“The fact that you’ve got “Replica” written down the side of your gun, and the fact that I’ve got “Desert Eagle point five oh” written on the side of mine, should precipitate your balls into shrinking, along with your presence.”

Had to.

M’sipi gal, you keep on gettin’ farther and farther away from home. First it was gonna’ be Virginia, now you’re all the way to the other side of New York.
Me and yer uncle gonna’ have to jump in the truk and come atter ya’, if you doan’ slow all that ramblin’ down.

Got you [post=4850427]beat[/post] by about 10 hours, dude.

jeevwoman, I don’t know if Eva Luna likes me or not. I think we’ve had fightyfights somewhere around here. saramamalana, however, gets bonus points for picking up the song and carrying it further.

25 year old, Reform Jewish girl in Chicago. (But I’m partially of Irish descent and look it.) Must have patience with my love for the San Francisco Giants. Stats geeks welcome. The radio is set to NPR. I usually read nonfiction, but occasionally lighten things up with fantasy, esp. George R.R. Martin and Robin Hobb. Currently reading The Iliad - not because of the Troy movie, but because I wanted to understand the references in Tad Williams’ Otherland books. I’m a lifelong learner - since graduating from college in 2000 I’ve taken courses in math, Arabic, Spanish, and economics. I’m a volunteer at the Field Museum, where I answer questions about Sue the T-Rex. I have a trilobite fossil on my desk at work, and the coelacanth is my totem animal. I have a telescope but am permanently frustrated by the poor seeing in Chicago. Political conservatives need not respond. Interest in the world at large a must.

People are often susprised to realize I am a geek. I am a stealth geek.

For Kyla:

NnnnngAHhah… wuh… buh… mbuhuh… how YOU doin’?!

One question, though - do you know what a wiwaxia is?

Damn, CandidGamera, you beat me to my favorite Snatch quote. What a great movie. I could watch it daily.

Yeah, I love that movie.

And if you guys haven’t seen it, check out Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.

Same directory, Guy Ritchie, and the very same Jason Statham (Turkish), Jason Flemyng (Darren) and Vinnie Jones (Bullet Tooth Tony).

Very funny. I highly recommend it.

‘We grow copious amounts of ganja, yeah, and you’re carrying a wasted girl and a bag of fertilizer. You don’t look like your average horto-fucking-culturalist.’

'Also, I think knives are a good idea. Big, fuck-off shiny ones. Ones that look like they could skin a crocodile. Knives are good, because they don’t make any noise, and the less noise they make, the more likely we are to use them. Shit 'em right up. Makes it look like we’re serious. Guns for show, knives for a pro. ’

Well, I was going to say no, but I googled it, and discovered that I do! Well, enough so that I immediately recognized the picture I came up with as part of the Burgess Shale.

Being a nerd-girl myself, I knew I’d never find happiness outside my own race, so I married a Babylon 5-watching, Trekkie computer art-generating Doper RPGer, but if I were in the market for a mate, I would not glance at Match or Yahoo Personals—I’d go right to the source: the SDMB.

Having briefly derailed this thread simply by bringing up a movie name, I don’t know if that’s a sign of power or of the overwhelming popularity of a good movie.

Success at flirting
Is not in my history
So, how you doin’?

Okies, here’s me:

37 year old SWF in NYC. I’m more of a nerd than a geek, really - I like gadgets but am not too heavy into the making and programming thereof. I’m a consulting geologist who works mostly with archaeology folks these days, but I still hang on to an office at a NASA facility.

I’ve loved sci-fi since I was little, and I’m a long-time Trek (TOS) and B5 fan. If I’m not reading sci-fi/fantasy I’m likely buried in a thriller/suspense/horror novel or else something historical (ancient history is a fave). I’m not a music snob; I’ll listen to just about anything but metal, given the right mood. I’m not big on romantic movies for the most part (Bollywood flicks are an exception), but James Bond is cool, and if we can nitpick scientific inaccuracies so much the better. I’ve been to India and Australia, loved them both, and would love the chance to explore more places and cultures.

I’m pretty easy-going, likely to be quiet at first but very soon you may find that at times you couldn’t shut me up no matter how much you tried.

Hmmmm, ok.

I am an F9 (11001) y/o male, I’ll be FA (11010) in a couple weeks. I began programming in BASIC when I was in grade school. I was a computer programmer in the Air Force. I have a geek code laying around here somewhere, but it’s a little old… I have a velvet Elvis painting on the wall. I listen to just about anything except whatever’s popular at the moment, and rap, I hate hate hate rap. I almost cried when I lost my hard drive last week.
The geek in me is balanced out with my inner Biker. So I’m only a geek when I’m not on my bike. Does that still count? I run linux for the fun of it. I yell at my computer… uh… often.
I have 5 gaming consoles hooked up to my TV right now but the cable is hooked only to the computer.

You know, the trouble for some of us is that some of us are not in our 20’s or even 30’s , and most of you are. Of course I’m not really nerdy either. Although I like to learn anything new. And I do love computers. But I’m definitely more artsy than nerdy. But not all that artsy. I like a lot of different things and do a lot of different things. And I feel kind of silly posting this. Well, statistically speaking, I’m older than 40, am relatively short, could stand to lose about 15-20 pounds (but have great cleavage and a small waist), and have lots and lots of long red curly hair. And yes, it’s natural.
I play piano/guitar, am currently an editor and sometimes writer, worked in human services for years, mostly in clinical management, and like to fix things. I like intelligent discussions, but am not a debater. I’m kind of middle of the road and like to see all sides of an issue. Humor is key, along with a positive attitude, but ability to withstand some short-lived moaning is good. Adventurous is good, too. Adventurous moaning is even better.

KHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!

Now that I’m almost done with finals, I can justify the time to delurk and post. (Way to get one’s five dollars’ worth, eh?)

I’m a single white guy. Five foot ten. Germanic descent, red-blond hair, graduating with my first engineering degree this weekend, but sticking around for my Master’s. I own both a PC (homebuilt) and iMac, fly Cessnas (152/172) and Pipers (Warrior series), love the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Universe series, Cartoon Network’s Adult Swim block, fiddle around with telescopes (when I was on co-op, I volunteered at an observatory and conducted public viewing nights), and know my way around the kitchen very well. I love arcane problem solving (like this thread). And I love my toys (geek or otherwise); this is my latest, and it flies.

Hmm… intelligent type, international flair… how you doin’? Seriously, you sound neat. Shall we talk?

Well, my post was surprisingly low on geek cred.

I love the game consoles. I’ve got a PS2, a Gamecube (with GBA player) and a (currently broken) Dreamcast. No Xbox for me. I bought the Neo Geo Pocket Color the very day they were being recalled. And I still play a lot of the old games. I also know way too much about them. Ask me about the differences between the Japanese and American Final Fantasy series sometime.

I’ve got a whole bunch of animated DVDs. Futurama seasons 1,2, and 3, the whole run of Family Guy, Excel Saga 1-6, a disc or two of Ranma 1/2, a disc of The Ping-Pong Club, Spirited Away, Metropolis, Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, and the list goes on. I carry around the ACROSS ID card from Excel Saga in my wallet, but I haven’t gotten around to filling it out yet. Also: I like Dragon Ball, but Dragon Ball Z sucks.

I’m a Linux user. No Windows here. Well, I run quite a few games under WINE (and dosbox, for that matter), but that doesn’t use any Windows code. I don’t program, but I’ve worked with HTML, CSS and PHP.

I used to play Magic: The Gathering a lot, but not so much anymore (I know ONE person who plays it, and a few who USED TO). I’m not getting rid of my cards, though… made THAT mistake before. I dominated the small local tournament I played regularly back in MO, though. I’ve played a little bit of pencil-paper-dice RPGs, but not a whole lot. I wouldn’t mind trying more, though.

Oh, and here’s a picture of me. It’s about four or five years old, though: I’ve lost weight, and my hair’s now back to its natural generic brown. And of course, it’s much shorter (in accordance with regs: tapered, can’t touch your ears, and no more than an inch or so in bulk).

Hi KeithT

I’m a little rusty at this but here goes:

I’m doing great, how you doin’?

How was that? Sure, we can talk

Nah, you don’t even have to get out of state (geographically, at least) to find someone:D[sub]Getting there is another matter[/sub]

I think nocturne and UnwrittenNocturne have all y’all beat, though; Oz to America, unless I’m very much mistaken.

21 year old SWM, heterosexual, from Northern California. Currently between jobs, and suffering from internet addiction. I’m an atheist/materialist, and a political centrist (my extreme right-wing and extreme left-wing beliefs hold each other in perfect balance. ;)). I also enjoy escapism, and sci-fi worldbuilding.

I have a fondness for odd, little-known machines and technologies. Especially Crazy Luftwaffe Prototypes.™

I’m looking for…well, Michelle Meyrink from Real Genius, more or less. She was cool.

As for my “geek cred”…

•I not only have an action figure collection, I have a custom action figure collection. I built an “Amelie Poulain” figure, just because I could.
I write fanfic, and build aircraft for flight simulators. And sometimes build vehicles from fanfic for flight simulators.
•My bookshelves have collapsed under their own weight before. More than once.
•I collect information. Just about any information. (You never know when it’ll come in handy.)
•I have participated in online “Mistings” of bad movies. Including the great Y2K AMC Godzilla movie marathon. All eight hours of it. There were only three MSTies left standing at the end the day. I was one of them.
•I own a copy of Berlioz’ Les Troyens, and a copy of the Escaflowne anime soundtrack.

Oh, and Ava, PookahMacPhellimey? I won’t say “How you doin,” but I WILL say…“Fair thoughts and happy hours attend on you!”

I am a gentleman, after all. (Well…I try to be. I think I’m more Quasimodo than Henry Higgins.)

Well, I’ll get back to wandering the Earth. Alone. Pausing occasionally to…
Ranchoth
(Oh, and here’s a Geek code translator page, if it’s of any help.)

May I take this opportunity to smile and bat my eyelashes at you, Ranchoth? Challenge you to a game of Trivial Pursuit? Offer you a drink over which we might criticise the inferior facial sculpts on the last line of LotR figures?
(Also, because I forgot earlier, meet Miss Junie.)
