any predictions for the last two episodes? i’ve heard that nate will SPOILER COMING find out about brenda’s cheating and it’s supposed to be ugly. what could that possibly mean? does he read her book and figure it out? does he catch her in the act with another large stoner boy? and what’s the deal with brenda and billy anyway…it’s pointing to something sick and yucky.
I’m obsessed with this show (I think your thread title may prevent people from looking in here if they think they’ll see something they don’t want to know. I’d have called it something more innocuous like ‘Six Feet Under Discussion’ or whatever.). I’ve been hoping Nate would find out about Brenda. For one brief moment in the most recent show it seemed like she had come to her senses and was giving up her wild ways, but of course it didn’t turn out that way. That scene with the two dudes was just incredible. She is one screwed up lady.
While I hope Nate finds out because I don’t want them to get married, he’s gonna have a tough time with it. Dunno how he would handle it.
I also hope and suspect that David and Keith are going to break up again. I mean, you gotta see it coming. Maybe David will call up that other guy and push him around some. Or maybe they’ll leave us with a cliffhanger on this subplot and make us wait till next season.
It also seems like Nikolai and Ruth are headed for a split. Maybe the finale will leave the Fischers finally coming together as a family without their respective SO’s or something along those lines. Or, again, perhaps the finale will have just the series of explosive breakups and leave the family togetherness for next season’s premier.
No you aren’t.
Not sure where it’s going (one of the reasons this show is so good), but if I were to guess:
Keith and David wind up taking the kid and maybe they all move into the family mortuary - would give mother someone to mother.
Claire’s old boyfriend (forgot his name - the crazy with the gun) returns to terrorize Claire and runs up agains Billy…Crazy #2 and the psychos battle it out.
To be honest, I am kinda tired of the Nate and Brenda story…they are starting to remind me of your average, bickering next door neighbors. If I were writing it, Brenda would find the “real” dangerous sex partner she’s been itchin’ for and regret it big time. Nate would get a serious bonk on the head and come out of the anti-social coma he has been having since episode one.
I did like that the opening death with a hot dog involves Rico’s wife…now that Rico has suddenly become CSI/Quincy of the morgue.
It’s a very well written show - unpredictable, but realistic in an odd-ball way. I’m sure you and I are not the only fans on this board!
Man, how could Brenda make Nate feel like the pre marital problems were all on him? Even after she “FORGAVE” him. Though, as slutty as Brenda was, she didn’t bring home a baby. I still think she’s equally or more to blame. To avoid any: “if it were Nate, he wouldn’t be considered a slutt in you opinion”, not true… Nate would be just as much slutt if he acted like her. Brenda does have some serious issues that may cause her to do these things, but why would she ask Nate to marry her?
I too am sick of Nate and Brenda. They sound like most of the idiot people I know who are my age (21), that talking to me about their relationships like this: “Well she did ‘this’, but then I did ‘this’. Then we made up, but there was still the matter of ‘this’, so she said it was ok if I have sex with someone else, but only if she were with us in bed.” These people have serious social, obedience, dominance and slelf esteem problems… and I’m sick of it.
I like Rico… his story at least. He’s got to work on his prejudice of gays. His wife is a jackass sometimes. He can be a jackass to her… but it’s because she blaims him for stuff she’s equally to blaim for. Like buying the house without talking to him, then blaiming him for it’s problems.
As I watched this week’s show again tonight, it occurred to me that I really hope that when Nate finds out about Brenda he flips out and gets together with the rabbi. That would be screwy in a good way.
I too am addicted to the show … I’ve heard that Brenda is going to ask for a bit of a “time out” from Nate at the end of this season. This would be a good thing, IMO. Maybe she’s starting to see how screwed up she really is. Plus, you can’t have characters marry on a show – it’s the kiss of death for the characters – kind of a weird television thing.
Nicholai and Ruth are heading for a breakup, I think. She’s just too smothering. But he’s got to pay back the money she paid to the mobster. Talk about being in a dilemmna!
I loved Keith and David in the first season, but now I’m having problems with them. Keith is working on my one good nerve – too aggressive and touchy. David should get out until Keith takes an anger management class or finds medication or something. Someone is going to get hurt.
I kind of think Ruth paid the mobster not to keep Nikolai safe, but to keep him indebted to her. I don’t think this was conscious, but clearly she needs someone around to care for.
In the scenes for next week’s show - who the hell was Keith beating up on?
The rabbi is one of my favorite characters in the show. I would convert for her.
Nate and Brenda are headed to some serious trouble and I think their wedding will be called off, but they will still be a couple. Mainly because they aren’t going to jettison an actress as accomplished as Rachel Griffiths.
(aside) I saw the film “The Rookie” Monday and I kept expecting Rachel Griffith’s character to go off and have sex with all the kids on the baseball team. Thankfully, she didn’t. (/aside)
I don’t think we’ve heard the last from the Russian Mafia. They will likely start leaning on the funeral home now.
Not that this is earth-shattering news, but on the NY Post page six gossip section (doesn’t get any more credible than that, does it?) they said that Rachel Griffith (Brenda) has developed a reputation as a “diva” on the set, and has made quite a few enemies with cast and crew.
If she ticks off one of the producers or writers, we might soon be seeing good 'ol Brenda as the “opening character” of the show, if ya knows whats I mean…
Me too on liking the rabbi (Ari?). She’s got a serene, downy look about her, and a melodic voice. Nate seemingly has the enviable power to seduce any woman, he’s thinking about converting, and he’s been exploring his spirituality throughout the run of the show, even more now that he’s sick. I think she is being set up as a love interest. Yippee!
I just explored ‘The Wake’ on the HBO website and I have confirmation: her name is Ari. Pretty slick little site.
Looked more to me like Keith weas beating up on some perp - letting his anger affect his job performance sort-of plotline.
Did anyone watch the show a 2nd time and notice that the hot dog was missing from the roommate’s plate? I was meaning to rewatch it again and see if they gave that hint away in the opening scene…
And I still think something very bad is going to happen to the Lily Taylor character and her baby…
I just watched it again, and it was NOT David that Keith was beating up.
I think it’s probably some nameless perp that he goes off on. He’ll probaby get i big trouble for it.
He’s been having some anger management problems, ever since shooting that kid in the street. Did we know before that his father was abusive?
And Brenda. What a skank. Eewwwww. She’s never done it in her home before, in the bed she and Nate share. I think she’s hit rock bottom. Eewwwwww.
And that rabbi. I think she has a little crush on Nate. What was with her flimsy excuse about being in the neighborhood, or um, “nearby”? And inviting herself in for a drink? Dooku, why do you think something bad is going to happen to Lili Taylor and the baby?
[Corey]“That’ll NEVER be me That’ll NEVER be me…noooooooooo!! SEX!!! NO!!”[/Corey] I love that scene.
Kinsey - I just think that Lily Taylor would not be added as a regular cast member, so they will need to resolve her several guest shows arc sooner rather than later, and she’s a little screwy anyway - plus she’d be a good ghost for Nate to talk to all the time…
BTW, has anyone noticed that the actor that plays Nikolai was the bad Russian guy in Raw Deal? “You did not make it Victor!!”
Eep! I missed it on Sunday. (Missed Queer as Folk, too…gasp!)
Brenda did a stoner? Any fan sites have pics of the guy?
I’ve written a song about this show. I will perform it for you now. Imagine it to the tune of Green Acres.
Maestro, if you please…
*o/` Six Feet Under is the show I trust
every week to see who bites the dust.
But the characters cause me to scream!
Someone please replace that damn writing team!
Brenda is such a skanky slut!
She needs to have her bleep sewn shut!
Flerging with five strangers in a row…
darling, he loves you but out on the street you’ll go!
Ruth is Mommy Dearest, truth to tell.
She deals her children loving hell.
Alone and insecure and floundering,
Turning to pop psych babble for comforting.
David, please speak up and grow a spine!
Saying “yes, dear” isn’t near divine!
Keith and you both need to go away…
a shame since the reason I’m watching was that they’re gay!
Doo-doo-dadoo-doo!
Dead folks!
Doo-doo-dadoo-doo!
Dead jokes!
Doo-doo-dadoo-doo!
Dead dad!
Doo-doo-dadoo-doo!
Dead flat…
You make me feel
like I will be ill.
6FU, I hate youuuuu…o/`*
What hurts is that I liked this show a lot at the beginning of the season, and continued to like it until Brenda became an unpaid whore and David and Keith became the Gay Lockhorns.
That’s exactly where I think they’re going with the Nate/Brenda/Rabbi thing. But I don’t think the show can afford to get rid of Brenda. She is a very compelling character. So maybe this season ends with Nate & Brenda split up and Nate going to the rabbi for comfort. Then next season we see Nate and Brenda trying to get back together.
