Sims2 is Here! [unboxed Spoilers!]

Note that The Urbz is a completely separate game and doesn’t really have anything to do with The Sims 2. It’s for the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube and is a successor to the previous console versions of the original Sims.

EA hasn’t announced anything about the expansion packs for Sims 2 yet, except that there are, of course, going to be lots of them.

I once got a 167/90 for the headmaster visit. The house was great, but the sim burned turkey twice before getting porkchops done right. I moved the burnt dinners out to the lawn and schmoozed him and had coffee and had my other sims play darts.

Has anyone had luck having green babies yet? We can’t seem to get any men pregnant.

Yes; 90 is the minimum to get in. Our best score so far was in the upper 140s, IIRC.

You do not recall correctly. Our best score was 167 when Runcible Quince burnt the turkeys.

:smack:
I thought he just had something against interracial couples.

Seriously, I did get some kids in before; I just forgot what score I had.

OK:

First of all, there are certain “hidden skills” that a Sim develops: dancing, Yoga, and meditation. The more a Sim does these things, the better he becomes at it, but there’s no way of actually tracking his ability - you just have to watch him (ever notice one of your Sims suddenly pulling off really wild dance moves?) Once meditation skill progresses (invisibly) beyond a certain point, teleportation becomes available, and works just like “Go Here.”
I had another Headmaster fiasco yesterday - still couldn’t invite him to dinner, but did get him into the hot tub. Got a score of 106, which should have been ok, but apparently no dinner = no pass, no matter what. So I invited him over again, and gave up on calling him to dinner, and just had everyone sit down and eat. Sure enough, he joined us, and FINALLY I got the kid in.

Then the wife (a Family sim) decided she wanted another kid (despite 2 natural and 1 adopted kid already) so I gave in and let her Try for Baby. The woman is Fertile Myrtle - she got pregnant the first go, and had twins! Oy, I need a full time nanny.

I had the husband painting a picture of his wife, but he stopped midway through for something. A few days later, I had him resume the painting. The wife went back and posed for the picture - but I’d moved the easel. I figured it would be interesting to see how the game handled it. It announced that he was finished and that I could hang or sell it, so I took a look.

It was a picture of him painting the picture. Bizarre.

I thought I played too much as it is

How do you adopt a child?!

You call “Services…” and select “Adoption Agency”.

Ingeniously clever.

I don’t have that as an option. Can single parents adopt?

Good question; I’m not sure. I do know you have to have at least 8K in cash available, and have never had a child taken by Social Services. I’ll check my guide tonight about single parents - something tells me they can’t adopt, though.

We finally got Dave pregnant! He’s waddling around now wearing a t-shirt with an alien face on it. His wife is pregnant too, and gives birth about a day before. Two babies at once, that’s always a lot of fun, although it won’t be the first time for this house (Jim and Bexley are twins). At least there’s two teens and an unrelated adult in the house to help. They need to have a Headmaster Dinner soon, though, as the third child (these two will be numbers four and five) needs to get into private school. Christy (his wife) wants to have ten kids, so after she has this one it’ll be off to down some more elixir (we’ve used up three coolers of it so far but they have enough points to buy ten more) and try for another baby. Any suggestions for names?

In any case, it does appear to be important that your telescope be on the highest level of your house.

I looked in my guide, which says that single parents can adopt; and you must have 3K (not 8k like I originally said) in funds.

w00t! I got my single male Sim, Chris Swashbuckler (he is dressed in that quasi-Pirate outfit), pregnant by aliens! Little Neutron is now halfway through the toddler stage. I haven’t had any problems with the nanny doing anything funky and she is always very prompt in taking care of him, but she has only been over two or three times.

Little Neutron will (eventually) have another sibling, but I haven’t decided when yet.

This is so much fun

Dave gave birth tonight. Video here (warning: 2.4MB file, may be slow) for the easily amused. The Cherries now have 8 people living in the house (seven Cherries plus Amin Sims, a townie who lives with them as a live-in nanny, more or less).

The Vernal household:

Initial setup: Spouses Darren and Jasmine, with child daughter Autumn, and adult roommate Joey. Darren and Jasmine have family aspirations, while Joey is a romancer.

Despite being a fat, unkempt slob, Joey manages to do a successful bit of wooing around the Vernal household, first with Darren’s best friend, then with Darren’s own wife. After a few rounds of woo-hoo, Joey and Jasmine decide to try for a baby (you’d think he’d be more discreet about messing around with the wife of an elite forces soldier), and meet with success. It’s a boy, and Jasmine quickly decides to cover her tracks by naming him Darren, Jr. Junior knows who his real daddy is, though, and is pained to see mommy sleeping with another man. Darren seems oblivious to the whole thing. Autumn, meanwhile, has become a romantic teen, and is breaking hearts all around town. At the same time she forges a strong bond with Darren, Jr., teaching him all his childhood skills and becoming his best friend in the family.

Then, the big day came. Autumn transformed into a beautiful adult, and Joey just couldn’t help himself. In less than 24 hours, he managed to impregnante not only Autumn, but Jasmine as well, then packed his bags and hit the road.

Three days later, Jasmine and Autumn are taking turns rubbing each other’s swollen bellies, Darren Jr. is a star pupil who’s seething with anger at his parents (He apparently blames Jasmine for driving out his father, and Darren for plowing his mom), and Darren is just wandering around as clueless as ever.

My side project is the Japanese Imperial family. I’ve given sim-princess Masako completely incompatible aspirations and a family that can’t stand her, then shut her away from all outside social contact, just to see if she goes as nuts as the real one.

Cognac Broke joined Alexander Goth in Holy Union last night. They live in a lovely European town home with a four story telescope tower. I how to get Alexander pregnant soon. They are so in love, Alexander is a family Sim in the science track and Cognac is a fortune Sim in business, just like his step-father Gnose Snifter. I think we will name the child after Gnose. Angela is married to Dustin, and I still hate her. I think she will watch the clouds soon. A new family moved into the neighborhood, Emma and Ruth Frankel. Ruth is an athlete and Emma is a crossing guard.

Has anyone done much with the Caliente’s?

I’ve yet to get a Sim pregnant. Is abortion an option?

Nope.

Last night, I encountered a bug with stairs.

Had two guests over. As they often do in the Sims-verse, they stay around and watch TV and get to know eachother long after the host family’s gone to bed (it was day 1 in a new house, so no work - they were pining for their bed by 7).

When the wife sim gets up in the morning, she does her usual - takes a crap, takes a bath. While she’s doing that, I get her set up to serve breakfast (dishes in the dishwasher, click on fridgemagator, select omelets).

I go back upstairs and take a look at the wife. She’s standing at the head of the empty stairway, shouting that there’s something blocking the way. And my two guests have crashed on the floor.

I can’t get wifey down the stairs. And when the guests wake up, they’re complaining about the same thing - something invisible is on the stairs or blocking it.

So, only one thing I could think of to do: go into build, sell the stairs, and replace. I was a bit surprised that I could sell the stairs - if I’d diagnosed the bug correctly, the stairs would have been declared in use and not for sale. But they disappeared, with a chingle of change, when I hit delete. Buy the new stairs, and everybody files down in an orderly manner.

Everybody missed work, of course.

Anybody else encounter this? Is there a better way to solve the problem, aside from making sure you always have two stairways or teaching your sims to teleport? If I used the Move Object cheat on the sleeping guests, and deleted them, would they have been removed from the neighborhood?
