MamaTigs, I sympathise - same thing happened to me earlier, but the culprit was a 16-month old with a penchant for turning off the power to the router!!!
I’m really awake, really early. So I guess I’ll get prepared for a productive weekend and get stuff set up to continue painting. Haven’t had the energy all week to do this. If not tonight, then tomorrow a.m.
And Rebo - I’ve added you for September 8…
Happy FIRDAY!!!
GT
I feel so tired today. And I have no energy. But it’s almost time for work. Ugh.
Oh, Pie, I’m sorry.
Morning, everyone. Nat woke up at 4 but I brought him back to bed with me and persuaded him to sleep till six. So I feel very cheerful. And I picked up a copy of Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes A Day, which looks very interersting. It’s sort of a variation on the no-knead bread method. I’ve got the foccacia dough rising right now. I’ll let you know.
Attacks Husband came by last night with zuchinni and garlic. So that’s on the menu this weekend, definitely. As well as no-knead chocolate bread maybe?
I’ll host on 9/29

I LURVES Two Lumps!
Mornin’!
Everybody’s so sleepy! Even the night crew was quieter that normal!
LiLi let me know about the bread- I’m intrigued and it sounds good!
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienatin’ here. Once again I survived a hazardous commute from the kitchen to the study. I almost bumped into the coffee table!
Soapy, you don’t have sis’s secret weapon. Ok, she’s my sissy and I’d do most anything for her. However, if that’s not enough, she will have my niece make sad puppy dog eyes at me. That’s so unfair cause she knows that’ll make me melt.
donkeybear sadly, no, I will not be at SD. I’m waaaaaaay past attending those type of events. I just don’t have the energy anymore. Besides, a passel of folk will be at da cave over Labor Day weekend.
BioRosie HEE! I lurves Happy Feet!
Ok, to the work pile!
Later Y’all!
It’s finally Firday, and I don’t have to work today! w00t!
I have a lot of things to do today - go to the cleaners; go to the doctor for my diabetes checkup; go get my car’s oil changed, tires rotated, and inspection; take my necklace in for repair; get my hair cut.
I’ll be busy little Rebo.
Have a great day, MMP!
Li-Li, I also have that cookbook. Sadly, I have only tried the basic bread recipe and then it all seemed to get away from me somehow.
Blurf, even if it is Firday. I worked a one car wreck last night which kept me up waaaaaaaaaay too late for my proper amount of ugly sleep. A teenaged girl hit an electric pole head on; she was smacked around in general and will be sore but OK.
Welcome back, Nooner.
Am I the only one ignroing the Olympics?
Here’s a link to a discussion about the book and the basic recipe
So far it looks good. Going in the oven in about five minutes. It certainly was easy. I think I’ll bake the whole batch today, and do half rosemary and half chili-garlic. Actually, the chili-garlic sauce from Danforth Dragon. And black pepper.
I need a very large square Rubbermaid container for this stuff.
Mornin’
I think the Olympics may be short of things to show during the Prime Time slots in the USA. They are broadcasting live when they show the Beach Volleyball, and usually it’s while they’re waiting for swimming races and gymnastics stuff to go. Nine pm Eastern is what time in China?
Ever After is a very good movie.
Sends some energy to Pie.
BBBobbio every four years I ignore the Olympics. It’s only by coincidence that they happen to be on the year I choose to ignore 'em.
So far the work pile is goin’ pretty fast. Not a whole lot of MUMBLEMUMBLEMUMBLE. Course now that I’ve typed that out, that’s all I’ll get from now on.
Ok, back to work…
Morning all - well caffeinated by now, of course, and at work. And a very HAPPY FIRDAY to all!
Dotty, it’s good to hear that your new job is going so well, even if the Dope is blocked–it’s okay to put up with that rather than having to stay late all the time.
GT, where would you head to up in Michigan, if you did a day trip?! I lived in Morenci, a very small town just north of the Ohio border, not far from Toledo, from 55-57. I remember going to some sort of Congregational summer camp, too, but that was somewhere near Grand Haven (the camp was called Pilgrim Haven, I think), on the coast of Lake Michigan. Strange the things one remember from that far back sometimes, itsn’t it?! This is the same place where I would get the lollipops at the banks and cleaners, btw. Oh yes, I’d like to volunteer for one Monday as well–is 9/15 available?
I have some interesting topics in mind.
Cooking Mumpers, I need a couple of recipes, please.
The first is the sour cream version of cucumbers and onions. I know very well how to make the vinegar kind.
The second may be a project. I wanna know how to make kimchi. Haze?
Nope. We didn’t even tune in for the opening ceremony. Maybe if there were better coverage and it didn’t all revolve around the commentary and/or the athletes’ life stories, we’d watch. Maybe if they showed, oh, I don’t know, the EVENTS? But in the format it’s in now, nope. I’m not watching.
I’m really glad it’s Firday. It’s been a blah week here and I’m glad it’s over!
Our new, and hopefully-to-be-regular cleaning lady’s coming by this afternoon. We haven’t had anyone come clean regularly before so it seems kinda weird, but I think the idea that we get one week off a month from vacuuming and cleaning the bathrooms and stuff will get us over that pretty quick. That and the idea that the house will actually get dusted and the floors will get mopped. We kinda let those things go for *really *long stretches without being done. Paying someone to do it means it’ll get done and there won’t be any arguing about whose turn it is to do it.
Now if I could just hire someone to come in every day and wash the non-dishwasher-compatible dishes!
Easy. 9:00 a.m.
I have completely ignored the Olympics so far. It’s great.
So’s the foccacia. I think I might do a slightly longer or overnight rise for more flavour next time, but it’s very tasty and it was dead easy. Doing this again in the next day or so. There’s a Portugese cornbread recipe I want to try, too. I love Portugese cornbread.
My cats would be so much happier with opposable thumbs.
BBBobbio here’s one I like.
Cucumber Salad
2 cucumbers
1 large onion
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
Freshly ground black pepper
Peel and slice the cucumbers and onion and put them in a glass bowl. Sprinkle them with salt and vinegar. Cover and let stand for 30 minutes. Pour off the excess liquid and drain in colander for about 30 minutes to allow complete drainage. Add the mayonnaise, sour cream, dill and pepper, and mix well. Cover and refrigerate until serving time.
IMO, this is best made the night before and allowed to refrigerate over night. It really needs to be eaten in a couple of days. So far, that’s never been a problem around here.
ETA: Of course they would Soapy. Then they could kill you and open the tuna cans by themselves.
