished the most recent season of Blue Lights. A good wrap and a good series, leaving some room for another season.

I did not read your spoiler and I will be curious to see what you thought. My thoughts, with zero evidence to back them up, are(only spoiling speculation here):

Lumberg, I mean Gary Cole, did it himself. Or there was this other lady they briefly showed I was suspecting as well.

Thanks for the previous positive mentions of Godless. It was tough and gritty indeed with a fun finale. Good work by the always dependable Scoot McNairy.

That’s how I’ve felt about Emergency!– that NBC hit of the 70s was, IMO, and always will be, the medical and firefighting version of what Barney Miller would be on ABC for police in that same decade (very realistic to how a fire station/engine company actually runs, as well as the hospital the paramedics work with, just as Miller would be with how a police station/precinct actually runs).

Of course, neither of those kinds of firefighting/medical or police shows are really made anymore these days.

Today’s Dick Tracy has unexpectedly started me rewatching some My Name is Earl. Only watched the first two episodes so far, but it seems to have aged fine.

But is there an opportunity to buy Dick Tracy Tommy Gun, Dick Tracy 2-Way Wrist Radio, Dick Tracy Snub-Nose .38 Detective Special, Dick Tracy Tracer Gun, whatever…

Having finished the fourth season of The Morning Show I don’t think I’ll be coming back for more. Not only has the show itself become more and more of a soap opera, but Jennifer Anniston’s acting is becoming more and more soap opera-ish. I fear it’s only a matter of time until Anniston and Reese Witherspoon get into a fight and tumble into a fountain.

It’s soapy as hell and also carries a rather strange message, considering the source. The old-school, racist, sexist, corporate white males are ousted in a ‘me-too’ scandal. Finally, women and minorities are in power! Things are going to be much better now! But then most of the new guard are portrayed as being entitled, racist, corporatist, irresponsible, occasionally evil, and also downright foolish with their sexual peccadilloes.

I mean, the show is entertaining, especially when they mix in actors like Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons. The cast is very good overall, but I’d have to agree that Aniston is the weakest performer. Also,

If I do get tempted by another season, I sure hope Greta Lee comes back. Probably not, though…that was an epic crashout.

We started watching “Big Cats” on Britbox. It’s about a group of conservationists/filmmakers following and filming lions, cheetahs and leopards in the Okavango Delta in Botswana. It’s a bit nostalgic for us, as we went on photo safari there. So far, it’s been mostly footage of the people instead of the animals, with lots of cut scenes of the photographers mounting their giant cameras.

I’ve also started my other guilty pleasure of the latest season of “Stranger Things”. Hard to remember WTF was going on in the prior seasons.

Got Britbox a couple of weeks ago and really dig Ripper Street.

We just subscribed to the Disney/Hulu $4.99 bundle for the next year. Any suggestions?

Note: We like crime dramas, family dramas. Star Wars is not really our bag, nor is Marvel.
