Incidentally I’m one of the liberals on the board and I’ve been called a racist on said board. Several times actually. Most recently it was because I said I thought Henry Louis Gates’s arrest was partly due to his being a horse’s ass (something I still believe even after reviewing the situation upon learning I was on the same side as people I can’t stand). It’s true that it’s a kneejerk reaction to some people to accuse you of an -ism when they want to draw the argument to a close, but… what can ya do?
Well, one thing of course is to learn that the SDMB is an excellent representative sample of people who post to the Straight Dope Message Board and that’s about it. I don’t judge all conservatives by Fox News and I don’t judge all liberals by PETA.
A. She’s family. I have family members that, if I’m around them for more than an hour, I have toothmarks on my tongue from biting it.
B. He’s going through a rather difficult personal period of time and he may be stuck with living there for a little while. Taking a stand on something like this when you have nowhere else to live may be admirable, but it’s not exactly smart.
OTOH, relying on your sister’s hospitality in your hour of need while simultaneously denouncing her behind her back as a racist is less than admirable, IMHO.
How do you know that I denounce her behind her back? We have, for years, denounced each other face to face and we continue to do so, not that it is any of your god damned business.
If people choose to comment, it would be better if they understood the situation before commenting. Personal relations between me and my sister are none of your god damned business and probably, hopefully, never will be. If you don’t get the difference between someone whining and someone telling you to fuck off, then I’ll spell it out for you: fuck off.
As I told “Hentor” at the time, I agree completely with his interpretation and his characterization of it is accurate now. I didn’t say it in the thread because we’d just gone back and forth over the fact that you don’t think gay folks are fit to be involved with the Boy Scouts and other displays of your support of inequality for gay people. It is true that I have called you a homophobe. I’ve seen nothing since then to change my view.
Now I’ve never thought Shodan was racist. Dumb as a box of hammers. Pig-headed and intolerant. But not racist.
I called you (completely correctly by the by) an attention whore, not a racist. But why would you let little things like facts and reality get into the way of your “PAY ATTENTION TO ME” thread.
There is a massive difference between social interaction and standing on the table taking off your clothes and screaming “Stop paying attention to Shodan, pay attention to ME!!!” I’ve been called names too you know!!! And if that’s not enough, I think all liberals are racists!!! And douchebags!!! Isn’t that outrageous!!! Call me on it!!! Tell me I’m wrong!!! Pay attention to me!!! Please???
