Slightly delayed, my tale with a moral; this weeks MMP

HAPPY
INDEPENDENCE
DAY!!!

Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffienated here. Soon I’ll go purtify and get somebody rousted out of bed to get ready. I wanna be all loaded up and headed out by around 9:30 this mornin’. I have grill duty, which is a good thing, cause then the ribs will be grilled the right way. Plus I have been informed that it is desired I grill corn-on-the-cob which I do quite well thankyouverymuch.

The weather today should be very nice. Around 88 Amurrkin and the humidity appears to be relatively low right now but I’m bettin’ that changes cause of a chance of tstorms later today. Anywho… high 80’s is nice for here rather than the usual uper 90s to low 100s with a heat index approaching 110-115 which is more the norm.

Have a great day everybody! Talk at y’all later!

ETA: Good luck today Snakes!

Have a great day!

Jooooooooooooo is the Babylonian God of Whinnying. Should not be mistaken with:

Jo-El, Angel of Complaints (of evident Hebrew origins),
Joer, Egyptian Octopus-headed Goddess of Moms With Little Kids,
or with any euphemisms for Spanish verbs referring to what Poseidon’s bull did with Minos’ wife.
SCL, one of my “problems” with competitive situations is that, while I enjoy winning, I actually enjoy the match itself. For all I know, one of us could be the prophet, one the psychopath, one vanilla town and the fourth be that mystery role (ooooOOOooo); but in the end, you, me, Haze and Kat are all MMP gals :stuck_out_tongue: and the point of the game is to have fun!

Ok, so I was messin’ around a bit and thought about Noah aka An Arky so I went out and found his theme song. Everybody sing!

I’m up!

Hank - I keep meaning to say: sorry about bro and the outrageous phone bill. Hope he cleans up his act soon. In the meantime, can you sign up for a cheaper long distance service? The one I use charges 4.8 cents/minute to call South Korea (I assume that’s where he’s calling) and 9.9 cents if you’re calling a cell phone there. Most other countries are comparable. It used to cost me $1/minute to call Mom in Mexico and now it costs 4.8 cents - enormous difference. I’ve used this company for almost 3 years and their rates have been the same the whole time. You can use it even if you only have a cell phone, too, which is very convenient. I found them through this site which somebody linked to in a thread a while back.

Happy 4th of July everyone! (Even if it’s not a holiday where you are…)

Gotta go out to the grocery to buy stuff to take for our dinner later. Then I’m hoping to have time to work in the garden for a while before we go off to the Doo Dah Parade. (If you scroll down far enough, there’s a link to a bad video of last year’s parade…)

Hope everyone’s feeling better and more cheerful (I’m looking at you, Roo, rigs, rosie, and kai and also at whoever I forgot to mention :p).

Not sure if I’ll be back before tomorrow…

GT

Happy Independence Day!!!

rigs and haze, Wife I went to see the new Willis movie (2 thumbs up, it’s a 2 hour comic book…) then met the daughter and her friends for a drink, and started home as the storms were beginning. The bedroom has skylights, which make thunderstorms worth the price of admission.

Our cats are funny in storms. Evil Fat Scarlett just stares at us, wondering when we’ll make it stop, then runs into the basement to hide. Marty sits smack dab in the middle of the upstairs hall, which is the only place in the house that has no windows to look out of. And Cuervo sits as close to me as he can without actually merging into me.

Wife is showering, then we’re off to the Taste of Cold Pizza for a bit, before we head back to hang, and watch the local fireworks from our neighbor’s.

Nava, I used to wonder who I offended or if I had been extremely naughty in a past life. I’m used to it now and I just expect the weird and unlikely.

It’s a nice, quiet holiday morning. That’s one of the redeeming features of my neighborhood: the houses are way too small to hold parties at, so people go elsewhere. The streets are always packed, too, so there’s no place for anyone to park, either. Works for me!
**
Happy 4th!**

Up, caffeinated, busy as heck. Long weekends always keep us on our toes when we get back to work, though it’s usually the day after the holiday, not the middle of the week. But, whatever. S’all good. Okay, so…

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
Heff&Roo - I take it you tend to stay home during the raucous and explody celebrations? I usually do as well, tending just to take some pictures off my balcony to capture random fireworks, though this Canada Day was one of those times I actually got dragged out somewhere. Hopefully your neighbours won’t raise the roof too far. If they do though, a container with some potassium nitrate (saltpeter) mixed with sugar and ignited with a wick might scare 'em off[sup]*[/sup]. As for the mango, no rashes fortunately. Just stickiness. I’ll stick to the pre-cut stuff. It’s easier to handle.

Herb - One thing I notice about tarragon (the spice, not you) is that it does seem to have a lot in common with its brethren, Anise. It’s got that kind of licorice scent to it, though that seems to turn into something else once cooked in a dish. It’s nice though, I just have to watch how much I use; this was my first time cooking with it, so I’m allowed a little leeway there.

[sub]* It’s a smoke bomb. Harmless, mostly smells like burnt sugar, possibly confusing to those who don’t know where it’s coming from and might think there’s a fire nearby. :)[/sup]

Happy Fourth, everybody who celebrates it, and happy Wednesday to everyone else! I slept as late as I could, considering the guys who have been replacing some kind of underground pipe next door at the community center lot have not taken the day off, and have been running loud drills of some kind. Sounds like they’re cutting large chunks of metal, from the noise. :dubious: So they kept waking me up as I kept trying to doze. It’s better than yesterday, though, when I was awakened by a man shouting, “You just fking scared the st out of me!!” At 7:30 a.m. :dubious: Aaand a happy good morning to you, too!

We weren’t supposed to have any rain yesterday, but it started raining in the evening and rained pretty solidly through. It was just rain, too, no electrical activity of any kind so no freaked-out dog; it was lovely going to sleep listening to the rain. I love the sound of rain.

Today is going to be a very quiet day around here, since Papa Tigs is still feeling pretty awful. He’s napping on the couch right now, as a matter of fact, and I’m trying to keep the dogs from waking him up – as he said, Rusty’s tongue on his hand makes an excellent alarm clock! But all of you who are going out to picnic and watch big things go boom!, enjoy the day; and those of you who are staying home like us and spending a nice, quiet day, enjoy it, too. One of these years I need to go back down to the Mall for all the music and fireworks and such, but definitely not this year; none of us has the energy.

You do have an interesting life, Jahdra. I always enjoy hearing about it – nothing in my life can approach it!

Sending good thoughts SCL’s way. I should have gotten FSM sent out in time to lend His Noodly Appendages to her show, but with Papa Tigs in such a mess and me being so behind on my work as a result, I haven’t gotten much of anything done. Anyway, I’m looking forward to hearing about all the gobs of lovely lucre she brings home!!

I wish I had 1/4 of Mooooom’s energy, too. I long ago accepted, however, that I am a low-energy person; I go through spells of being more active, but my natural state is in a recliner with my feet up.

Okay, time to do something more constructive. Like make another pot of coffee.

Howdy, all! I actually slept in this morning - till 6:15!!! I’ve have slept longer, but I was being smacked in the face by a cat. Her kibble bowl was empty. Still, dang, I slept in!

We had a really lousy breakfast at our local IHop. Never again. That place continues to suck. Then we ran by the boat to find our fids and empty the bilge - we’ve got a leaky water tank, apparently. Now we’re home installing doors. I’ve put in 2 passage sets and I’m waiting on **FCD ** to finish the last 4 doors. Then I’ll redo the cushion from hell.

It’s getting warm - I may actually have to close the house and turn on the air. At least I can.

Happy and safe 4th to all my fellow citizens, and happy Wednesday to the rest of ya!!

Still haven’t had any peanut brittle.

Just cut up a bunch of chicken and mixed up a batch of yogurt marinade. I’m gonna wait till later to actually mix stuff up because I’m not sure how Local Best Friend’s tummy is doing. At last report, she’d developed a revulsion to potatoes, which are normally one of her very favorite foods. Ahhh, pregnancy must be fun.

Thinking good thoughts for SCL’s sale and for Papa Tigs too. Gotta get ready and then it’s off to the parade…

I got wings last night. We had one call, for a girl who was riding an ATV, hit a ditch, and flipped it top of her. Broken wrist, facial injuries, possible concussion, and quite loopy whe we got there. Da chief decided to fly her to the trauma center just in case the head problems were more than we knew.

We patched her up, boarded her, and took her to the Hooterville fire station because they have a handy field to use as an LZ. The flight crew came, and the needed one of us to help load her. The chief says, "Black Belt Bob goes…’’.

I got the ten second brief: "Stay on the pilot’s side, watch the rotors, go out the way we came, and if you twist your ankle, stay there. " Otherwise, it was uneventful and the same as loading into the ambulance.

When I got back to the ambulance, they handed me a little pin and started with the ‘virgin no more’ jokes.

I got home about 0630, 'cuz I slept through the end of the shift. Went to bed again, and go up around 1030.

Envy me. I’m shampooing carpet today.

People do seem awfully cranky in the Cult game this time around. And way too analytical. Seriously, I just want to have fun playing.

gt, thanks for the link! And the good wishes. I think we’re just going to let him figure this one out for himself - he’s going to have to suspend his account until he can find a way to pay off the bill. He’s being all pissy with me now because I yelled at him yesterday, but I don’t care. His utter lack of shame at his irresponsibility exasperates me.

Happy 4th, everyone!

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!!!

Bobbio, that was a great OP!

Hugs to those of you with woes and hugs to the rest of you in general, just 'cause.

Haze, a very good friend of mine met his wife through on-line dating. They met, they dated for a long while, they moved in together for a long while, and they finally got married last fall. Also, my middle sister met her husband through on-line dating. Same thing happened with them. So, it can turn out well, even though we were all skeptical in the beginning.

Rigs, I’m sorry you’re not doing as well as you should be.

It’s already getting hot here. Soon, I’m going to have to put the taters and aigs on for the tater salad. I should have done that when I got up this morning. However, I wanted to catch up here first.

We’re just going to grill some burgers and brats and have some tater salad. I don’t know if we’ll actually buy fireworks. If not, it isn’t any big deal.

I have to work tomorrow, but I’m off Friday. Well, I could have taken tomorrow off, but, I’ve got stuff that needs doing, so I won’t burn a day of leave. I did take 59 minutes yesterday though.

My yougest sister is getting married on Sep 28th and she’s moving to Ft Detrick, MD to be with her new hubby. SNIFF I don’t want her to move, but then again, I am so happy that she’s finally found someone that makes her this happy.

It’s odd…some of us must be on the same wavelength. I was thinking about Bumba the other day. I even searched on-line to see if his store had a website yet. I couldn’t find a specific website, but I did find links about his business. He does make wonderful smelling soaps and lotions and I’m all out of them now.

I guess I should take a shower or something before the day completely slips away from me.

**Mindfield **-- somebody had seriously too much time on their hands! :stuck_out_tongue:
(beautiful flag :))

**Haze **-- some serious thoughts for a change  – maybe you should look into getting Skype or some similar for your bro (and grounding his cell phone from making int’l calls for a bit…) – it’s free for Skype-to-Skype calls (so you’d need your parents, e.g., to install Skype at their end as well), but you can also call many land-lines for relatively low rates.

And – about dating and dating services; don’t get too worked up about it quite yet. For one thing, they’re all like a bad brand of Raisin Bran – there’s some good fruit in there, but it’s kind of hard to find amongst all the flakes. And… you’re not about to become an Old Maid quite yet; if it works out, fine. If not, I’m sure you’ll find yourself awash with eager suitors just floating around in your natural environment. Be choosy; have fun; don’t worry about it so much!

**SCL **-- Crossing appendages. When you get back here, tell us how the fair went!

**BBBobbio **-- great stories as usual.

Me, I spent all of my afternoon at the hospital, where my mother has (yet again) found herself. I think things are not that great when they do a Lung Scan and they’re hoping to find a Pulmonary Embolism
Relatively good news is that that’s exactly what they found, the *even better *news is that it was an embolism, that apparently dislodged itself without intervention (and my mother has in fact been breathing better for the past few days, even before she had her appointment with the Space-Age Equipment this morning) – so we’re hoping for the best in that department.
Of course there’s some other stuff as well, but I’d rather not go into **too **depressing stuff on everybody’s holiday. Y’all enjoy it!

Eh. I woke up very painfully at 8:30 this morning, and it hurt just getting up, but I took some drugs and now it’s much better (although I get twinges when I move too quickly). Guess that’s what I get for falling asleep on the couch without taking a pain pill after dinner.

I’m hungry, but I don’t know what I want to eat. I’m tired of pudding and peanut butter sandwiches, and I’m all out of applesauce, and I’m not up to putting in enough effort to actually cook anything substantial.

Three doors hung, three awaiting touch-up paint, so they may not go up till tomorrow or the next day. We’re taking a break now and, alas, the house is closed up. Temp and humidity going up - ick.

I need lunch - dang - it’s almost 2!! Where’s the lunch fairy??? sheesh

MamaT–these muscle cramps of his–might they be caused by electrolyet imbalance? Ask the doctor when you’re there again. Hope he gets better.

Nava–how’s the cold?

I just foraged for food. The woods were full of strange beasts, all in red, white and blue, all circling charcoal briquets and corn on the cob. I made it home without meeting a predator. Phew.

Tis hot, humid and nasty out today. AC is ON. I am not going to any fireworks tonight, as I am turning in early. I finally got to sleep about 0400. WTH?

The semi-local golf course cancelled the fireworks tonight–something about the village didn’t have funding. They didn’t plan ahead or something–they’ve been doing the fireworks for the past 10 years.

I bought steak for the grill. It only cost a leg.

The muscle spasms are in three locations all feeding down from the pinched nerve in his neck, rigs; they’ve stayed in the same locations for several days now. They’re not just cramps, but actual spasms ranging in size from about an inch across to the big one on his tricep that’s probably two inches across when it’s particularly aggravated (like after he drives home from work). That was a good suggestion, but he’s very good about proper electrolytes, having lived in the tropics for years without air conditioning, so I really doubt that would be an issue.

We had to shut up the house and turn on the AC, too. Which is a shame; I was enjoying the fresh air. But I get tired of sitting at my desk sweating, too. :frowning: It’s no hotter than it was yesterday, but the humidity is about double, which certainly makes a difference!

I guess we should be glad? :dubious: that your mom “only” had a lung embolism that cleared itself up, Special One. Oy.

Well, actually, yes… the other options were all worse.
Not that it’s going to matter in the long run. If she’s with us a year from now I think it will be a miracle. :frowning: Such is life I guess.
