Actually, Single Mom (and Single Dads) is an Oxymoron, IMHO.
Given his generally stressed demeanor, I bet you’re right. 
Just sort of boggles my mind how he can think that way. Another (male) coworker turned down some available overtime by saying “Sorry, but my wife works and I have to get the kids from school.” and bossman was nonplussed. He said something along the lines of if they managed right they wouldn’t need the wife to work, and that’s why he is a boss and not an underling, because he never had to screw up his work committments with family stuff since his wife was there for that stuff, grumble grumble.
So it’s like on some level he recognizes his wife adds value by taking care of the kids and house and all, but the rest of us are somehow just lesser mortals for not having the exact same plan as him I guess.
Luckily, in my line of work, I don’t directly interact with my supervisor much and also know I’ll be transferring out of his department soon, so I don’t bother worrying about it.
