All right, where the heck is a default setting for enlarging font size in Chrome? I found out how to zoom it larger on a particular page (control+) but cannot find anywhere to set a default font size, which means every time I navigate to a new page I have to goose up the font size again – even if I’d been on that page before in the same browsing session. This is bloody frustrating.
I’ve been using Firefox on XP for years and had it just the way I wanted it. Starting up a new computer with Windows 7, I browsed at first with the latest version of IE that came with it, and found that not only was it easy to enlarge font size, but that it stayed enlarged even when I navigated away and then back to whatever page I’d set the size for.
This evening, though, I decided to take Google Chrome out for a spin. So far I am not impressed, and the font size thing is sufficiently annoying that I’m tempted to uninstall it. Is there some sort of easy fix I’m missing?
Click the wrench/spanner icon. Click options. Click Under the Bonnet (Or Under the Hood). Scroll down. Click change font and language settings. Everything you need should be there.
Google Chrome has plans to implement proper zoom memory in a future version: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=32a8d83bd71bc1a8&hl=en
(Default Zoom is not the same as Default Font Size)
You can enlarge the font size on the fly by holding down the CTRL key and moving the wheel on your mouse.
The OP specified that he is aware of how to change the zoom on the fly, but is wanting the browser to remember his setting, which it doesn’t currently.
Bingo. I can enlarge the fonts with a few mouse clicks (more than it takes in IE 8, by the way), but I have to do it for every frikkin website! Whereas when I goose up IE 8 to 150% on one page, it stays there for every page until the entire browsing session is over. Control plus scrolling wheel works too, but again, it has to be done every time I go to a new website, and my mouse’s wheel is sensitive enough that it’s easy to overshoot and have to wheel back down a bit – more small but unneeded annoyance.
I did go into Under the Hood and changed the default font size settings. Guess what? IT MADE NO GODDAMN DIFFERENCE!!!
I’ve avoided IE for years, ever since discovering the joys of Firefox (thanks, SDMB, for turning me on to it!), but IE 8 is pretty nifty. The more I explore it, the more I like it. Chrome may be faster (though I’m not seeing that on my shiny new Windows 7 computer) but that speed appears to come at the expense of a lot of useful tools in a choice of toolbars.
Maybe I should just toss Chrome entirely and see whether Firefox plays well with Win7.
