Well, should I?
(Just want to say, i’ve had many Middle Eastern/Arabic online friends, this is the only freaky occurence.)
I’ve been talking to this guy online for awhile, he lives in the Mid East, we have normal conversations, him telling me about his life while I talk about mine. Nothing serious really, we just talk about culture and relationship differences, all in good humor. I would log on and get offline messages from him like “Hello friend!” and “Sorry I missed u friend”. Just another online buddy.
Tonight, I log on and this is what I get:
“just good wishes for 78.”
“just for u”
“just for u”
He is offline, so no explanation, no elaboration, I have no idea.
So I sit and think, what is this? I was born four years after 78… then I think OH it might mean the number of a day in a year. After some quick math in my head I Google March 20. The first link is Wikipedia, which tells me that March 20 is the 79th day. I quickly google March 19 annnnnnnd…
That was the night, in 2003, that George W. announced the invasion of Iraq.
My friend knows i’m anti-war, so either he’s yanking my chain or just being sardonic. When I googled it and got that back though, I wondered.
I mean, thats a symbolic date. I had never even thought about it.
If he was being sarcastic, that’s damn bitter sarcasm, seeing as he knows my position on the matter. On the other hand, I could be imagining the whole thing. What else could 78 mean?
