Not particularly, no. The bullet is a little bit bigger than a 9mm, a little bit smaller than a .45.
So, require training, licensing, and insurance to carry in public, and only allow carry of “street legal” firearms, e.g., no toting an AR-15 or sawed-off shotgun for self-defense? Even speaking as a certified gun nut, that doesn’t sound particularly objectionable to me – so long as nobody is exempt, especially not police officers. (After all, if we’re right about the safety habits and lawfulness of licensed concealed-carriers, that insurance ought to be pretty cheap!)
This particular kid seems like a good example of the fact that readily available guns can create catastrophes that otherwise likely would have never happened, despite the obvious fact that there are countless other possible ways to murder people. Teenagers are volatile and impulsive. Most, even including those who do or might kill, are not methodical, determined sociopaths who will find a way even if it’s death by a million paper cuts.
I don’t mean to in any way make light of what he did, because it was obviously horrible and most teens would never consider such a thing no matter how upset they were. The kid had serious issues for sure. But from everything I’ve read, he didn’t sound like a ticking time bomb who would do something like this later if not now. Had he not had easy access to an efficient killing machine, I think there’s a good chance he would have eventually outgrown his angst without anyone dying. Maybe he’d have spent some time in juvie for assault or something. But I doubt he’d have ended up killing at least 4 people (including himself. And yes, sadly there are unconfirmed but believable reports that the third girl has also died now).
That takes care of most of the items on GusNSpot’s list. I don’t see the Gerald Ford one debunked, though.
Was that Squeaky or the other one?
Well, Squeaky was 1975. But her gun failed to fire, so maybe the list means the other one. Per wiki, Sara Jane Moore was also 1975, just 17 days later. She only got one shot off. So neither “fired shots”.
Wiki lists Moore as a former Christian former WAC, who developed an obsession with Patricia Hurst and “turned to revolutionary politics in 1975.” Or the other way around. She was a bookkeeper who was an FBI informant at the time she attempted the assassination. She continued bookkeeping in prison.
Squeaky is listed as a follower of Manson who lived with the Aryan Brotherhood for awhile, after Charlie was put away. She was wearing a “nun-like” red robe and talking about the environment when she was arrested.
I’m guessing the list meant Moore. It’s hard to be sure, though.
You all mean I should not trust anything on line?
Well, I swan…
Sure is nice to have all this help in vetting my jokes & stuff. If you don’t see the joke, at least you are providing a service for others with the same lack in their make up. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
I’ll have a couple more when threads get to the necessary point to interject some different ideas… he he he
GusNSpot and everyone engaging with him – if you want to debate gun laws, go do it in Great Debates where such a discussion belongs. It’s off-topic in this thread.
