Showdown! Justice League of America vs. the X-Men

Good point about the dossiers… forget about them. I’ll just hope Mimic gets his act together before Flash does.

And associates don’t count, do they? The OP said members but nothing about friends and acquaintances.

(Thank you, Kythereia.)

(Any time!)

I threw in the Brotherhood for the X-Men’s side, and I guess I can allow the JSA in as well, but that’s strictly it…

Adding the JSA ends the fight easily. Even more than allowing Amazo.

Spectre was in the JSA.

The Wrath of God.

The X-types are doomed.

No need to have the Brotherhood. Magneto was part of the X-Men at one point, I believe, and he’s really the only member that’s worth having. Blob, Toad, Avalanche, Pyro, et al. aren’t worth it if allowing them allows the already heavily stacked JLA to get even more members.

Well the Silver Surfer is considered to be the fastest superhero in either universe (according to Wizzard).

I think Professor X is considered to be the greater telepath so I think he has the advantage then. Dark Phoenix would tip the scales though. Utterly amoral and powerful as all hell.

By the way, some of the fanboy nonsense spouted by the DC crowd reminds why they sell less comics than Marvel

And it should also be kept in mind that Santa Claus is a member of the JLA!

At least according to Plastic Man, in that one Christmas issue. So this information may be apocryphal.

But still…man! Even if there’s the slightest chance, do you want to be on the team that goes up against Santa Claus? He’s got magic powers, and super-speed, and he’s a saint. And even if you could manage to take him on, think of all the bad press! If the X-Men thought they were feared and hated up to now, wait 'til people find out they tried to beat up Santa Claus!

You know what bothers me about this thread, what is up with all the insanely powerful superheroes? Villians shouldn’t have a friggin chance. I still think you guys are giving Batman too much credit though. I can see him getting prepared and taking out a few of the lesser members. But no way does he trap Wolverine, he’d smell the Bats at 100 yards.

Santa’s dead, man. Lobo offed him years ago.

Hah! Nice try. Then who was that guy I saw at the mall the other day?

Another thing the JLA has against the X-Men’s telepaths is Wonder Woman’s lasso. While it’s not the pre-Crisis version that automatically made people follow her commands, it does seem to allow her to exert some measure of her not-inconsiderable will over people, and would almost definitely give Prof. X and Phoenix something to think about if she got it around them (which she would, since she moves way faster than any of the X-Men). Of course, if she got that close to Prof X, she could just as easily tip him over, so it might not be that big of a deal.

Of course, all of this is probably moot with Zatanna on the team. As shown in Identity Crisis, all she has to do to make someone forget something is to say it backwards. As long as she has time to get out “neM-X, tegrof uoy evah yna srewop,” the X-Men are pretty much fucked.

Also, would telepathy work on Dr. Fate, or does his helmet block stuff like that? I can’t remember.

It’s actually kind of fun to think about the zillion ways the JLA could take out the X-Men without breaking a sweat.

Hee!

Wrong, dufus, it was Jerkbox and Punk’nhead that whacked the fat man. They did it in the course of collecting a debt the jolly old elf owed Big Jack Satan.

A better idea that giving the X-Men the brotherhood may be to include the other X-teams. If we include not only the X-Men, but everyone who’s ever been in X-Factor, Generation X, X-Force, X-statix, Excalibur, the New Mutants, and whoever else there might be, they just might give the JLA a run for their money, although I think that it’ll still just end up as more people for Superman to hit.

My constant complaint with DC. I realize Marvel has some heroes that fall in the same category but it doesn’t seem as rampant in that universe as it does in DC’s.

Hmmmm… why not? All right, we’ll put the X-Men, X-Factor, Generation X, X-Force, X-statix, Excalibur, and the New Mutants against the JLA…

How are the odds looking now?

It all comes down to Profesor X and Dark Phoenix. I think he can take J’onn in the physchic war and Phoenix could take any individual member of the JLA but…

That’ll skip the scales the JLA’s way.

How the heck did Santa Claus join the JLA, anyways

I think that’s a little bit misleading. The Silver Surfer can fly through space really fast (although even then I’m not sure he’s faster than, say, a Green Lantern, as they seem to be able to galaxy-hop extremely quickly), but to my knowledge he never really demonstrates super-speed in the same way that, say, the Flash does. That is, he doesn’t seem to be able to dodge punches or run at super-speed (someone please correct me if I’m wrong, I’m no Surfer expert).

Actually, CandidGamera (I think) made a good point about Ion, who’s just as valid as Dark Phoenix as far as using characters go. From what we saw, he would be at least Dark Phoenix’s equal, and probably more powerful, since he had control over his powers and didn’t go nuts.

Are you sure? A lot of early SS I would qualify him as nuts, or at least extremely pychotic about his fate in life. In restrospect I’m not sure why I read him anyway I always found him depressing.

I was talking about Ion (Kyle Rayner when he gained essentially godlike powers), not the Surfer in that second part.

But on that point, I’d actually say you’re right in that the Surfer is just really depressing. More that than insane, I’d say.
