Replace Firefly with Star Wars. They did a whole episode where the dude was trying to figure out if the girl he had been dating was “The One”. So he made her sit through a movie of it (She had never seen Star Wars before). Much to his disappointment; she didn’t really care for the show.
I still claim that in itself should have been his warning light.
I honestly don’t think I could have a long-term intimate relationship (friendship or partnership) with someone who didn’t at least have SOME prior knowledge and interest in the things I find personally important and fascinating.
That said, I think the song is hilarious. I saw it Wednesday when a friend introduced it during our group tv night.
There’s no excuse not to. It’s available for instant streaming, and they only made one season. You can practically watch it all in one sitting. (and then of course there’s the movie Serenity which ties up the loose ends, but don’t watch that until you’ve watched all of Firefly. You’ll appreciate it much more)
I remember Stella watching SW, but lied about it and said she liked it, then ended up leaving Ted at the altar (ol’ Teddy boy dodged a bullet there!). Was there another?
He pulls out Serenity during their weekend movie marathon and she asks if they really have to watch it. I’m guessing that plus his statement about Wash means she’s seen it and loathes it.
You’re right - Ted didn’t find out that Stella didn’t like SW until some time after being left at the altar - Marshall told him, and when Ted was doubtful, Marshall suggested that Ted “Search your feeling - you know it to be true”
