Can a wireless router also accept a non-wireless ethernet connection? The idea is for two computers in the home to be connected - the one close to the wireless router connected with a physical ethernet cable, and then the computer upstairs to have a wireless PCI network card installed to connect to the wireless router.

yes, my Linksys wireless router has 4 ethernet ports on the back for wired connections. I currently have my printer plugged into one. Ah wireless printing rules.
Almost every wireless router has some ethernet ports to connect into - the Netgear one that I am using has 4 ethernet ports in the back (which I have one computer plugged into) and 3 other machines connecting in wirelessly from around the house.
On the off chance you want to have a ‘wired’ network upstairs as well. You can buy a thing called a wireless ethernet bridge. Connect that up to a switcher and you have a nice wireless to RJ45 converter.
