Six degrees of Straight Dope

Hehe, nope. I just started working at my club about a year ago, and mine is right off Stemmons.

I do know the club you mean though, one of the previous managers used to come into another club I worked at to try and convince me to go work at Million Dollar instead.

My current club’s a little more upscale than Million Dollar. Worked at Cabaret Royale for a few months too, but frankly, while it used to be one of the best (and most profitable to work in) strip clubs in the country, the clientele has really dropped off there the last couple years, so I didn’t stay long

I’ve got a couple friends who worked at 3DO and Capcom at one time or another. Depending on when you were there, we might know people in common.

Other companies I’ve worked for are LucasArts, a Bay Area start-up called Infinite Machine, and a very large corporate entertainment entity that usually goes by two letters.

One hit for me, already noted, being the brother of clothahump’s first lip score almost forty years ago.

Other than that:

• for the most part I grew up in Houston, Texas and attended River Oaks Elementary, St. John’s School and Lamar High School, from which I graduated in 1971.

• I lived in Tokyo, Japan in 1958-59 and Kobe, Japan in 1964-65, where I attended the Canadian Academy.

• During the early 1970s I played drums for a hard working Texas band called Devil’s Wall and, in surrounding years, for many other bands I am sure y’all have never crossed paths with.

• From 1975 through 1980 I was a full time student at The University of Texas at Austin.

• I also attended classes at the University of Houston (1973-74; 1981-1986), College of the Mainland (1974), St. Thomas University (1972 & 1974), Houston Community College (1983) and North Harris College (1995).

• Skydived with what I seem to recall was called the Space City Skydiving Club (but I could be wrong about the name), operating out of Dickinson, Texas (1982-83).

• Worked for several years, in multiple locations and cities, for a now legendary Texas restaurant chain, Hamburgers By Gourmet.

• Owned and operated a Roy’s Taxi hack in Austin, Texas for most of the last half of the 1970s.

• Since early (January) 1981 I’ve been involved in domestic U.S. (as well as some foreign) oil and gas exploration - if you are as well, there’s a good chance we’ve run across each other.

Should I also list all my incarcerations (not too many of those acquaintance I care to renew)?

Now that I think about it, gundy’s mate and I discovered we’d both attended the same rather small high school.

ILM? If so, when, and do you know a guy named Ed Gronke?

I usually worked the bleachers or view deck above the plate.

I was born there. [/Sulu]

My fiancee was born and raised in Flint. I lived there for a summer. Let me guess your dad…was he ever the mayor? Is he a politician at all? Or is he more of a media asshole?

I’m in Hyde Park, Chicago, these days, which connects me to the OP. But I spent all my years before here (save that one summer in MI) in SE Ohio.

I went to summer school at Cupertino High one year. Bor-ing! My grandma lived in Sunnyvale.

More info on me:
I went to Monta Vista High school in Cupertino. Went to UC Berkeley for college.
I was a contractor for PGE in northern California. If you’ve had your trees trimmed by PGE, there’s a decent chance it was me who came to look at them. I lived in Laytonville for a couple years.
I also lived in Burlington VT for two years. Now I live in Oakland but I’m about to move to Richmond.

Whoops, I see now you said Jr. High. Well it doesn’t matter because I’ve been there too, playing basketball and volleyball against you guys. Go Miller Jr. High!

St. Mary’s! You know, that doesn’t exist as a school anymore ? so, you are probably not a Catholic anymore. Actually, St. Mary’s was my mom’s church until 1948 or so…and I went to summer school for math there…where the nun never paid us any attention after taking role and we went over to Oliver Twist Ice Cream to waste the day…GOOD Unchaperoned Times! YAY!

I’m actually in Brandon. Between Oxford & Ortonville. Yeah, for all you stalkers…just watch out for the monster sized dog poops all over my yard…

I lived in both Palatine and Bensenville at different times. I sat in on some rehearsals at Fenton with the Bensenville Community Band and did consulting work for Harper.

Do you know a guy named John from Kansas?

Nope, the videogame division. And the name doesn’t sound familiar.

50 miles south of you in Chillicothe.

I walk those same halls now. As did one other doper I know of. I’ll leave it to her to fess up.

Would that be Fayetteville Arkansas by any chance, Donkey? I’m class of 1980.

Hey, wow, go Cavs…

I infer from these quotes that you are now a teacher. What do you teach? Whom did you replace (if you know)?

My uncle and aunt lived there for many years. She always talked about it like it was the Garden of Eden, so when I finally visited it was a shock to find…well…Barstow.

But mine is still more obscure:

Born and raised in Paulding County, Ohio, and still there, with a few years in Van Wert and Convoy, Ohio, and Fort Wayne, Indiana.

Worked at Stratoflex in Fort Wayne, Dana in Antwerp, OH, and now I work for a non-profit in Defiance, Ohio.

Attended IBC in Fort Wayne, St-Mary-of-the-Woods near Terre Haute, IN, and was an external student at U Mass Lowell.

Extended family in Roswell, NM; Marion, Findlay, Toledo, Columbus, Zanesville, and Delaware, OH; and Seattle, WA.

My grandma was born in a place called Greasy Ridge. It would thrill me to pieces to find someone who has connections there.

I don’t see anything with a quick glance that I recognize, so I’ll go with it.

I’ve been there four years. I work in the TV studio at the high school and teach a broadcasting class. I also do media and IT stuff.

Anything with the QA department? I worked as an on-site tester for a couple of games for the past few months and some Lucas people were sent down to help us out.
