Shruggin' off the misery, still rootin' for the Rox

Okay, I’ve wallowed in all the misery I’m going to for one day. It’s almost noon after the first game of the 2007 World Series, and the only mention of the Rockies-Red Sox game last night is in the Pit.

First, the immediate reaction of my inner newspaper editor:
Sox rock, Rox suck.
I’m betting every layout editor in Colorado pencilled that one across the page, then deleted it for something less full of self-pity.

Second, this tidbit from our sports director: Only three teams in the history of the World Series have lost the opening game by 10 runs or more, and all three times those teams went on to win the Series. There’s hope.

Third, it’s all my fault. I didn’t wear my purple CR tie yesterday, opting instead for a necktie with the logo of the local junior college, because last night was the final home game of the volleyball team. They’re nationally ranked. They faced their arch-rival from the hated land of Nebraska. They lost. In three. Maybe the tie isn’t the answer.

Anyway, I’ll be on the sofa tonight, Coors in hand, sendin’ out the love to my Rockies. I don’t care what anybody says – they belong.
