A Caribbean vacation would be very nice indeed! You springing for it?
I shall look forward to daintily sipping on a beer or two with Mr. Taters. Why sip, of course! We are refined, sophisticated gentlemen.
Or maybe we’ll have a chugging contest. We’ll just see what happens.
Puggy I didn’t see the tree fall down, nor did I hear it go boom. It was more like, what’s that in the driveway? Looks like some limbs blew down. I better go investigate. Holy S**t! A tree fell down! It’s a water oak and they have shallow root systems. I’m guessing all the rain we’ve had has just saturated the ground to the point that the smaller ones are losing their deeper root systems and falling down. That means we could have more.
I am cranky this week too. I ate 1/2 dozen home-made chocolate chip cookies last night. Then I stomped on the rest and threw them out. I’m just really edgy - don’t know why.
Maybe it’s because I know I’m going on vacation Thursday, and I want it to be Thursday already. Maybe it’s because I’m in a rut. Maybe it’s both.
I’m tired.
Susan
We’re only going to be there 3 days. But I’m easily amused too, and I might just have to talk BSMF into a Hoover Dam trip so I can get onea them t-shirts.
Soon as I win the lotto!
Bumba? You there? I assume your box hasn’t arrived yet, scout.
The whole house smells like warm chai soap. Start selling it online! It’s amazing!
Nope, I haven’t gotten anything yet. I’m breathless with anticipation, though.
Bumba, I sent you an email a couple of days ago - did you get it? I seem to recall you said your email was occasionally wonky. I wouldn’t want you to think I wasn’t responding to your message.
It’s all grey and cold and yuck outside, and the forecast is for temps to drop into the 30s for a few nights this week! So, which of you cheeselogs stole spring?? Yesterday, it was all sunny and shirtsleeves, today I’m bundled in fleece. I came home thinking my furnace had died - turned out someone who shall remain nameless turned the thermostat all the way down so the heater didn’t come one. But it’s warming up, slowly…
Re: Vegas and the Hoover Dam
In case everyone’s not aware of it (which the people who recommended that I go there weren’t), visitors can no longer actually go IN the Hoover Dam. Everyone I talked to pre-trip said “oh, it’s so cool, you get to go inside and everything.” And then I get there and it’s all security and you can watch a movie of the inside of the dam and that’s it. I mean it’s still cool to look over the side and see how far down it is. And it’s cool to walk over the border into AZ and into a different time zone. But it’s not AS cool as it used to be. Just fyi.
Also, I *loved *Vegas. I totally wasn’t expecting to. The whole image you get of Vegas is just about the complete opposite of who I am. I don’t gamble and I don’t drink and I don’t “party” per se and I don’t have enough money to shop at all the cool stores there. But I absolutely had a blast and CAN’T WAIT to go back again this year (annual company convention). Vegas is awesome.
Go to the Bellagio. The fountains are the best. And the gardens inside are great. And I heard (although didn’t (yet) get to try for myself) that the buffet there is really good. Have fun! I love Vegas!
The whole house? What have you been doing with it?
I’m glad you liked it Lissla. No package from Canada for me yet either.
Yes, FCM, I got the e-mail, but, umm, I was kidnapped by Romanian gypsies and couldn’t reply. Or else I was just really busy. Sorry.
I think I’ll go with the gypsies excuse.
Got yours too Taters. I will reply to you both shortly. I promise.
No biggie, Bumba - I just wanted to make sure you got your answer. So that’s cool! I know there are probably one or two things in your life more important that I am… <sniff sniff>
Thanks, LifeOnWry That’s helpful! One of my problems has been that I’m not particularly good at remembering what plants look like – so now I get pick-a-tures AND names AND deer-resistant, all in one place.
I guess I keep trying to make things logical. Daffodils, but not tulips? What about crocuses (crocusii?). Definitely no rabbits…
I hadda work today without reading the Dope – so I’ll catch up after I figure out what’s for dinner. I wonder what’s for dinner?
I’m a bachelor tonight. ACBG has a meeting. Tomorrow I get to practice being really, really good to make up for my little indiscretion this past weekend.
I’m listening to a CD of music from my niece’s wedding, etc. Actually it’s a wedding favor that was at my place setting. It’s some of their favorite music. I might get all misty eyed. I guess CD’s are what replaces Jordan Almonds as the 21st century wedding favor. I’m sure I won’t know even half of the songs but still it’s cool that it’s their “songs.” Hmmmm… ya know I got a feeling my mother will think it’s kinda strange. I can see her out in her flower garden with her little portable CD player and headphones listening to it now.
Oh, I know there’s one thing I didn’t tell y’all about the wedding. I escorted my mother into the dinner/dance/party thingy, got her to her table, pulled out her chair and seated her without trippin’ or nuttin’. I know y’all are proud of me for that.
swampy, we are all greatly relieved that you were able to escort Mom without injury or (presumably) embarrassment to her. Also, thank you for the clarification on your enjoyment of the open bar. I am a little slow on the uptake as regards bars and did not want to draw a false conclusion from your 5,346 (adjusted for inflation) mentions of the open bar.
I must admit that I am greatly distressed this evening. I walked past the gnome and fireplug house up the street and found: no gnome!!! It appears that the gnome has been replaced or displaced by a goose. As I am not personally acquainted with these neighbors, I did not investigate their backyard to see if the gnome has been relocated. Perhaps Mrs. Neighbor has had a chat with Mrs. DeDay about gnome placement? I sense a vast conspiracy.
In other signs of spring news: I have asparagus! I have about 8 spears peeking out of the ground. Looks like I should be able to harvest them in a couple days - yay!
I’m exhausted. Perhaps I need a second nap this evening.

gardentraveler asparagus… MMMMMMMMM! Ass-pur-aaa-guz is one of my favorite veggies! I predict Hollandaise sauce in your immediate future. I also like it steamed with a little lemon and butter. And marinated with oil and vinegar. It’s not quite as good as an open bar, but Ass-pur-aaa-guz rates right up there in the veggie world!
Maybe the gnomes are converging in a plot to take over the world! I think investigation is in order.
The CD was really good. Eclectic is the best way to describe it. Everything from Elvis to Abba. She’s definitely my niece.
Make sure you schedule a urine test for the day after you eat your asparagus…
The first round of asparagus will probably be steamed with butter and lemon. After that I’ll get creative.
And VunderBob: thanks for the helpful suggestion. I’m sure the results would ummmm…impress someone.

Sorry but I’m going to bring down the MMP.
I’ve had a crappy day.
I caught some crud from my sister and have been coughing up my lungs and running a slight fever today and it just started so I will probably feel worse tomorrow.
Then one of our clinic cats just dropped dead from cardiomyopathy. They did a necropsy to confirm why he died. He acted perfectly healthy, he was a young cat and I had just seen him an hour before and he seemed fine. He was put in one of the exam rooms to exercise while we were closed so possibly he overdid it.
I hate feline cardiomyopathy. Sometimes the only way you know a cat has it is when it suddenly drops dead. It’s not something that shows up in routine exams and blood work. Even if we did routine x-rays and ECG’s chances are we still wouldn’t have seen anything unless we did an ultrasound, which is not a routine procedure.
I had a personal pet cat die of cardiomyopathy. She was ten and she started showing signs of a problem, then she threw an aortic embolism which paralyzed her and she had to be put to sleep. I at least had some warning with her and I got to say goodbye. I’ve seen so many young cats come in to the clinic that had just dropped dead and we know that it is most likely cardiomyopathy that caused their deaths. I even witnessed a young cat die that had come in for routine vaccinations. We hadn’t even touched him and he keeled over, we couldn’t revive him. This has always been a fear of mine that it might happen to another one of my cats but with no warning or time to say goodbye. This cat was like one of my extended pet family. He was very sweet and friendly to everyone.

Bar-bell-queued. Y’wanna bbq ass-per-grass. Maybe rubbed with a bit of olive oil, but mmmMMMmmmm! asparagus on the grill is WONderful.
Dinner? Turned out to be frozen (and baked) spicy chicken pizza and a TGS (tossed green salad; blame my dad for the acronyminization of YAW (yet another word)). Brain too tired to do anything more creative dinner-ish-ly.
Rue, while we’re not going to plant any rabbits, will it suffice that the very first porch ornament was a (fake) stone bunny?
(don’t wanna offend the MMP guy, after all!)
Well dang, Wile E! I swear your post wasn’t there when I previewed.
I’m sorry to hear about your furry friend. And so is Hermione-kitty, who just jumped into my lap and reminded me that it’s time to cuddle kitties.
