Short women/tall women: Do they have any special appeal?

so, ike, was she trying to get you to stop or having so much fun?

i’m 5’3" & like tall guys but didn’t always. when i was younger & my ego was more tender (yes, it used to be!) i was more comfortable w/ guys around 5’8"-5’10". the guy i’m seeing now is 6’5" & doesn’t seem to mind the difference at all.

it sort of seems i am now able to handle what was at one time too imposing. i believe it comes from the fact that my dad was tall (& my mom short).

Now that I think about it, all of my female friends are tall (5’7" or above). Male friends are all at least my height as well.

Truthfully, I don’t find short people appealing at all. I don’t go out of my way to stick my armpit in their faces on the subway or anything, but I’m really glad I’m tall.

Formerly unknown as “Melanie”

I’m the tallest of four females in my family at 5’2 1/2" and I love tall men even tho i get a kink in my neck.

We are, each of us angels with only one wing, and we can only fly by embracing one another

I’m about 5’4", and most of my friends range from 5’2" to 5’7". As for men, I prefer them a little on the short side, no more than 5’11", because gasp Tall People Scare Me.
I had a roomate in college who was 6’2", and I think that’s what did it. She was horrible - messy and kept her stuff on my part of the room, plus clumsy and loud with a heavy dose of bad personality to match. She got a basketball scholarship because she was tall, but she was so bad at it she never did the team any good. My pals called her The Sweaty Freak and consequently our living arrangements fell apart.
The person I’m about to stop seeing is about 6’1" however, so I may have gotten over my fear to a degree. I’m still intimidated by exceptionally tall people, at least a little bit.

Missdavis…

Boo!

I never knew I was short. Then I started dating my husband (6’2") and he nicknamed me “Shorty”. I thought he was calling me that because I’m short compared to him. One day I asked him about it and he said, “Nope. You’re just short.”

I’m short!?! My world was shattered. Then I remembered that my mother is three inches shorter than me. Ahhh. Dat’s bettah.

The hardness of the butter is directly proportional to the softness of the bread.

Actually everyone in our family is fairly tall…all the men are over 6’ and the women range from 5’7 to 5’10. I find that it bothers most men to have a woman taller than them…and I’ve had several ask me to wear flats so I don’t tower over them

Mully, that wasn’t nice! But I admit, I was asking for it.

I’ve never thought of myself as short at almost 5’7–pretty damn friggin close to it.
And then I had the hots for a guy who was 6’9
I’ve always gone out with guys who are over 6’, I usually(though not always) have the hots for tall boys, but he made me feel soooo small, he sat on a table and was still taller than me.
There was an article in the Toronto Star not too long ago about how females all over the world–culture didn’t matter, prefer tall men over short–it’s the whole issue about providing in a relationship, a subconscious attribute we look for.

But the study never said anything about whether men prefered tall women or short,
I’d be curious to see Kilgore’s reply–as to what he prefers, since I think he thought I was taller–I look that way in some pics

And yet I still never had a serious girlfriend in high school. Oh sure, there were the meaningless playful romps.

Of course I did end up married to a wonderful woman.

Height rocks!

I guess I’m tall for a woman, 5’10", but I’ve never really felt that tall. I’m just self-centered enough to consider myself the “norm”. It always surprises me when people mention that I’m tall.

In high school, I never dated anybody shorter than me. It just felt wrong, somehow. Then, in college, I met my husband, and he tricked me into falling in love with him before I noticed he was two inches shorter than me. It’s never really been an issue, except when our son was born. I was worried that he would take after my husband’s side, they are all extremely short (he is actually the tallest in his family). I hope that doesn’t sound too shallow, I was just concerned that it might be awkward for a boy to be shorter than his mother. Luckily, at the rate he’s growing he’ll be taller than both of us by the time he’s 10 (which is why I have to establish complete dominence now, before it’s too late :)).

I trust that response was meant as a joke, Eve. I am old enough to remember Billy Barty (and, for that matter, Michael Dunn) from the Sixties, and the guy Tina was with was rather swarthy, and looked “Mediterranean” (Italian, Greek, Turkish, or whatever).
Maybe Tina should have posed with Herve Villechaize. (The picture I saw was from about 1988.)

Height does matter to me, but not in a very predictive fashion. Short and tall and in-between women can all be attractive; their height doesn’t make or break their looks, but it will play a part, if you know what I mean. The tall ones are attractive in a different way than the short ones.

It’s funny, though, I have a weird stereotype about height and personality. I expect short women to be vivacious and gregrarious, and tall women to be elegant and mysterious. Don’t know why. It’s obviously not true very often, but I still always think it’s gonna be.

For a guy, I’m a little on the short side (approx. 5’7"), and I find women taller than me to be attractive. Unfortunately, women generally don’t go for guys who are shorter than they are. :frowning:

It’s a long way to heaven, but only three short steps to hell.

well, actually, string i know several women, beyond the ones who have posted here, who are tall & regularly date or are attracted to or married to shorter men. an absolutely stunning 6’ blonde of my acquaintence recently divorced from her 5’7" husband of about 5 yrs.

I suddenly recalled one of the first posts I read on the SDMB that made me laugh out loud…I think it was posted by Little Nemo; correct me if I’m wrong.
