Warning: venting ahead.
The days off I was supposed to get at the end of this week to compensate for the weekend have been revoked. One of the muckety-mucks apparently woke up this morning and decided that since we’d been so good about meeting the last unreasonable deadline, he may as well give us another one.
Don’t want us getting out of soft and out of practice, I suppose.
Technically, it’s illegal to ask me to work more than 6 days in a row or more than 48 hours in a work week, so I’m not allowed to ask for overtime pay for anything in excess of that. Sooo… that means that all I’m getting for putting in over 60 hours in the last week is a pat on the head, an almond pastry, and the promise that they’ll give me the days off when they can (which, from the looks of it, will be sometime in 2010).
I’m so exhausted right now that I could just curl up into a ball and cry over the thought of having to work another four solid workdays plus the inevitable overtime.
Thank Og for the week off I booked at the end of the month.
I guess I’m a weirdo because I have absolutely no interest in watching the Olympics. I think the whole thing is boring. I do like the Winter Olympics stuff better. I like the downhill, slalom, and ski jumping competitions. I’ll watch those if nothing else is on.
I’ve done nothing today but pay a few bills. That is the extent of my productivity, but I don’t feel too badly about it. I figure entitled to a goof off day.

LiLi, could you meet them in a park somewhere or something so 1) it’s outdoors and the dog doesn’t climb all over your furniture, 2) the dog doesn’t bother the cats, and 3) when you’ve had enough “fun” with the licking and whatnot, you can claim a headache and go home? I’m pretty anti-dog or at least anti-not-well-behaved-dog (my parents dog does not lick, is not allowed on any furniture, and only barks for a few seconds when someone’s at the door and then stops when they say “It’s ok” so he gets a pass… the inlaws’ dogs, not so much. They’re the allowed-anywhere, climb-on-anything, bark-their-bloody-heads-off, lick-everything fur-covered menaces.) so I, personally, wouldn’t allow your friends’ dog in my house.
Hmm… I think the grande mocha from $tarbucks isn’t helping. The above paragraph seems like pretty good evidence that my grumpiness hasn’t abated. I feel like snarling at everyone. I’m not PMSing… I don’t know why I’m so grumpy. Bleh.
I don’t really like the Olympics either, Taters. There’s way too much coverage of the athletes and their stories and not enough of the actual events. Why do we need to talk to the parents and the coaches from when the athletes were 5 and to their sister? C’mon. Just show the frickin’ events.

Anyhoo, just wanted to say that everyone I’ve met has been really nice.
I have no time for Doping today, sadly enough or tomorrow or next day. I just spent 3 hours running errands with #2 son, who has his new glasses now, and a new backpack and other things. Registration is tomorrow.
Re that whole TH might be fired stuff? He says that his boss talked to him on Friday and they’ve come to a deal of sorts–it’s more of a consultant move than severance. Me, I’m just going to keep going. I’ve been turned every way but inside out with his job dramas this summer and I’m done buying popcorn.
Another gorgeous, cool, sunny AUGUST day–what is up with this? It’s marvelous out. I’m

Howdy jellybean! I’ve been to Aberdeen. I did some work with a local place there that provides job training to people with disabilities. I acutally stayed in Columbus cause they said I’d find better places to eat there.

My baby is employed!! She’ll be teaching second grade at Potomac Elementary School in Dahlgren, VA. New employee orientation is Aug 21, and school starts on Sep 2. The principal said she can go in anytime next week to start setting up her classroom.

The main problem is that it’s an hour and a half drive here, so I feel badly about sending them home after a short visit. We’ve achieved detente- they’re either going to try and put the do with some friends for the day, or it’s going to be a very short (couple of hours) visit. I don’t feel badly enough about it to let their dog all over my furniture.

I just realised I have some fresh wax beans in the backyard that are ready to be picked and should be eaten for din din tonight. Does anyone have any suggestions for interesting bean-type dishes? I suppose I could just steam them, but these are my very own home-grown ones, so I’d like to give them the four-star treatment (plus I’d love to do something interesting with beans, for a change).
