Six Feet Under - Spoilers

God I hope Brenda has a full tank of gas to take her as far away as possible

Yeah, I don’t think she’ll be coming back next season.

Can someone fill me in (with detail) of what has gone on in the past 3 weeks, I haven’t been able to catch the episodes lately.

I’d like to join you in waving farewell to Brenda. Nothing against Rachel Griffiths, who I think portrays her well, it’s just a character I cannot stand.

He should get with Lisa.

Or you could just look for an episode guide, or try the OS.

HBO.com has a pretty good episode guide without spoilers.

My oh my. Hooray for Nate.

No hoorays, OTOH, for David.

Who else thought

At the end, when the bus pulled over for Nate: "That’s the bus that hit Nate Sr.?

No way. They do have a baby together and Ruth really likes her, but Nate has a history of bedding psychobetties. You know that Lisa’s about half a bubble off level. I’m not saying that she’s anywhere near as messed up as Brenda.

And Hooray for Rico too.

I think Claire will get into the Art school.

Yeah, I’m thinking Claire will get into the art school and her friend is now at the community college.
How funny was her fantasy interview ala “Flashdance”?

I can’t imagine that Brenda is gone for good. Rachel Griffiths won a Golden Globe; I doubt she’d leave the show. I think she’s gone to look for Billy, and to try and straighten out her screwed-up head.

I loved the smug smile on Rico’s face when they agreed to take his money in exchange for 25% of the business. Rico is so cute. I wish they’d make his wife more likeable. She comes off a a shrew.

I missed part of the exchange between Nate and his doctor. I saw the beginning of it where he he was supposed to go back and get the medication increased if the seizures continued but I guess he never did. Then my daughter interrupted me.
What else did the doctor tell him? Why did he have to have surgery so suddenly? Does he have an aneurysm?

When Ruth quit and Nicholai gave her money, my husband said, “I bet he gave her about $50.”
What was it, $62? That was so funny.

I can’t believe they’re leaving us hanging the way they did.
I thought for sure Nate, Sr. would be driving the bus and would say something like, “Are you getting on? It’s your choice” and that would be the end. Weird with the bus being empty.

It seemed that everything the doctor said NOW contradicted what he had said before (and we had seen that conversation in the “previously on Six Feet Under. . .” section that began the show. For example, in the “previously” part the doctor said the problem was in a non-critical area of the brain; now, all of a sudden, it’s in a critical area! When Nate said “But you said. . .” the doctor said “You must not have been listening.” And there was also mis-communication about the medication and seizures. So now there is supposed to be bleeding in the brain and that’s why the surgery was needed right away. (But with the way this doctor was now contradicting himself I think Nate should have run, not walked, to a different specialist for a second opinion.

I’m not sure why Brenda left, but I do think she’ll be back. And I don’t think Nate will die in surgery. (Loved the empty bus ending!)

Nobody has commented on the Keith/David fight! I was really frightened for David when Keith began shoving him around, but I think this was what these two needed. And their satisfied faces when lying side by side seemed to bear that out.

Poor Ruth seems to really be falling apart! I’m worried about her connection to this new baby! And I wish she’d do something about her hair. But it was encouraging to see the whole family united at the end.

I was kinda dissapointed by the whole Kieth/David anger/passion routine. Did they get anything settled? Will Kieth bring David a Happy Meal the next time he goes for food?

Well…have to admit that I was a tad disappointed in the SFU season ender, although there were parts that I really enjoyed.

Loved the Claire scenes–her fantasy interview sequence was great, although my daughter was disturbed when she pulled off her leg! LOL I too think that Claire will get into the art school. The scenes with Claire and David getting high were kinda neat too; we haven’t been treated to much interaction between the two siblings, and it was good to see David unwind a bit… but did you see that even high he noticed the dust bunnies under the bed?! LOL!!

Nate seemed to be tying up any and all loose ends in anticipation of the surgery. Argh, that doctor!! WTH was/is up with him?! I really wish that Nate had gotten a second opinion back in the beginning, and even more so now that he’s decided to have the surgery. Lisa does seem a bit out there, but not as far out as Brenda, although maybe in a different way…I kinda get the impression that she could be psycho-obsessed very easily.

Brenda…I’m not sure what to make of her packing up and taking off at the end there. Maybe she is going to “find” herself, or maybe make things better with her brother (although their relationship seems to be fairly warped almost beyond belief to me at least). At least she did seem to be admitting that she had a serious problem. LOL Couldn’t believe she ran into that guy at the group meeting!

Keith was plucking at my last nerve last night! I understand that he’s had a lot on his plate and has been through the wringer, but boy he was making me want to smack him. LOL Was afraid when David finally stood up to him…and when they fell to the floor, I knew what would happen next! LOL Yikes, both of them were kinda scratched up too!!

At first, I thought that the Dad would be driving that bus, but when Nate walked up to it and there was no-one on it, I didn’t want Nate to get on the bus!

Gah, when does the next season start now?! LOL Now I can’t wait to find out what will happen! Think we have to wait quite a while (next March maybe again?), but at least it won’t be as long as we’ve waited for the Sopranos, eh?

I got so teary during the Nate scenes, especially the one on the couch with Ruth. Ish, I’m getting choked up now. When she said, “There were so many months when I could have loved you better!” I totally lost it. And seeing him shaved and vulnerable at the end was terrifying. How can you could backwards from ten knowing it might be the last thing you do? In fact, the opening scene was pretty wrenching too, with Nate and Aaron taking his last tortured breath. Gah.

I wasn’t afraid for David – he could take Keith (ha ha) in a physical altercation. And hey, he shoved Keith first. They’re both such emotional sidesteppers, it was bound to come out like that. But I really do think they love each other.

The “Flashdance” scene was hilarious. “Oh, fuck!” I think Claire’s breakdown might have been a good thing for the interview. At the party later, I totally expected her to run into the counselor there and have a moment.

Brenda…I don’t know. I can see Ruth trying to push Nate and Lisa together since she’ll likely be taking care of Nate during his (hopeful) recuperation, and will have Maya around as well. But I don’t see that really working out…Brenda will turn back up.

The Rico thing – I loved it. I’m glad they included scenes from Rico and Mr. Fisher’s early relationship, because I think Mr. Fisher was truly a mentor and fatherly figure to Rico, so the partnership is fitting. There’s gonna be some friction for sure – especially with David, you can see the incident with Rico’s cousin coming back up in some way.

I thought the season finale was one of the better shows of the season. It seemed tighter and more reminiscent of the first season - probably because the focus was once again on the immediate family. Maybe the writers are planning to focus more on the family again for the third season. Notice that Taylor’s gone so that story line is over. Claire’s counselor is history. Brenda drove away (although I am thinking that she will be back) but her family has not been featured as much lately. Nikolai’s role has become smaller as well, and thankfully that whole cult thing with Ruth has dissapeared. Krohner’s supposedly kaput - another story line with supporting characters gone. Anyone else see a trend here?

Rachael Griffiths is signed on for the third season, so she’ll be back. Also, the skinny is the rest of the cast is also back – at least the core cast.
I loved the scene with David and Nate and the preneed stuff. “What, Father Jack isn’t doing your service?” and David says “I didn’t want to give him the wrong idea.” Nate says, “When you’re dead?” and David says, “I don’t want him cruising me in the afterlife.” I just about died. Then this moment of exquisite vulnerability, with Nate saying “I wish you could go with me” – and he’s not talking about the hospital.
And the scene with Nate and Ruth where Ruth is saying “I’ll never let you go,” I bawled like a baby.
I think the next SFU season starts in January 2003, and that is one long wait. I’m going to cancel my HBO until then-- just can’t afford it right now.

There isn’t a chance in hell that the show would drop Brenda right now.

I’m one of the few Brenda fans. She’s an interesting character. I like her despite a few minor flaws :D.

I was wondering if someone could clear this up for me, as I must have missed something along the way:

Who was the guy that Brenda ran into at the meeting?

I like Brenda, too. She is a very complicated character. That’s not to say I don’t want to slap her!

That was a guy she met at a bar while waiting for Nate one night for dinner. She flirted with him and I think he gave her his card. While she and Nate were having dinner, she kept loking over at him, and he waved at her as he left. Nate asked about him and she said it was someone she knew or a client (or something like that, I forget exactly).
A few episodes later she had a fantasy about him, only we (the viewers) thought it was real at first.

The guy at the meeting was David Axelrod–the guy she met in the restaurant bar while waiting for Nate to show up. IIRC, they never had sex or fooled around but she took his card and gave him a fake name which I can’t remember right now. He was played, btw, by Grant Show, my one-time major heartthrob from Melrose Place.
