Ozark trailer dropped:
Misfits without the powers?
The Stranger, a mystery/thriller on Netflix. It’s well-acted and does hold your interest, but there’s just too much going on. The ending is preposterous. While the main plot line is resolved, the way in which it is resolved would never hold up under scrutiny. And a lot of sub-plots (there are too many) are either red herrings or totally unresolved at the conclusion.
I’m unfamiliar with Misfits so I can’t say.
Mrs. L lost interest in the series, but I’ll keep watching. It looks like a pretty strong premise if the writers can keep it going. Each of the characters has a story line outside the work detail. For example, Walken’s character is just out of prison, wearing an ankle bracelet, and it trying to win back his daughter’s affection (as soon as that’s off, she says he’ll have to leave).
Also on the work detail: an incompetent lawyer, a mixed-race young woman who was accepted to Oxford, a businessman, a young black man struggling to corral his younger sister in the projects, a social media influencer, and more.
Their lives are intersecting in various ways outside the work detail, sometimes unintentionally, at times causing collateral damage.
Here’s an article saying that although it’s only six episodes, it was renewed before it even premiered.
Years back, the first couple of seasons of Veep was on Amazon. I watched and really enjoyed it but wasn’t willing to pay for the rest of the seasons. I now have HBOMax which carries Veep. I’ve been watching a couple of episodes in bed every night before I drift off. I find it hilarious. I laugh out loud numerous times in every episode.
Veep was great!
I should give it a re-watch. It’s one of those shows where the jokes come so fast you can miss half of them.
In an attempt to catch up before the new Dr Strange movie is released, I’ve been watching some of the MCU tv series.
Loki was generally good with a strong cast. But I feel the final episode of the first season dropped the ball.
What If has been hit or miss, with more misses than hits for me.
I’ve watched the first episode of Hawkeye and it’s mostly just introducing new characters. I’ll withhold judgement until I see where this goes.
I’ve watched the first two episodes of WandaVision and I feel this is a series where you need to see the entire series in order to understand what’s being said.
On a non-MCU note, I’ve almost finished the first season of Humans. There were a few moments when I had my doubts, but they have managed to pull together several plotlines into a coherent whole.
We’re watching Yellowjackets. It’s not quite what I was expecting, which I am happy about.
BETTER CALL SAUL IS BACK!! Season five has dropped on Netflix.
Season six of Better Call Saul is scheduled to premiere on AMC on April 18, so two weeks from today.
Ah, crap! Netflix has BCS up front and center. It says Season 5, but it says “new episodes”, which is bullshit. I’m so disappointed.
Mr. and Mrs. Murder. Australian comedy/mystery series abut a pair of crime scene cleaners who solve murders. The female lead is great, but the male is smarmy and annoying. They have the police investigator in love with her just so the lead can make little jealous digs that get old.
I quite enjoyed this show (the male lead is a popular comedian and writer in Aus) but felt the plots were a bit too convenient for crime scene cleaners to wander in and out of people’s lives asking probing questions without consequence. It got better as it went along, but it never got renewed.
Does he write his own dialog?
I’m sure he tweaked it where he could.
Well, the fifth season would be new to anyone who is only able to see the show on Netflix. (I think they time the appearance of the fifth season to the appearance of the sixth season.)
Decided to give Killing Eve a try. I liked the first ep.
I guess this doesn’t fall into any of the 3 OP categories quite yet, but I’m mildly intrigued to watch ‘Outer Range’ when it premiers on Prime Video in mid April. Not much to go by from the trailer, but apparently it’s a sci-fi or supernatural mystery in which Josh Brolin plays the patriarch of a struggling ranching family in Wyoming, and he finds a mysterious big-ass hole in the ground on the edge of his property. Which causes some sort of mystery weirdness in the nearby town, I guess?
Some interesting names in addition to Brolin, but I’m a little leery of getting drawn into another “mystery” show, having been burned by shows like ‘Lost’ and ‘Manifest’ that just spin out into ridiculous nonsense, or ‘Debris’ that get unceremoniously cancelled after you’ve let yourself get a bit invested.
I might go from “now watching” to “recently watched” to “have given up on” in short order with this one
I’ve been watching “Julia” on HBO Max and really love it- I expected to because Sarah Lancashire is one of my favorite UK actresses but the supporting staff (including 2 Frasier/Cheers Alumni) is also very good.
I’m caught up on Severance , it reminds me a lot of Counterpoint but much more confusing. I may need to re-watch as when I read the thread here on it, I feel like I lost track of a lot that was happening. Not a relaxing, easy show to watch for sure.
We are also watching Our Flag Means Death which is very fun and silly- love Rhys Darby & Taika Wapiti but also a very funny support cast especially Ewen Bremner (Spud!). Stede Bonnet is the Ted Lasso of pirates and Taika is Blackbeard.
