Siam Sam, you wanna maybe dial it back a notch?

What, no love for pigeon eggs?
Didn’t you read that thread? There’s plenty of love for pigeon’s eggs from people wanting to cook 'em. Or anything else to keep 'em from hatching, too.

I’m not a spokesman for the anti-sam brigade. Honestly, I don’t care about the OP much at all anymore, but rather the apparent fact that one can’t harbor any negativity against another poster without being derided.

With that said, I’m out for a while.
It’s a valid opinion to say that one would appreciate more variety from a poster. Doesn’t mean he should post less about Thailand, but I know I personally would love to see other sides of his personality, not just see his name as the OP and automatically anticipate another factoid of the week about how stupid farangs can be, or the latest sex story, as interesting as they are (and they seriously are).
I’m a big boy, and I can take a little constructive criticism. That can be good. This being the Pit, I’m just glad I didn’t get a whole new A-hole chewed into me and have to go take a shower like I feel I have to when I read some of the other Pits.

I’m a little guarded about revealing too much of myself on the Board, largely because of an unfavorable experience I had with a Belgian millionaire that happened while dabbling a little on a local board a few years ago. I thought he was a respectable businessman, so we met up for drinks. Man, what a nut he turned out to be! I should have remained anonymous. And then you hear all sorts of Internet horror stories, and so I try to maintain a certain level of privacy. Unfortunately, that probably also limits the aspects of my personality I feel comfortable showing.

BTW: I sort of like kitty pics.
if I’m chapping one person enough to pit me (my first pit, yay!), then I must be chapping at least some others too.
Umm, no, you’re extrapolating a little too sensitively here. The overwhelming sentiment in the thread so far is that this is a wholly unmerited Pitting, and thus, you may safely ignore it–there are no lessons for you to take away here, because the vast majority of people here have no problem with your current posting style.

The few people who do, are quite capable of simply not opening your threads. And it’s not as if you’re spamming MPSIMS with dozens of threads so that truly meritorious threads are quickly bumped off Page 1–the few threads you do start are outnumbered greatly by the hordes of other MPSIMS threads.

No.
He doesn’t.
So what? So I find it slightly annoying. Anyone who thinks that reflects poorly on me can fuck off sideways. Just because Sam is a well-liked, nice, respected member of the dope shouldn’t mean one can’t have a personal and subjective opinion about him that is even slightly negative, the key here being personal and subjective.
Well, I like your opinions myself.
I’m on the other side of the fence here. I like reading his threads. Through them I have learned a lot about places and cultures that I probably never get to visit in person.
ditto

Siam Sam please don’t let this discourage you from updating the pigeon thread. That’s my favourite thread on the board right now.

We went through something similar three years ago, when Tuckerfan was the recipient of someone’s momentary lukewarm ireful feeling that he was starting too many threads in MPSIMS. Similarly, the vast majority of folks who weighed in, weighed in on his side, and charged the OP with unmerited Pitting.

Really, don’t take this to heart; it’s just a blip, not a life-shattering SDMB epiphany. If you truly were starting to piss people off, you’d have been told, ages ago, by the simple, incontrovertible fact of the way people responded to your threads. Posters who truly do swamp the boards annoyingly get told, upfront, much sooner than this, and in words of one syllable. The fact that people (a) post to your threads, and (b) do so civilly and constructively, instead of with snarky one-liners and “go away!” speaks volumes.

Also remember, that there is truly no way–NO way–you would EVER be able to please everybody on these boards. No matter what you do–post a kitten thread, not post a kitten thread–somebody’s going to be pissed off by it. Just relax, and be yourself, secure in the knowledge that far more people want to see your “News From The World Of Asia” threads than don’t.

Another vote for more Thai interest stories. As I get all the Filipino weeklies, and I’m the only non-Filipino in my household, maybe I should post some more Southeast Asian stories, just to give a slightly different perspective.

Though I think we can agree that should one ever start a kitten thread without kitten pictures, then that person can, should and will be castigated, strung up, shunned, mocked, pitted and anything else we can think of.

(Not that I think Sam would ever do such a thing)
And again with this. You people want more variety in thread topics? Write them yourselves. <snip>
Exactly. Take a chance - start a thread. It won’t hurt (much).

Do it! I’ve not been to the Philippines yet, but I have a British friend who goes there a fair bit. Has another Brit friend who runs some sort of motorcycle shop in Manila.

I don’t agree. I am sick unto death of kitty pics and want bird pics, reptiles, anything but kitty pics. :stuck_out_tongue:

The pigeon thread shall be updated. In fact, I can tell you now that tonight (it’s 1.30am here now) is the first night that the squabs have been left parentless. Little Pidgee has decided to spend the night elsewhere. She did seem a little restless last night. But the squabs will be safe until a parent returns in the morning. They’re getting big in size.

We haven’t had an unfair, cliquey, knobslobbering pile-on in a little while; we’re probably overdue - like thunderstorms building up after days and days of hot, humid weather.

It would be more of a Fil-Am perspective. I’ll have to take more notes. I’m still waiting for my first trip.  Can’t go during school season because no one (qualified) to take care of daughter. Can’t go during summer break because it’s “rainy season” (not my excuse). I can’t go alone, though my wife can for family emergencies.

One amusing point about all the Fil-Am papers (versus those from the Philippines) is their focus on Filipino celebrities. And by celebrities, I mean anyone who gets a 5 second cameo on a straight-to-DVD feature.
I’m more alarmed at the rate the members of the SDMB are eating their own
…because that’s totally what I’m doing. Boy, I really let him have it in the OP, didn’t I? Dragged that sumbitch through the coals! Expletives were flying like bodily fluids in a Thai whorehouse!

Wow. Awesome observation! I hadn’t thought of that, but you’re right!!!

My objection was that too many threads from a single member push other people’s contributions off the front page into no-man’s-land. Try and keep up here, guys.
Not necessarily… have you seen some of the shit neutron bitches about?
This post has my full support and approval. Good one! (Seriously. It made me chuckle, anyway.)

And I think you may be right, and so between times of trying to keep my bodily fluids from spattering Thai whorehouses, I’m going to try to space them out a little more. Not post less, because I have a lot of fun here, and if I thought I was truly a problem I’d bow out altogether, but I’ll not cram them in together so closely.

Oh, for fuck’s sake. Go to the second page of MPSIMS. If you haven’t figured out how to look at the second page of a forum, you may not be ready for message board participation.
