While this whole cookies biznis makes signing on and posting rather simple, it seems to negate our ability to post under different names.
This of course is a problem.
Are there any solutions before the husband of this team posts something ludicrous under the Wife’s username?
Help here would be hat!
All ya gotta do is make sure the moderators know what you’re doing. Send TubaDiva an e-mail (that’s tubadiva@aol.com), that’s the quickest and easiest thing to do.
We’re not ALL totally crazy, it just seems that way sometimes.
Ah, drank some coffee and more light dawns. Are you talking about logging in and logging off? To change users, log in and log off. It’s at the bottom right-hand corner of the main Forums page (where it lists all the forums).
Dylan ! I’m so glad to see you ! If you’re the right Dylan that is. If not , well nice to see ya anyway. Duck Duck Goose is right, sending an email to TubaDiva will help avoid a problem.
If boo-boo’s happen (and they do) just let the moderators know. I have posted as LIONsob a couple of times. ::sigh:: It happens.
We have no problem with it; quite a few people share computers and/or phone lines, it’s not a deal.
However, each of you must be careful to sign out at the end of your SDMB session, or the other person will be logged in as you. That can lead to some really confusing postings.
So sign in when you start (go to the front page, put in your name and password, hit the LOGIN button) and sign out when you’re done (go to the front page, hit the “Log Out?” hyperlink), and it’ll all work just fine. If you get in the habit, it won’t ever be a deal.
Oh, you each need a separate email address, though; the system won’t take two names with the same email.
Please let me know what I can do to help you with this situation.

I would try loading another browser on the computer. One for each person. Haven’t tried it with cookies, though. But IE remembers the handle & password combos.
I like the double name idea: HarrySue for example and then just sign your name underneath.
Harry
Or
Sue
That would be cool, and we’ve had that before.
Ref: Crick and Watson.

There’s an option in your profile where you can make it so you have to type in your screen name every time you post. Since I use shared and/or public computers a lot, I finally figured this out, and it helps.
Which reminds me, what ever happened to Crick and Watson anyways? I think he/she/it/they left just as I started. Can’t remember details, but I seem to have a positive impression in my mind.
I put a link to the logout page on my launch tray, so I can exit without fumbling back to the main menu bottom.

Haven’t seen Watson around for a while. Spent a fruitless 10 minutes wrassling with Search just now, looking for him, gave up and slunk back to my lair. Tuba, you keep telling us it works, and it keeps not working. [lonely coyote howl of misery]
Still, it could be worse. The AP Wire has the suckiest Search function I have ever seen. You KNOW the story’s there, but it keeps not finding it.
I decided to go look up Crick&Watson since people miss them so.
Since the username starts with Crick, I went to the search screen, typed in “Crick” in the screen name field, choose “match partial”, and voilà: tons of posts!
Doing that, I saw that the screen name is actually “Crick&Watson”. So I said to myself: what if I went back to the search screen, put in screen name “Crick&Watson” and used “Match Exact”? Alas, that was not meant to be, the search engine didn’t find anything (I wouldn’t be too surprised to find out that the “&” character is treated as a special character by the search engine.")
Tip for the day: “match partial” can be a boon if the “match exact” returns no “hits” (thank you UncleBeer).
Apparently the search engine dislikes punctuation of any sort and simply rejects the search.
I’m sorry it’s so picky.

PS Crick is no longer with us. Watson will come back to the board when he gets a computer that can handle vB. I hope it’s soon, I miss him.
thanks one and all…
we have corrected the problem…and we have takeoff!!!
oh, and TubaDiva, my SO registered as Deut the first time, and it didn’t ‘take’…so he registered again as Dewt…
he will only be using Dewt…if you would, perchance care to delete Deut…don’t want the poor soul to get in trouble…hehehe…
Dylan
Thanks for the note, will take care of the duplicate.
All best, and welcome!

And, to elucidate people on the location of Crick & Watson-
After an unfortunate incident in which Crick and Watson seperated (details weren’t given, and I didn’t think it prudent to pry), Crick continued to post under a new name. Unfortunately, when the board went through the upgrade to vbb, his software ended up incompatible with this system. So he can read the board (and often does), but he can’t post.
You’ve got it backwards; Crick is gone.
Well, Watson’s not here much either, these days; his computer goes boom when he tries to access the SDMB.
Watson’s computer can’t currently handle the new board software; that’s what happens when you have your heart set on the Barbie PC. (Just kidding, dear heart, just a joke.)
Anyway, he swears he’ll be back soonest.I sure hope so.
