Sleeping in in the MMP

Think Geek had the rocket launcher a lot cheaper last year.

I once had a dentist missing part of a finger. He was doing something particularly painful with most of his remaining fingers in my mouth. I mumbled, “You son of a bitch, did someone bite your finger off?”
I didn’t think he could understand me.

We have supped. I fried chikin in the deep fryer thingy. I like my deep fryer thingy. It does a good job fryin’ up foodstuffs. I talked with JDD to see how he’s doin’. He says he and sis are fine and told me OYKW and I are invitated to partake of some fine church lady cuisine at the Dawson Presbyterian Church after the service on Moanday. YUM!

MetalMouse I am Whiskypalian. We don’t change.

alien, you’re a good son. A parent with dementia is difficult.

metal mouse, you may be the only dad voice some of those girls hear on a regular basis. Don’t be too hard on yourself.

emily, I hope the new meds work well for you. I get my turn in the dentist chair Monday.
They fed us at irk today. Hibachi fried rice, veggies and your choice of protein. I went with the shrimp. I came home to a box from Chewy and one of the little Yorkies across the fence was out. He and Nelson rubbed noses through the fence and wagged tails while his owner and I visited. We reset the playdate at the dog park that was cancelled to rain Saturday.

I hope they work. And congrats on the good choppers.

But Is it safe?

swampy, now I have an image of Don Garlits in a little black cocktail dress.:dubious::p;)

Mooooommm I have seen that museum many times and wondered about it.

Doggiooo Why have I never seen Marathon Man? Will watch forthwith.

Roofing my building and they are loud. Poor Lucky Louie was so scared that he shall be off until roofing is complete. In other news the so called POTUS Is coming to KW tomorrow for a few hours. Our Director needed 5 people from out dept to meet him and was having trouble finding five willing participants :D.

Tahred to the bone. New Sat girl came by for a crash course and will be fabulous. I can see an end to my Saturday irking in a couple weeks at the most.

Blurf. Night all.

Today being the 18th of April I wanted to mention an accomplishment my mother has.

She’s the only person I know who can recite, in it’s entirety, “Paul Revere’s Ride” by Longfellow. That’s one heck of a long poem too. I can get not quite a third through it, but my mom hardly needs any prompting!

two hundred forty three years ago tonight.

Congrats!

I look forward to hearing all about it. Congrats on the new hire!

Getting ready for Knoebels next week and working. We’re doing another pallet change which means we get these dual-identity address labels which have a large
H-025
with something like a small
J-119
right under it. Starting tomorrow the big one doesn’t count and we have to go by the small one. Which means half the packages will have to go through the building 3-5 times each. Which means job security for me since at least 10% of the people will resign by Sunday. I’ve been through this process about 12 times already in the last 3.5 years; I’m immune.

Now if you could just get the idiot delivery drivers to resign. So far, I’ve had two packages from my favorite river get smashed in the rapids and sink to oblivion but delivery tracking has a helpful photo of how the driver tucked the packet into a security screen door, I have to contact customer service and tell them the bad news that I don’t have a security screen door. :dubious: I’ve been led to believe that the drivers who take pics of their deliveries are “gig” drivers who turn off their Lyft light when they’re tired of hauling people and drop by the distribution center when they feel like it to pick up a dozen or so deliveries.

How many stamps does that take?

Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 64 Amurrkin out and fair, which I assume means no clouds but it’s dark out so who knows, with a predicted high of 78 and mostly N.O.S. for the day. I am up early cause we went to bed early and I pulled an all nighter. That’s right, didn’t get up even once to go pee! Also, we are switchin’ up vehicles today as OYKW’s ride is due for an oil change and I shall take it in this mornin’ at seven-thirty when the oil change place opens. I’m nice like that. That shouldn’t take long. Then I get to hang around da cave until FedEx delivers my meds for which I have to sign. We shall sup upon beastloaf with mac 'n cheese left from yestiddy and some vegetative matter, perhaps peas 'n carrots. Mostly I shall be slothful today.

{{{Midget}}} hope the new dosage helps. I take a relatively mild antidepressant which works for me so far. Also yay for good tooth doctor checkup!

Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants sustenance. Then, since I shall go about the public, I suppose I should purtify.

Happy Thursday Y’all!

Today, we drive to daughter’s place to load up the car with stuff and a cat. It’ll be my last chance to hold the baby till next month.

Then tomorrow, we’ll drive home. I am definitely ready for home.

Meanwhile, Happy Thursday!!

I arrived at the earl change place at seven-fifteen and they took the car right on in and got busy even though they are not officially open until seven-thirty. Thus I was out of there just before eight, went to the burly butcher sto’ for some stuff then back to da cave and have made up a beastloaf for tonight. Go Me and the earl change folks! Now I can relaxate and listen to the sounds of bathroom remodel.

Woke up to snow. Just a dusting, but WTH? It’s April 19, fer Pete’s sake. Irk is irk. I’m annoyed over things that I shouldn’t be so am trying to change my mindset. I haz a sad today about my late beloved Bob the Wonder Pony. It all started with listening to a Partridge Family song (don’t judge!). Midget, I also take a low dose antidepressant. Mental health is just as important as physical health.

Mooom, can you recap why roxstar was kept in the horsepittal, and why they all are coming to stay at FC Estates?

WetOne, clearly Miss RoxStar must go to Fairy Chat Estates from the earliest possible age to ensure she grows up fully understanding the importance of coasters, chocolate and being nice, dammit!

I am basking in sun and heat today, almost unknown around here after the exceptionally cold winter and dreary start to the year. Luckily we have avoided any further snow so I am happy about that. Looking forward to a bit of decent weather for a change.

An uber amount.

Might be the first Doper who wants to hear a “WOOSH”.

So are you getting the Dagobert (at almost $12,000) or the Iron Throne, with the added bonus of some of the plungers double as extra TP holders?

They are under much stricter rules than that but it can still be a crap-shoot sometimes in some places.

Basically what happens most places are certain areas/sets of deliveries are set aside for “our” vans. These are often places with very high concentration of deliveries that day and each van will get 3 or 4 “routes” (sets of 40-90 packages each; each set taking roughly 3 hours to handle). The drivers are hired by outside contract but trained and managed by us and a related logistics firm. There a bad driver can get handled and skimmed off a little faster.

The ones you refer to we call “flex”. They apply and get hired as independent contractors by us. All the routes NOT set aside for the vans (some days the majority of the routes) get tossed into a pool and its basically “first accepted, first served”. A notice goes out that we have (for example) 10 routes that will be available between 11:00 and 11:15 (no indication of where or how many packages) and they accept or ignore the routes on their SmartPhone. Sometimes like a Mumper at a buffet (or bar  ) their eyes are bigger than their stomachs and they accept more than they can handle; and you as the customer suffers. Sometimes they arrive hoping for a route in an area they like and get one on the opposite edge of town they hate – and again bad things can happen. But when bad things happen and get reported it gets filed and too many issues gets you removed from the list (and app) pretty quickly. Not as fast or as sure as the van drivers but again ----- we really are customer-centric as a company. Those Flex people are like Ninjas – they can slip unwanted packages back through our dock doors with a level of stealth the CIA couldn’t match and fudge things so it never looks like “their fault”. And like “us Associates” some get in and the turn-over rate is really high as they find out that sometimes it really is work. But considering that like 2 years ago this was still basically an idea and not a real service, we’re getting better.

You do bring out something though that is a real headache for the managers on that side of the program ---- you, as the customer, does not get to pick what kind of delivery you want ---- ours beginning to end or ours through the USPS or whoever. Most places I order from I can pick between USPS, Fed-Ex, or whatever. With us it varies but its still our choice and not yours. I get the things I order UPS, SC through USPS, or SC through AmHell and I never know which its going to be until the package is half-way here. People find this lack of choice upsetting and I know even for me it makes me a little more critical sometimes than I would otherwise be. I an NOT saying that is what you are doing but I will say that sometimes that does happen. And Customer Service knows it can happen. Somewhere is a big computer than uses some sort of program to decide how “Order X” is filled and handled; some days I want to strangle whoever programmed that computer. But again, we’re learning and things are getting better.
(Fun story -------- back in the early days when we started this I was at a friends house when he was getting a delivery from a flex driver; I was wearing my one t-shirt and hat from work. As the driver opened the screen door, I opened the inside door, grabbed the package, and said “I’ll take it from here”, and ran down the hall and out the back door ----------- leaving the driver very confused about just what the heck happened. My buddy, who owned the house, was like “Wow! You guys really are good” further confusing the driver. He related the incident when he got back and the manager had two weeks before this been my personal manager on the sort side -------- and he recognized the “fun-ish attitude and thinking”. We still have a laugh or three now and then about it when I pull shifts on that side of the building. Its one of those things everyone wants to do but I actually did. )

For some reason I am hearing that post in Rev Jim’s voice and including the word/name “Alex” and the phrase “I suppose”.

spidey, remember swampy’s in Georgia; be happy for him having indoor plumbing…`

wet one, I think roxstar was just held there as a precaution, which is a good thing. My niece was ready to leave the hospital after her birth, but a last check revealed a heart problem (blood leaking between chambers) that they caught and fixed when she was all of a week old. So getting FCGM’s first grandkid checked out throughly is something I approve of.

In honor of the OP topic’s I stayed in bed until almost 9am today. Helps when you stay up past 1am the previous night. Looks like a another warm (70’s F) day in North Ali-bama, with clean clothes and clean dishes all good to go.

Need to do a little shopping but otherwise nothing much on the schedule.

Afternoon all. Definitely no snow here today; it’s dammit where did I leave the sunscreen season.

It’s also deadline season at skool; had a test this afternoon, which admittedly wasn’t excessively stressful for me- it’s literally IDing plants with the correct scientific names, which it turns out I’m pretty decent at. I was hoping to get 100% (got 96% last time), but the answers have just been put up online, and I’ve dropped at least 5 marks, dammit. Then one deadline for a short module tomorrow (which is ready to submit, just leaving it 'til tonight in case I think of anything to add), and the big module final hand in next Thursday (aahh!), then another two final deadlines the following week (one ehhh, one AAHH!).

All in all, it’s a pretty daft time to decide to go visit a friend where I used to live this weekend, but it’s hard to reschedule birthdays…

BTW, round here, reputedly one of the posties will deliver parcels to the pub if he knows you’ll probably be in there
