The key to humor is: It’s funny because it’s true.

On the Daily Show, they did a piece on Obama backing off his promise to use public financing. John: “Obama is on tape as saying he will use public funds. Why the change in position?” Correspondent: “John, we all say things we don’t mean just before we get rich!” It’s a slam on Obama (a mild one, granted), it’s true, and it’s a damn sight funnier than any Obama-is-a-Muslim crack.

I guess you and I have a different sense of humor. In fact, I’m not even sure I get that joke. He’s supposed to be “rich” now that he’s getting all those contributions? But that’s not really true, since he’s been the high money raiser for a long time now.

I’m glad you have a sense of humour - I just noticed you included yourself in that statement, so my post in that other thread may come across (heh!) as an attempted personal insult - didn’t mean it as one (NotThatThere’sAnythingWrongWithBeingGay, of course). I just hate seeing straight lines (heh!) get wasted, that’s all.

I have no problem laughing at myself, but I do have a problem with other people that cannot occaisonally engage in acts of self-deprecation.

I don’t find jokes about McCain’s age funny (so far - I’m sure a good one would get a chuckle).

Some of the things younger than John McCain are worth a chuckle or two.

Especially when you realize they include Mt. Rushmore, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Lincoln Tunnel, Spam (the alleged food, not the email), Scrabble, the PB&J sandwich, penicillin, LSD, Bugs Bunny, duct tape, the ballpoint pen, the six-pack, the LP record, and a host of other things that we basically think of as having been around since practically the beginning of civilization as we know it.
