Simpsons/Music question

Okay, so in the episode where the nuclear power plant workers are on strike, Lisa brings a guitar and is playing while the guys picket. As she finishes a song, Lenny comes up to her and says, “Now play classical gas!” Or something like that. Then she plays a pretty catchy tune, one that I’ve heard a couple of times since then on classic rock radio, but I have no idea what it is. Anyone know what song it is and who plays it?

Classical Gas?

By Mason Williams

The joke is, I suppose, that in that episode Lisa just suddenly knew how to play the guitar, and while up until there it was just basic chords, here she launches into a very difficult song…

Snpp.com has Lisa’s protest song in the category of “original song or parody”. I ran a couple of searches of combinations of lines from the song without result. In case it sparks someone’s memory, here are the lyrics, from episode 9F15:

  Come gather 'round children,
  It's high time ye learned,
  'Bout a hero named Homer
  And a devil named Burns.

  We'll march till we drop,
  The girls and the fellas,
  We'll fight till the death
  Or else fold like umbrellas.

  (later)

So we'll march day and night,
  By the big cooling tower,
  They have the plant,
  But we have the power

I always thought that was one of those John Tesh or Yanni ditties. It sure sounds like something they might do.

Thanks Matt.

Speaking of Lisa’s protest song, it seems like there were a few more verses to it, but I can’t be sure. I remember my sisters singing it incessantly, though.

evilhanz posted the entire lyrics. That’s what’s on my CD.
