Back from lunching. The babies were so very well-behaved! And it was nice the be able to split the commute instead of driving all the way to my mom’s. Guess I should do my laundry now…
Nappage has been completed and am contemplating an early evening meal (making my Monthly 5-Guys run). Did confirm that my Ali-bama tax return was accepted, the site say 8-10 weeks on the refund (they are not in a big hurry here to return your money).
Sunny, hope the housing works out and not to your disadvantage.
Looks like everybody else is out and about in the MMP.
Learned 2 interesting things at lunch.
First, sadly, a former neighbor of ours has Alzheimer’s. She’s 81, widowed, and living along, altho 2 of her children are close enough to check on her and help her out. They’ve arranged for someone to go over there twice a week to clean and cook and generally help out. They’ve taken her car away, too. I guess they’ve got to decide what to do when she can no longer live alone. So sad.
Second, from a cousin who was digging into our family tree. I’d known that my maternal grandfather’s father committed suicide, but we were under the impression he was distraught after his wife died. Turns out he hanged himself in prison, where he was serving a sentence for murder! That’s quite a skeleton to find in the closet.
Red–that’s a nice job of triangulating! At one point I’m less than one km E/NE of the Huntsville city limit, about 3 km N of US-72, and 1 km W of Flint River. I suspect the reasons I can’t scan any stations to the North with either indoor OTA antenna have to do with “Mount Carmel” between my place and Winchester Road, and maybe the “Highland Rim” 15 km North from there, but I’m not sure.
Update: At 1310 today my Tivo box suddenly came back to life. I wouldn’t have noticed, as I had the OTA feed sourced at the time, but out of nowhere the clock display appeared on the Tivo. I wonder how they pulled that off… I’d be curious to compare the list of active and inactive “platform objects” and “system objects” as they exist now with the list I snagged on Thursday, and may try to do that if the box craps out again. My suspicion is that Tivo (or Mediacom) has been pushing non-volatile RAM updates for several years now, and they finally overflowed the storage capacity last Monday evening, resulting in a bad installation. Then they figured out a way, using SNMP, to flush a bunch of old updates and maybe do some other things before pushing a more recent system software load and triggering the proper object activations remotely. (That’s just a guess, by the way.) Whatever, I’m not fooling with it unless it starts acting like a brick again.
Of course, Mediacom emailed to tell me my “new” Tivo had been shipped a couple of days ago.
Now I have less than two hours to go and put some lead and FMJ on target at the nearest indoor shooting range!
Not out and about, in and trying to get stuff done.
I made a pork roast with cabbage and onion, as well as a big pot of ground beef with onions and tomatoes. Enough food to feed me for 3-4 days.
We had a few hot dog rolls so I made my son some long skinny hamburgers.
I’ve vacuumed but no mopping yet. Cleaned the bathroom except for the tub, that is for my son to do. He’s younger and more flexible. Cleaned out the fridge a day early. Packed up some mre clothes to take to BFF2, and am getting ready to pack up some more books for the grandson of BFF1. Rearranged some stuff in the kitchen so I have more counter space for the dishes to dry. What a pain in the ass it is. I had just gotten rid of my dish drainer because I never used it. I have drying mats, which I like better and were good enough for what little hand washing I do. However, they take up a lot of counter space, and if I had my way there would be nothing on my counter tops.
I put some non-slip things under the bed. I have some non-slip tape to put under the rug in the living room. I also need to pull the couch out and put the table behind it. I think, still not sure. It has come in pretty handy in the middle of the kitchen since I put everything from under the sink on it.
I put some drain cleaner down the powder room drain, and I’m getting some root-x to flush. So far, the flooding has stopped.
I decided that before I call a repairman for the dishwasher, we should unhook the hose from under the sink and pour some CLR down it. If that doesn’t work, then we’ll take off the front panel and unhook the hose from both ends and see if it is clogged.
If that doesn’t work, then we’ll call the repairman.
Ugh Sunny, I hate moving, I feel for you.
I hope your side stops hurting MetalMouse.
Worked, came home, time for hockey.
Or she thinks she’s a Basset Hound.
Moooommmmmm: secretly not so nice?
Mrs. L.A. examined the jar of cioppino sauce, but I’d already thawed meat for aspara nikumaki. So we’ll have the nikumaki tonight, and I’ll get some seafood for the soup tomorrow.
Long day and shaping up to a long weekend. I may be glad to get back to Da Jungle Moanday and rest up.
The dogs are happily chewing their bully sticks. The older one tried to “bury” his in box of papers. Poor guy. He’s decided that he’d rather just chew it, so that works.
We’re going to a movie tonight, so that will be dinner. Popcorn!
Howdy Y’all! We accomplished all major tasks and had N.O.L. at Waffle House bein’ as it is near the haircut place and thus was on our way back to da cave. Sloth and nappage then ensued. Sup was forage as sustenance was desired. Chikin 'n dumplin’s shall be N.O.L. and sup for tomorrow along with some sort of vegetative matter. I made the chikin ‘n dumplin’s late this afternoon so just a matter of heatin’ it up tomorrow. So I have both productive and slothful today. Go Me!
MOOOOOOM Yikes! What a thing to find out!
Sunny good luck with the move. I have decided that I want my next move to be to the Columbarium at the church house. Twenty-three years in da cave now and I am happy to stay right here.
**Happy birthday, Nuts! **(A day late… sorry!)
Did my taxes. This was probably the first year in my adult life that I wasn’t considered to be so poor that I got tons of credits and a lot of money back. I spent so much of my adult life waitressing/bartending, as a student, even as a bank teller… but none of those jobs really paid much. Now I’m finally working a professional job, making some ok money.
I estimated our deductions pretty closely, though. Didn’t need to pay anything and am getting a small return back.
Congrats, Juliet! My goal was always to be within $100 of what I owed. I didn’t want a huge bill, and I’d rather have my money during the year than a big refund at tax time. Now with the business, I don’t even try to do our taxes. We just send everything to the accountant. It’s definitely worth it.
I’m about to crawl back to bed. I’s tahred…
sunny, you must be more into moving than I am. At least, you’ve recently pared down belongings and maybe even not unpacked some stuff, so it may not be as difficult as the last move.
Mooooom, one of the things I’ve learned about researching the family bloodlines is to never be shocked by them.
We packaged two pallets of diapers today, then I stopped on the way home to pick up the stuff from Kroger that I didn’t get yeaterday. some craft foam and shopped a bit at Tuesday Morning. Supper was a dragon roll from the mall’s sushi bar. Now it’s time to chill.
Well done, Juliet. Just found out my Federal refund (which is a pretty good-sized chunk of change) will be credited to my account on the 21st. Since I just filed it last week, that’s either pretty fast or the IRS is so behind they just let it go as is.
Sunny, popcorn (and probably soda) will cost you nearly as much as a dinner out. IMHO, theaters make most of their profit on hungry movie customers. Even airports don’t gouge you like movie houses do.
Johnny, I had to google ‘aspara nikumaki’. Sounds interesting.

Five Guys it was for dinner, and I got a medium fries (which is enough for 2-3 people normally), but I find their fries to be even better than their burgers, so I added another layer of cholesterol to my arteries. Such is life.
Good news is that it will be in the 60’s tomorrow (41F now). Bad news it’s supposed to rain all day.
All y’all have a good night.
A friend had a Newfie named Mr King; 180+ pounds of the smartest kind of animal out there. The first time I was over his house, sitting in a dining-room chair, the dog walked over and put his head across my leg. He was drooling a little but who cares? I just reached out and started scratching his head. He sort of looked at me with this “OK” kind of look, walked over to his water dish, loaded up ----- walked back, put his head back where it was, and I swear to God he looked up and grinned as all this slobber was running down my leg. My friend yelled “King!!! NO!!!” I just reached down and continued scratching and told him it was OK; the kinds of places I hang out it isn’t like I haven’t had worse than dog drool on my pants. Me and Mr King were best buddies from that point on. When he passed I think I grieved as much as my friend and his family did.
The joys pets bring to us even when they aren’t ours.
Hm. Should’ve sounded tasty.
I cheated and just used teriyaki for marinade. I made the dipping sauce/salad dressing from mayonnaise, soy sauce, rice vinegar, mirin, sesame oil, and sesame seeds. The salad was a bagged Spring mix, and I made white rice finished off with a little mirin.
sunny, I never want to see popcorn again, after having to pop 2000+lbs of the stuff one week.
I do hope you are leaving the Haunted Stove behind for the move!
well might possibly survive the weekend as nephew went home and moms off Monday so he wont be here at 6 am ……. if at all
Today got crap from a certain someone and gave it back ……the decision I get to make Tuesday is going to be rather easy once I get confirmation on something

Close but I’m tired so I’ll just say goodnight all.
Saw a movie today. First time in a couple of years. They don’t have a system of babysitters here in taiwan so fewer date nights.
It was Green Book. Enjoyed it.
