I’m divorced. Which, to me, means I’m single.
No matter which term you use, to me, it means the same thing.
All it takes is for it to mean something different for some people. If it doesn’t mean anything different for others, then saying “divorced” instead of “single” isn’t going to hurt. But the opposite could lead to someone feeling misled.
I personally like to know. It puts me on my guard, since people who have divorced once are statistically more likely to do it again.
So, you’re “on your guard” in case they suddenly, spontaneously divorce and you get hit with back splatter?
