He was also in at least one of the newer Star Wars films, as Evil Empire Commander, or something like that, though he probably wouldn’t thank me for reminding anyone.
And he appeared in an episode of Black Mirror as a man ‘brought back to life’ by his partner using his social media history.
I had given up on “Silicon Valley” early in season 5. Felt it was just spinning its wheels, and Richard especially to me was sometimes downright uncomfortable to watch. I decided to watch it again, and promised my self I would skip ahead if any moment felt too tedious.
All in all it paid off, they made some smart reshuffling of the cast. Laurie was made an outright adversary, Monica joins the company and becomes sort of frenemy of Guilfoyle. Jared breaking with Richard and finding another ‘assistee’ who is even more socially awkward and helpless when not coding … wasn’t funny or interesting, thankfully they abandoned that quickly.
Most reliably funny thing in the show is Matt Ross’ portrayal of the slimy, bombastic Gavin Belson, but for some seasons he has mostly been in his own orbit. In season 6 they incorporate him better in the main plot.
The ending wasn’t brilliant, but all in all satisfying.
Would just like to point out that The Good Place, The Good Doctor, Good Sam, Good Witch, Good Girls, Good Omens, and Good Trouble are not spin-offs of The Good Wife.
Watching The Act on Hulu, a 2019 limited series based on the true story of a woman who scammed a lot of money from people and agencies by claiming that her daughter had a variety of debilitating diseases. Patricia Arquette is excellent.
Also watching The Patient on Hulu (mentioned above). Steve Carell as a psychiatrist being held captive by his serial killer patient. He’s convincing in a dramatic role.
If I’m remembering correctly, when “The Good Wife” first aired there was something about the way it was described that made me think I wouldn’t like it. Possibly because it sounded like more of a soap opera type show than it really was.
I seem to remember thinking the same thing and there were minor soap opera elements (like the marital issues between the title character and her politician husband) but the majority of the show was great, particularly the legal stuff.
She was a great character; really weird but surprisingly effective as an attorney. And there were other weird but effective characters; like the investigator who went investigating with a toddler in a stroller.
Started watching Strong Girl Bong-Soon but the writing is just terrible (although Wikipedia informs me it’s ridiculously successful in Korea) and the main characters are so heavily made-up they look plastic. I’ve managed three episodes but I will likely give up on this.
Our local PBS station just started airing Sister Boniface. Female Father Brown? I’ve only seen one episode so far. But, of course, I recognized the local stately manor from several other shows.
Anybody else watch Devil in Ohio? It was entertaining enough to hold my attention for 8 episodes but there was a connection they forgot to make at the end that bugs me…
We are led to understand that the community needs to sacrifice the leader’s daughter so Satan will heal their crops and grant them prosperity. But we see the leader getting dialysis. I thought for sure that he wanted his daughter’s kidney. But then they try to burn her alive before attempting to harvest her organs. Was the dialysis machine just misdirection, or what?
