You answered your own question. He does it because it’s mildly annoying. He believes a bunch of insane RW conspiracy theory nonsense, so he’s pissed all the time. You’d be pissed too if you thought that Obama was willingly destroying the country or stealing guns or whatever. So he throws in a snarky bit of nonsense at the end of his posts because he wants to tweak some noses.
I blame it on Bush.
It’s a reference to one of our beloved dopers that constantly takes the line of “Why are you fighting? Can’t we all just get along?” Everybody should just accept everything, or at least take it to messages. He’s the same guy that said that mean messages in the pit will shave months off of another posters life.

That said, and getting back to my OP, I seriously want to know why Shodan does this. It’s a simple question, and probably been asked before, but fuck it: Why? Why does he do it?

Well, he was an angry asshole before Obama was in charge. He was pissed at liberals during the Bush administration.
Conservatism has been undercut with nonsense beliefs about surrendering autonomy to the UN, or whatever for a long time now. And this board is left-leaning, so he’d have plenty of cause to lash out here.

Heh. Neither “regards” nor the notion of icons bothers me, but now I’m curious if there are people who petition for icons and rail against signatures. They both just add personalization to a message and, if anything, the signatures do it in less cutesy fashion.
I don’t mind the regards thing. Way I figure it, if I’m in a thread with some douche bag who posts “regards”, then I’m looking pretty good by comparison.

I too have always been curious why a person with such an obvious loathing for what seems like most of the members of this board would express his ‘regards’ anyway. As others have said, it seems to be simply because he knows it does annoy people; bonus if most of those people happen to be among the many posters he dislikes.
Which of course is wrong and bad. Certainly you’d never catch ME expressing insincere sentiments toward my fellow posters.
I do have that effect on women.
