My opinion on the matter doesn’t really have anything to do with Doper personalities or politics. I think that mtgman’s “Enjoy, Stephen” signoff is at least as idiotic and attention-seeking as Shodan’s “Regards” signoff, and yet i definitely have much more in common, politically etc., with the former than the latter. And while there’s something less stupid about a simple signature, the fact that i think XT is a good guy doesn’t stop me from thinking that his signoff is pointless.

I agree…it’s pointless. Just a habit I got into years ago. It’s silly, especially when I think about it and how often I use it (signing off on my emails, for instance). It’s REALLY silly when you consider that you can put in signatures both on this board AND in the emails…and I’m a freaking IT person, who knows you can do those things and I still don’t do it.
(plus, damned if I know how to use a single key stroke to get those ellipsis thingies…hell, I didn’t even know they were CALLED ellipsis’ before this)
We don’t get badges, only lanyards, but they’re still at the laminators.
(on the iPad, hit the “.?123” key, then press and hold on the period key. It’s also option-colon on the Mac. Fuck you PC users, I don’t know what the ASCII code is so don’t ask and live with your sub-par digital typesetting OSs.)
Post your Jeans. I wish to see them, so I may understand your sensual nature.
Also, I trained on a Mac. I don’t dislike them. I just don’t like them enough to pay the premium for them. If you prefer them, of course you should purchase one.
I just took issue with the idea that a PC is inferior. Maybe back in the '90s when you needed to load Postscript fonts, but nowadays, there is literally no difference other than OS file handling and cosmetic front-end stuff. <3
It’s a professional typesetting thing. It doesn’t matter on a messageboard. It does matter if you want to produce professionally typeset content that looks like someone who knew what they were doing made it.
