Sorry to hear about your mom, Special1.
Off to maybe eat lunch-I am not hungry (and how odd is that?).
Congrats on the wings, VB!

Shower has been taken, hair dried, and put up. It’s HAWT here.
Next, I need to tackle the kitchen, taters, and eggs.
A friend of ours called awhile ago and was sort of hinting around about going out on the lake. We told him it was just going to be too crowded out there for it to be enjoyable.
Did I tell you folks we actually got pulled over for a vessel inspection on Saturday?
That’s the first time in the three years we’ve owned this boat that we’ve had that happen. We were good to go: Coast Guard approved flotation devices/life jackets with enough for everybody on board, check; fire extinguisher, check; up to date registration, check; flares…um, I know we had them, where did they go?, not a check; we got a warning ticket though because the vessel letters and numbers were black. Since the part of the boat these stickers are on are blue, they don’t stand out real well. I tried telling my husband this was a no-no, but he didn’t listen. Now, we have to peel these off, and put light gray or white letters and numbers there. He doesn’t want to do it, but I don’t want a ticket or, worse, to be told get off the lake. The cops had already kicked the one boat off. I don’t know why, but we saw them getting cited, and the next thing we knew, they were trailering their boat. We only noticed that because we had swung around back to the dock to pick up a neighbor.
At any rate, I stood right up on the wakeboard. I was damn surprised because I hadn’t done it since last summer. I didn’t stay up long. The boot for my back leg wasn’t adjusted right, and I couldn’t control the board. The first time, the rope slipped out of my hand when I went to switch to a one-handed grip. The second time, I just couldn’t control the board and sailed out across the wake and took a header into the water. I flew right out of the boots on the board. I’m sure I looked quite comical.
Sigh, much as I don’t want to, I guess I should tackle the taters, eggs, and kitchen.
Hope everyone is having a good day and that those of you who aren’t feeling well are improving.

The cold is still in good health, but I’m getting better My boss thinks it’s hilarious that I got this mini blackboard to write in when my throat hurts. Today after a bout of coughing I heard a coworker tell another “hot damn, it must not be serious since she’s still alive, but she sure sounds bad!” These people are strange… a coworker was coughing this bad a couple weeks ago and when I told him “are you sure you shouldn’t be at home?” I was told it is not polite to ask. AaaaaAH. OK, so if next week everybody is coughing till they can’t breathe, it’s not polite to say it’s my fault, right?
You know me far too well! (thanks! :))
Get better fast, before the weekend comes along and you can’t derive any benefits from being ill… [Dark Chocolate]Nava[/Dark Chocolate]
I sorted the stacks of paper that have been accumulating around here, tossed out a lot, filed a lot, and left out the application for the craft show in Sept. I need to get it in the mail by Aug 1. At least this time, I don’t have to make anything if I don’t want to. However, I do want to make monsters, so I guess I’ll be busy after my kid goes back to FL.
Critters have been fed, and I thawed some chili for my sweetie. I’ll probably go back to the basement and slap a little more paint on the doors. But mostly, I’m not doing anything else tonight. Sure hope I can survive 2 more days of work this week.
Oh, and Metrocast is still giving us HBO and Max, even tho they said they would take it away on July 1. So it’s kinda like a bonus, I guess. Or it would be if there was anything worth watching on HBO and Max.
Covering each other in chocolate? Count me in.
Some1, the irony is we actually have Skype. Hence me wanting to strangle my brother even more. :dubious:
As for dating, no worries - I’m actually having fun sifting through terribly written emails and seperating the sheep from the goats and stuff. Encouraging anecdotes (waves to Taters) keep me optimistic, but I’m not expecting much; just some fun to liven up my life. I haven’t had much social interaction with anyone outside my program, so it’s nice talking to people that aren’t always thinking about Shakespeare or Hegel or whatever. And there’s always the slim chance that something might come of it. Plus, it’ll supply me with dating horror stories to keep the rest of y’all amused.
I’m sorry to hear about your mother. hugs
I’m tempted to try toasted ravioli for dinner today,
I tried toasted ravioli once. It really gunked up my toaster.
Ok, now that’s jake Mindude!
I’m home, slightly buzzed and waaaaaaaaaaay stuffed. We had ribs, bbq, brunswick stew, slaw, N.O.T. salad, corn on the cob, corn salad, corn bread, rolls, deep dish peach pie (YUM!), homemade ‘niller ice cream, water melon and plenteous beerverages. URP! Excuse me. Some folks will be over shortly for an impromptu pool party that will consist of just hangin’ out at the pool cause nobody needs anything else to eat for sure. Some beerverages will be consumed, of course.
Special1 sorry about your mom. FWIW, I’ll keep her in my thoughts and prayers.
I, too, am anxiously awaiting a report from Snakes.
I’ve never had toasted ravioli but I’ve had ravioli while toasted.
ETA: Congrats on the wings BBBobbio!
I almost stepped on a dead cockroach. shudders
So I’ve decided I should stop being so ridiculously lazy and go out today. I’m not feeling particularly social but I feel like I really shouldn’t be sitting here on my ass, surfing the Dope and OkCupid all at once, when I could be hanging out with flesh-and-blood friends. So I’ve made myself presentable and am just about to head up north to join friends at a BBQ. Hope to hear about everyone’s day when I get back. Specially yours, SCL!
How was the fair, SCL? Did you make oodles o’ dough?
Grill is started, corn is shucked and prepped. Bob Newhart is finished (for now). Uniform is ready for tomorrow.
I have nothing else (except laundry and homework) to do.
#2 son is playing with sparklers. Ah, youth.
Ahh, home. It’s rainy and miserable out. The misty kind of rain that’s light enough that an umbrella is the next best thing to useless 'cos it just floats up under there on your own air currents. But at least that means it isn’t stifling hot.
Gonna have some chili dawgs tonight. Yum!
Swampy - Why thankya, O ursine one. I don’t think Mac users can see the extended characters though, so it probably looks weird to them.
Special1 - Nah, 15 minutes or so (interrupted numerous times by that annoying work stuff.) I’m an ASCII/ATASCII/ANSI artist from waaay back. Hell, I wrote a ANSI art program (search text for “FANSI”) on the Atari ST back in '93/94. I still know the key codes for most of the extended characters by heart. Sorry to hear about your mom. I hope she defies the odds and sticks around long enough to surprise everyone.
Happy 4th to all the American MMP’ers!
I have been a flake recently about posting but my only excuse is work has been insane! That and I took a couple of days vacation to go see the hubby-to-be in flooded Texas!
Today I cleaned my house form top to bottom and guess where I am posting form right now with a beerverage - huh,huh go on guess!!!
I set up my wireless today so I am on the back patio relaxing before I purtify and do the rounds of the BBQ’s I have been invited to
Just did the second coat of touch-up on one side of the doors. Tomorrow, I’ll flip them over and do the touch-up on the other side, and with luck, we can hang the doors tomorrow.
DC was just under a tornado warning, but it’s over. There’s all kind of weather passing over the city and points north of us, but as usual, we’re getting nothing. bummer.
A little bit ago, I sorted out a big bag of pens, pencils, and markers. I tossed maybe a dozen, but we’ve got a bunch of pens from a bunch of places. Of course, when I need a pen, I can never find one. I need to stage them all around the house, ya think?
Meanwhile, I’m trying to find a 1-gallon propane tank for the boat. According to their website, Bass Pro Shops carries them, and the closest one to me is near BWI airport. As it happens, I will be going to BWI next week. I’ll call tomorrow to see if they have them or can get one by next Weds. I love shopping on line.
MMMMMM’s howdy! Whee postin’ from the patio with a cold beerverage. Sounds jake!
I snuck inside for some AC (the humidity is suddenly waaaaaaaaaay up) and to see what’s gone on up in here. I got a feeling that it’ll be stormy in a while what with the humidity build up and some funky lookin’ sky to the west/southwest of us. I imagine in about an hour everybody will be gone anyways cause some folks have to work tomorrow and the rest should be partied out. Then again, there’s always the possibility I will declare everybody partied out, cause when da bear’s tahred, da bear’s tahred!
Have fun partyin’ Haze and MMMMMMM’s and anybody else who’s still out there celebratin’!
Home finaly. I might make food soon. The neighbors have started on the fireworks, Maggie barks, and Lucretia is hiding somewhere. Funny, thunderstorms don’t bother them.
Sorry about your mom, Special1
Congrats, VB!
I was gonna say Myndy wins the prize for coolest “Happy 4th” but swampy beat me to it.
TCM is showing 1776 (the full uncut version, with “Cool Considerate Men” back in) at 10pm EST (os EDST if you must - 10pm on the East Coast of the US/Canadia - do Canadians do DST?) Cousin promised to buy my the Brent Spiner/Broadway cast recording since I already own the original cast and the movie soundtrack. The only bad thing about the show is they’d never let me play Franklin.
For real BioRosie! TCM is showin’ 1776? If’n I can stay awake long enough I’ll watch. Might be hard cause, I be ever so slightly durkn.
Ok, everybody left cause it looks like it’s gonna storm shortly. I’ve had a shower. I am alone tonight cause ACBG is workin’ tomorrow. Fortunately he remained pretty sober, only consumin’ a beerverage or three. Poor thing. That’s ok though cause he’s takin’ off early Friday (right now, they are full staffed) and we’re havin’ a weekend of sloth, gluttony and beerverages to celebrate my rejoinin’ the ranks of the employed. Basically plans are to lie around the pool drinkin’ and eatin’ and in general well, sloth and gluttony. It’s our own personal lil’ celebration. Sweet ain’t it?
OK, gonna get off’n this here ‘puter cause I hear thunderin’ outside. But before I go…
Ogbilgatroy durkne psto… I lveo yuo gysu!
Nitey nite Y’all!
swampy - that’s what DVRs, TiVo, and VCRs (if you must go old school) are for!
I am off to bed now. Yes, it’s 8pm*. I’m sure you all envy me my exciting life.
I do hope tomorrow is quiet in same day surgery (who schedules this stuff for the day after a holiday?).
I’ll think of all of you at 0430–dream of me…
The husband is taking #1 and #2 sons to fireworks. Daughter is out with friends.
the fireworks are tonight (not last night - last night must have been just kids with firecrackers) but for some reason (either the launch position or the wind) they’re exploding farther north (by only a few yards but enough to be blocked by the trees on my street) I saw one sunburst and one streaker but the really colorful ones were 95% blocked. oh well. maybe next year I’ll go plant myself at the safe end of the parking lot.
