Looks kinda pretty, Johnnyducks from icicle hurled at head
Sari, hope it’s not the mice again. Flood in basement sounds like a concern, though.
Heading up to see little brother next week, travel Moanday, there Tuesday and Wednesday, back on Thorsday. That should give me enough time to (1) ascertain just how he is doing and (2) irritate him sufficiently to keep his blood moving. Weather is looking OK for the drive.
I have a pain in my side, just below the ribs on the right side of my body. Doesn’t show any bruises and the pain only occurs when I stretch (or cough) or press on it, but it is bothersome. If it continues next week I’ll have the Doctor take a look and see if it’s anything worth worrying about.
Flipper, hope they don’t hit you with extra charges for the overdraft.
Got a small space heater for my computer room, since it’s usually 10F cooler than the rest of the house. It works good, putting out a lot of warm air right now (I set it to 82F). Already paid my electric bill for the month so no problem.
Laundry gets done tomorrow, especially since rain is in the forecast for Firday.
Uh-oh. That’s bad…really bad. I suggest immediate amputation…at the neck.
Iffn you follow my advice, you absolutely won’t have any more pain in that area.
I hate anxiety disorders. It just really adds to the overhead of doing anything. Even simple tasks just become more complex because of all the anxiety attacks to do them. Grrrr.
Mornin’ all. Got a complicated weekend here- going straight from placement type irk to Oop North for a friend’s 50th (also my birthday) weekend party thingy, which will be around 5 hours drive, picking up another friend on the way. I’ll be there until Sunday, then giving friend a lift back again.
Dunno yet if I’m staying at hers or coming back here Sunday night- staying at hers would mean cutting two hours of driving out in total, but means a 2 hour drive to the placement on Moanday. They don’t mind if I come in late, so that may be the better option.
Hopefully it’ll be a nice enough weekend to make up for the driving, and hopefully my car (which was making slightly concerning noises yesterday) will survive. It all seemed like a good idea when I was arranging it end of last year…
At least the weather here’s been pretty mild and actually rather nice, for once.
Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 45 Amurrkin out and dark (TWPTB say cloudy) with a predicted high of 72 and cloudy for the day. We might or might not get some rain sometime in the next few days. TWPTB are all willy-nilly with forecasts. This mornin’ I shall head over to the church house to do some JW things and take care of candle duty. Someone is supposed to be there to learn the ins and outs of candle duty as well. Need to get a couple folks trained to do that so we can set up a rotation schedule. Whilst out and about I shall procure a few things from :eek:Wally Jr..
Flipper sucks about the account bein’ overdrawn. Hope they didn’t hit ya with any real big fees. I overdrew on a bank account once many years ago cause I’m not real good with math. Bank was nice about it and didn’t charge me an overdraft fee.
All y’all with snow, all I can say is better thee than me.
Now I need more caffeine and to feed rumbly tummy. Then, alas and alack, I must purtify and don attire appropriate for bein’ about the public. Life is so hard!
As if anyone cares, now I have an email from Mediacom telling me that the “new” replacement Tivo box has been shipped and I should get it shortly. Of course they mentioned that I should store it securely until the tech arrives a week from today… or that I can, if I want to mess with it, try to install it myself.
Oh, yes, and they helpfully tell me that the new box is already configured precisely as is the now-bricked Tivo box. (What, it has information about my PIN code, and the blocks I already had set up against the Netflix subscription and the utterly execrable porn, shopping, “family”, cartoon, and comedy channels, STARZ, HBO, Showtime, MSNBC, CNN, local channels I hate, and all the rest? Bull-crap. New vistas in entertainment on the way, I guess.)
Yes, I get 15-18 channels over-the-air with just an indoor HD antenna, and I have the Hulu subscription, but Mediacom will likely cut my Internet bandwidth significantly if I simply tell them to cancel the entire television thing. Not to mention, there go the MLB and SEC channels. Just by the way, why do they require me to buy Tivo service just to get most of the actual (?) HDTV tiers?
It’s a cloudy 46 degrees, supposed to get up to 57.
I hope that is enough to melt the rest of the snow.
I woke at 4 this morning, and never got back to sleep.
I see a nap after irk.
Then back down to see what is going on in the basement.
I wonder if the plumbing/heating/AC people can fix dishwashers too?
I don’t have time for this shit.
Good morning! Roxstar seems to like the 2-3AM time frame for yelling. At least this time, I fell back to sleep. She’s now yelling for attention, so I’ll join her in the cage shortly.
**FCD **is at a meeting, daughter is about to go downstairs to work and SIL (surprise) is sleeping… or playing video games… yeah. I shall be on grandmother duty today.
I’m sorry but you have to understand that I grew up in the mountains in the 60s but -------- snow? Hell, man; anything under an inch an hour is flurries at best.
I have had more news about my sister, the one stuck in Colorado with a broken hip. Oroginally it had been thought she would be released yesterday, but that is not happening. She had had trouble with pain management and a low hemoglobin level, and had to have blood for the latter. I am worried for her. Just now, if it was not snowing, I would say to hell with work and drive on out there, to give my BIL a break, and her some more family. We did have a couple of cousins that were there to ski with them who have visited though.
We live at sea level. The Prius has traction control. If a wheel slips, it shuts down power to it. If both wheels slip, it shuts down power to both of them. I’ve been applying the accelerator, and the car is not moving and completely silent. The Prius does not like snow or ice – and they tend to plow the street the first day of snow, and then forget about it. I telecommute most days, but I do go to the office in Seattle twice a week. I’ve been cooped up in the house for a week. Yeah, I could drive the Jeep to the office; but right now the economy readout says my average MPG is 14.4. (It might be 19 mpg on the 230-mile round-trip.) I don’t really want to spend $60 to go to the office two days.
Fortunately, there was little accumulation last night. It looks slushy, so it’s melting. It’s currently 35ºF, and may get into the 40s. Rain is forecasted.
We’re going into Dahlgren today to close on our HELOC!! YAY! In fact, we’re going early to get lunch first. So now we just need to find out when the excavator will get his butt over here and start clearing the site. Building, ho!!!
Finally figured out where the flood is coming from.
When we run water upstairs it goes down the drain and then gurgles up the drain into the basement sink, which then overflows.
I have a feeling this is going to cost lots of money.
Sari, sad to hear about the water. Hope it is not as bad as you think.
Baker, hope sister gets to doing better.
Johnny, sounds like the car limits itself. I’ll pass, I think.
Happy Birthday Nut!!
About 60F out, but rain and cooler temperatures are predicted for the afternoon. Been a busy (for me) morning, three loads of laundry, dishwashing, and various picking up of stuff that has been laying around. BLT’s consumed without the L and T.
At the end of the 70s for a while I had a beater Pinto for the one winter that was seriously bad. And a long hill on the way to work and college. Even with good studded tires there were days when it was tough; you advance at a slow walk even though the speedometer reads 40. I used the old Back Mountain Into Pringle trick and flipped around and went up in reverse. Of course I was young then and needed to get places. These days I just keep a bank of UPT (time off) and brew another pot of tea.
