Sims2 is Here! [unboxed Spoilers!]

You’ll need about $189 (we have the Atlantis Pro version, which uses a Zalman heatpipe cooler instead of a fan - $279).

Is it related to the graphics card, or the charisma of the person doing the inviting? My copy only arrived this past weekend, so I still have a lot of experimenting to do.

It’s definitely related to the computer’s abilities; if you ever had an 11 person party in the original game, you know how much so many people milling about could slow down your system. Maxis worked around this for 2 by detecting the max amount of people it felt an individual system could handle. Since all of my specs are pretty high, it’s highly likely that my graphics card is the culprit.

By the way, one of my Sims was tooling around in the yard (I wasn’t really paying much attention to him because he was in a great mood). Out of nowhere, Mortimer comes onto the lot, follows my Sim into the house and starts yelling at him, and shoves him, then leaves again. I was flabbergasted as to why that had happened. Then a while later, I caught the same Sim looking through the telescope, only it wasn’t pointed at the sky. Suddenly, he gasps, and his thought bubble shows Mortimer! Turns out he was spying on the old man, who once again came over and gave him a piece of his mind (and a shove). I thought that was pretty hilarious.

I had one of my Sims electrocuted when trying to fix the Stereo. Ended up with the traditional “Wile E. Coyote” black/singed look. Immediately afterwards, her ride for work showed up, so she did her “Wonder Woman” twirl and changed into her work outfit. However, she was now sporting purple “rays” of electricity coming from her body. Those have remained with her since then, and it’s been probably 7 Sim days at least. She’s showered, she’s bathed, she’s gone swimming, she’s used the hot tub, she’s changed her outfits. Nothing has done anything. She even died (and was saved from death). Still, she has the electric rays coming from her body.

The only thing I can think of is that I have aging set to OFF.

Will those purple rays be with her forever, or is there a way to make them go away?

Lips, try a few things…

  1. Exit the game completely and go back in. If that doesn’t work,
  2. Turn aging on for just a bit. Again try exiting and going back. If that doesn’t work,
  3. Move her out of the house and then back in. If that doesn’t work, I’m afraid you’re SOL

A friend of mine was telling me that his Sim died over the weekend, while on the job! He was a police officer, one of the “chance card” dialogs came up, and apparently he’d made the wrong choice, because it said the Sim was shot and killed. With no possibility for intervention!

I think I’m going to choose “ignore” for those chance cards from now on. It’s just a flip of the coin which one you pick anyway, and the benefits never seem to outweigh the penalties. I much prefer the random phone calls from the original game.

Just remembered a problem that I had that I wanted to ask about… I invited the Headmaster over for dinner to get my youngest Sim in private school. The tour went great, and the schmoozing decent, and the meal would have been a perfect clincher. But the idiot went and sat on the swingset and wouldn’t get off for the longest time, despite me having my Sims try to talk to him, etc. Then, when he finally did get off, the option to Entertain > Call for Dinner simply disappeared, even though dinner was ready and waiting. So he decided we weren’t good enough. Which of course, gave my fortune Sim a massive aspiration downer. I would have exited without saving, except I’d already played through about a game week, with two kids aging successfully… Grrr.

Any ideas why the option went away? Probably just a bug, I guess.

Well, I save often, so I do go back if one goes too wrong, So far the worst was a 2 level demotion, but because my sim did not fear it, was no big deal, what with the working what would have been days off and the promotion bonuses, he will end up with more cash. Further more there is a second chance to gain the top of career +15,000 apiration point award.

The first time he got to the top level was a chance card too.

One of Kelly’s sims won 75,000 simoleons on a chance card. I say worth the risk generally, but save often.

That’s not good!
The Guide claims that’s the one thing they wouldn’t do! :frowning:
So where’s the body?
Did he just never come home? If so that really sucks!
Can’t even give them a proper burial.

On another sad note, I married Mortimer to a lovely young money grubbing thing named Nabiki.
Nabiki became preggers by Morty and had twins; a boy and a girl.
Now the sad part - Mortimer kicked the bucket ON the twins birthday, in the middle of the party.
Cassandra went crazy and out came the flour sack baby.
Nabiki lost it and was panhandling in the front yard for a few hours.
The twins just cried and cried. :frowning:

The only good parts were when Mortimer tried to fight Death for his hour glass, and of course the inheritance.
I’m still waiting on someone to be able to teleport. Is it Yoga or Meditation that does it?

Meditation. I think you have to have a certain level of something before teleport becomes available - maybe an even higher logic score than 3. I just read about it in the guide last night, but damned if I can remember at the moment.

His visit only lasts a set amount of time, like parties, so if there’s not enough time left for him to eat, maybe the option won’t come up anymore.

But don’t listen to me. He wouldn’t take my kid, either!!

You know, I hadn’t thought of that; because of the swingset fiasco, time was definitely running low. That was probably the issue.

What’s annoying is, the other two kids are already in private school. It’d be nice if any other kids born afterwards were automatically enrolled in private school, as long as one other sibling is already (and currently) there, or something similar.

No clue, but I feel your pain.
I scored 80/90 and STILL didn’t get in!
Do you have to beat the 90 score?
I thought the last time I did it, I just got close.
Every thing was going great and then when time had run out he just left saying that he didn’ think we were the type of people who should be attending his school.

Yeah, but look where legacy admissions have gotten us in real life  .

Damn, woman, you take your Sims playing seriously! (But then, I shouldn’t talk, I’m planning on subbing to a friend’s pay site…just for stuff for the Sims).

:stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t see this mentioned, so I thought I would. The Sims 2 sells at record-setting pace. The article also briefly (all so tantalizingly briefly) mentions what’s up next for the Sims 2 …

Yes, but the bliss of no fan revving up when I play the Sims 2 is wonderful, and the card is pretty; it looks like a mini brass trombone is attached to it.

And isn’t anything new to those who looked at the back of their Sims 2 CD case.

I got 95/90 when I got my two kids in. The first time I tried, my whole family got the flu like two seconds after I called the headmaster, and it went off disastrously (I think I got a 49 or something embarrassing like that). My strategy the second time was to call a nanny to look after the kids for a while, make sure both my adult sims were well rested before the headmaster showed up, and split duties between them when he got there. I had my female sim schmooze and give the house tour while the husband cooked dinner. I also had the teenage son and husband schmooze a couple of times. With all those things combined, it didn’t take long to rack up the points.
