Must be another joke that needs to be explained.
Or doesn’t, because it’ll probably still make no fucking sense and certainly won’t be funny.

He’s not telling “Obama’s a Musselman” jokes. He’s telling “Obama is revered like a deity on these boards” jokes. I mean, he could be telling the other, too, but this lefty does find it funny - Obama is revered around here, we all keep stepping in it.
Revered like a prophet.
Analogy: He’s an atheist in a theocracy. Replace atheist with “non-Obama-supporter” and theocracy with “board overwhelmed with Obama supporters,” throw in a hefty dash of Muslim implication, and that’s the ‘joke.’
Not that I disagree – I think the Obama love is getting overwhelming myself, and I’m frequently reminded of Colbert’s “Great president, or the greatest president?” quote. But the Muslim stuff is really tiresome and nasty. I’d call it stupid, but I think Shodan knows exactly what he’s doing.
I think the question is, why a muslim reference rather than a Christian one (both you and Obama being Western types, I mean)
Thank you, sorry, that is more correct. I’m tempted to make a profit/prophet joke here but I’ll leave it.
That isn’t very funny - because Obama isn’t a Muslim.
This, on the other hand, is fucking hilarious.
Can you see why there’s a difference?
Dudn’t matter. So long as he tells jokes in which he just happens to mention the theme of Obama’s jihadist tendencies, the jokes don’t need to be too funny.
“Why did Obama cross the road?”
“To get to the mosque on the other side.”
That isn’t funny, either, and doesn’t depend on the Muslim angle for its incredibly lame attempt at humor, but as long as that angle’s in there, he’s going to tell such sucky jokes.
I think the perception of Obama adulation is exaggerated. Nobody thinks he’s a savior, they’re just happy to have someone that they like for once. For those righties who are really nauseated about it, now you know how your Reagan worship looks.
He didn’t. He swept both hands out from his sides, levitated into the air as the sun shined upon him, and earth rotated underneath him.
Heh! The “I can see your house” and “Hung like this” ones will never be stale.
Yeah, it’s not really a discourse I’d promote here on the SDMB, personally. Makes for a lot of acrimony.
I hear there’s one in the middle of Rome, somewhere.
Because you’re partisan.
You know and I know that’s not why it’s funny, but it won’t matter. And if you’re not careful you’ll have Mr. Moto chewing you out for laughing about an honored and decorated POW’s injuries.
As several posters have said, Shodan’s original joke was spot on. The Obamamessiah crowd here DOES tend to revere Obama in much the same way Muslims revere Mohamed (or at least they post that way). The problem is that, no mater how apropos the joke was, because of the “Obama is a Muslim” garbage that has been widely circulated, it’s not immediately clear that the joke wasn’t another dig at Obama in that vein but rather a dig at his more fervent supporters for their fawning adoration of the man.
Christian theocrats are a dime a dozen, though.
Hilarious.
Who knew that Shodan was a stand-up philosopher?
Only in a very general sense. Per the Lateran Treaty, all secular laws mirror Italy’s are handled by the Italian courts.
No one ends up in a Catholic Court for robbery.
Thanks, Anaamika, but explaining it doesn’t always help.
It’s perfectly natural - one of the clear marks of being an extremist is they cannot stand to be laughed at.
Because you can’t riff off Obama being accused of being a Christian - it doesn’t resonate. If I could have worked out a Reverend Wright joke, maybe that would have.
But yeah, part of the joke is that Obama was accused of being a Muslim. So you have to use that, not something else, or it doesn’t make sense.
Examine, if you like, the two Obama/McCain jokes I made earlier. I had to change them - McCain flying back from Mecca isn’t funny, but flying back from Hanoi is. Because he was a POW in Viet Nam. Obama flying back from Hanoi isn’t funny either - he has never been there, nor accused of being Viet Cong.
Plus, as Bosstone mentions, you are spring-loaded to find jokes about McCain funny, and refuse to accept that jokes about Obama can also be.
It’s both. Remember the riots over the Muhammed cartoons a while ago? There’s another group of folks who refuse to accept any attitude towards Muhammed other than worshipful adoration.
Do you think there might be a group on the SDMB with a similar attitude? And that there might be amusement in tweaking them?
Regards,
Shodan
No such cult exists, number one, but even if it did, that wasn’t the joke. The joke was “Osama Hussein is teh MUSLIM!!!111ONE lol.” I know it. You know it. The people at home know it. Let’s drop the pretense.
They also work better if you’re not perpetuating an ignorant and bigoted theme meant to appeal to the irrational fears and prejudices of ignorant hillbillies by morally bankrupt lying sacks of shit who know god damn good and well that he’s not Muslim but still like to use insinuations like Cavuto marks, throw-away references to assassinations, and “accidental” slips of the tongue to keep the “Osama (woops) Obama is a Muslim” pan on a slow simmer on the back burner.
