In “Lisa the Greek” (Season 3, Episode 14), Lisa and Homer bet on football games and never lose. Homer acquires all this wealth and at one point he takes out his family to a fancy restaurant. He calls over the violin player and asks Lisa for a song to play. She says, “the Broken Neck Blues.” I really really liked the short bit that he plays and I tried looking for info on that song but the majority of the results on Google were for Simpsons Trivia: What is Lisa’s favorite song…
Anyone know of the original artist?
I suspect it was a “Simpsons” original with a cliched Perfect Blues Song Title.
More like an almost perfect but slightly over the top blues title. It’s definitely a Simpsons original. In the intervening years, it does look like a few bands have borrowed the title.
Drag, I was hoping I’d be able to get my hands on the full song. Would anyone be willing to decipher the few notes that are played in the episode? I have no musical talent what so ever…
It’s also a pun: see, violins have necks, and if your neck is broken, you can’t actually play the song, and thus you have the blues. It’s funny on so many levels, to coin a phrase.
I’ve aways seen it as a pun on “bottleneck blues”, where a bottle neck is used as a sort of slider…
