HOWEVER, in the context of being said by a British person, what Sevencl said was reasonable and not stupid (disclaimer, disclaimer, if it had been said within the UK, to a UK audience, etc etc, blah blah blah). In the UK, the bill you are presented with is calculated to include your servers wages, so if you leave any extra for them/the cook/whoever, it’s an act of sheer generosity, not an unwritten obligation. So yeah, if you were skint as a result of taxes going up, you’d be less likely to give money away where you don’t strictly need to.
S/he operates it suspiciously well too, good grammar - that rules out some of the more “playful” internet folk I know from Glasgow
