Series you've recently watched, are now watching or have given up on

I just restarted an old (1998? is that old) BBC series called Ultraviolet about vampires. Has young Jack Davenport and a baby Idris Elba. Very good and it’s on Amazon video I think.

Mrs. solost and I just finished this last night as well. Agreed, very well done, and I thought Amanda Seyfreid did a great job with the character.

Between ‘The Dropout’, ‘Inventing Anna’ and ‘The Thing About Pam’, it’s been a weird trilogy of devious women literally or metaphorically getting away with murder for awhile until they face a reckoning.

Speaking of ‘The Thing About Pam’, anybody watching that? It’s a really good watch, very entertaining. It actually has an oddly lighthearted, comedic tone for a series about a woman who’s a con artist and murderer. I almost feel guilty for laughing at the funny parts. Renee Zellweiger is killing it (hehe) as Pam.

Watched the trailer for ‘The Thing About Pam’ 3 times. Where’s Renee, I wondered? 4th time - oh, d’oh.

Yes, she is quite hidden under that fat suit. All the more amazing what a great performance she gives.

Oh, I liked him! I loved the throwaway lines he’d mutter under his breath. Makes sense he’s a comedian.

Also, I loved their house in that show. I have a real soft spot for that type of Australian Victorian cottage .

Where is this??? I loved the books. My kind of spy stories.

Does Gary Oldman play Jackson Lamb?

Well, I guess I have my answer!

Apple TV

I’m really enjoying that show. It’s presented differently than the books, but very good entertainment all the same.

Ok Mandalorian question, if it isn’t a massive spoiler but why does he not like droids?

It’s not a huge spoiler, there are flashbacks that give it away in the first few episodes. His parents were killed by Super-Battledroids during the Clone Wars.

In my ongoing rewatch of Peaky Blinders in preparation for the final season, Aiden Gillen’s role came to my attention. That guy had a nice run of parts over about a 15 year period, no? Important roles in The Wire and Game of Thrones made for a pretty good CV.

Ahhhh right , thanks!

Also carrying on with The Right Stuff on Disney , they seem to have done a pewtty decent job with the likness ro the real people .
I know these people were very competitive, but I wonder if it is a little over blown, Sheperd is comingoff as a serious arsehole, although he may well have been.

I suspect that was closer to the real Shepard than the jokey Scott Glenn characterization in the movie doing his Jose Jimenez impersonation.

Hulu has a series named “The Boonies” that was on National Geographic originally. It follows some different people living off the grid. Pretty interesting so far! One lives in a cave, another lives on an island in Lake Michigan, 18 miles from the mainland, another couple lives in a sort of tree house…

I started to watch this over the weekend. It’s good and I’m looking forward to seeing the mysteries resolved.

Having set aside The Marvellous Mrs. Maisel mid-Season 1 due to other distractions, I’ve picked it up again and am enjoying it immensely. I’ve probably laughed out loud more at this show than any other sitcom I’ve watched recently and there are so many great characters well-acted, plus I never tire of Luke Kirby’s excellent Lenny Bruce.

Just finished Downton Abbey, loved it. Liked how each Crawley had their servant doppelganger (Mary/Thomas, Robert/Carson, Cora/Hughes, Edith/Moseley, etc), wasn’t too bothered by historical inaccuracies, and was such a white show that I called Lord Gillingham ‘the ethnic one’.

Reading up in imdb, it seems that this only lasted one season. I notice that it ends with them preparing for winter—that, to me, would be the most interesting part. I’ll watch the rest of them but it’s disappointing that it will end there.

If you can find it, another “reality” type of series from years back, this was on PBS and it was excellent. They tried to keep true to the period etc. You may be able to watch it all on youtube now…there were only six episodes.

The pbs reality shows were fun and educational.
