Update: I’m on beer #3, and the neighbors have broken out the heavy ordinance.
Happy Fourth of July, everyone!
I had a major shock today. I (we) went bra shopping, and I found out I was way bigger than I thought. Way bigger. I’m having trouble with the concept. Anyway, I have four brand new bras that fit, and we both bought dress fabric. It was fun.
I’ll be busy for the next few days. Love you all!
Uh…cite?
Went to the neighbors today - they were in FL for a few weeks, Wife watched their cats/mail and such, so they had us over for beerverages, and food. Our town’s fireworks are only about a mile from here, so once it got dark, Wife and I snuck out to get the good view from next to the pond.
Note to MBG: The pond is teeming with flying critters, avoid it at night.
Had several beerverages, Wife is upstairs attempting sleep. I may have a few more and hang out down here with you Cool Kids.
haze, I got the drunked post tonight if you don’t make it back, 'K?
And, NOBODY give me grief in the morning, it’s just lager, I’ll be JUST DANDY in the AM.
Animated characters. . .animated sock puppets. . . aren’t they the same?
Nava, thanks for the well-wishes. The amazing power of the MMP participants. It really helps.
Hugs to you regarding your cold. I hope you feel better soon too.
gt, thanks for the well-wishes also. It’s been a pretty peaceful day. But I can hear my neighbor’s stereo starting to crank UP. It’s about 9 pm here. It’s not horrendous so I’m hoping they don’t get crazy. I’m also waiting on some family crisis news, so your well-wishes are very much appreciated.
Actually, for the past several years, I haven’t had the choice of leaving my house, which is one of the reasons that I was so mad about the party. There were people right in front of my house who were falling down drunk lighting fireworks and using other ignitable things. Since they weren’t looking after my lawn, I was the only one who would. So I had to stay at home to do that.
I think they’d appreciate the saltpeter much too much. Oh, and I forgot to mention that they have tiki torches in their backyard, so something burning wouldn’t bother them one bit. One year, I posted my dilemma about my neighbors on a message board and got the advice that I should put fresh cow manure on the grass right where the party-goers would be. I thought about it, but decided to rope the area off instead.
Yahoo, yahoo and yahoo! At least they aren’t doing the party in front of my house this year. It’s 9 pm and there’s no party in front. I can hear some stuff behind my house, but the front is quiet. I’m cautiously optimistic, although I’m already celebrating that nothing has happened so far.
Glad you didn’t get any rashes. Because of the acid content, those can be nasty with mangoes.
Special1, it sounds like you’re the one that needs the hug. So I’m sending out some hugs to you. {{{Special1}}} I hope your mother gets better soon and is as comfortable as possible. And I hope that you find some peace and comfort in this difficult process.
rigs, good luck tomorrow.
**
Lili**, are you braggin’, tellin’ or commiseratin’ about the bra size?
SCL, I’m waiting on the report about the bead sale also. How did it go?
Sounds like the boob fairy came for a visit, LiLi! One of the side effects of pregnancy. I’ll let you decide if it’s a positive thing or a negative thing. :dubious:
Papa Tigs is actually trying to sleep in the bed tonight! Poor guy, he hasn’t been able to lie down comfortably for a week now, so he’s been sleeping in the recliner. Here’s hoping he makes it more than an hour in bed, which was all he managed the last time he tried.
There was no heavy ordnance to speak of in our neighborhood, oddly enough – I guess the guys blew them all up the last few days. Because heaven knows there have been lots and lots of fireworks noises all week. I’m glad things have been quiet; the last thing I need is a freaked-out dog!
Santa Clara University is apparently taking heavy artillery fire. My neighbors to the northeast are setting off very large things that go boom and shake the whole house. They have 10 more minutes, and then they have to knock it off. Well, my neighbors do. I don’t know what the noise curfew is for Santa Clara.
So, you’re the one who goes for Milk Chocolate? Sure, jump right in!
I was with you right up until the toasted ravioli. I think, when we meet, I’ll do the cooking :dubious:
(I know you’re a great cook, just kidding. I’m also a horrible one. It’s just that even my cooking sounds better than toasted ravioli  )
Thanks everybody for the well wishes. Truth is, we’ll probably need them… Does it make me a terrible person, however, that my two worst practical problems with the whole situation is
- Letting on to the rest of the family that our whole fake optimism think is just that – fake? and
- Once that part sinks through, that I’m basically resigned to whatever happens, happens?
And – Good morning everybody, anyway. Just cos I know my morning cheeriness sets a few of you right off!
(And good night, **Roo **-- hope the party in back of your house is over, so you can get some sleep!)
Hey, I think the toasted ravioli might actually be good. It’s like, ravioli rolled in cheese and fried. Seriously. I haven’t tried it yet, but I’ll get back to you when I do.
I am a decent cook, I guess. Scottish Darling used to marvel at my food, but she probably just said that because I fed her for free.
I am actually a white chocolate whore. I think my first post on the SD was something about me willing to whore myself for white chocolate.
And Special1, you’re not a terrible person. It takes a lot of courage to be realistic in these situations. You know we all support you. hug
I don’t know if my slight buzz qualifies me to make an authentic durkjen poost, but you know I love you all either way.
That and, she’s a Brit… British Cuisine  Now there’s a definition of “OxyMoron” for you, Ms. English Teacher
(Waits in trepidation for BooFae’s wrathful reaction…)
Please do not tell me you’re my long lost sister! (because that would be just… wrong  ;))
No wrathful reaction from here, Special1 - British “cuisine” is laughable, that’s why my favourite recipe books are either Scottish or involve curry!
Just a quickie this morning, you lucky people - we finally managed to trap Stanstead this morning so he’s off for an exciting day at the vets. I have a friend who may be interested in giving him a home but it all depends on the outcome of today. We don’t know what illness(es) he might have but something is keeping him extremely skinny and is causing his fur to fall out.
Jill, the lady from Cat’s Protection, said she’d let me know what happens but we should be prepared for it not to be good news.
If you all want white chocolate, then leave the milk choc for moi!
I am up and moving. I forgot that my clock is set 20 minutes fast, so I got up and didn’t use snooze. So, now I have oodles of time (sort of).
Not too bad re the heavy artillary last night-just a few rounds sounded like the invasion had landed. I am sorry to have missed the fireworks, though-I love fireworks.
I had weird dreams, all about sweaters getting put in dryers (wool sweaters mind)and not only shrinking, but getting ripped up. Also, something about reading, and needing to use the bathroom and getting dressed…Usually my dreams have some sort of plot, but I can’t recall what this one was (and probably don’t want to know).
a mouse has died in our linen closet wall. It stinks to high heaven–ah, the good life in the suburbs…
Off to help people and stuff. Toodles.
BooFae–Booyah for catching the critter finally! Simon needs to go into the vet today-he is peeing all over the house, and it’s bloody. Methinks (suspects) a UTI.
Sorry about your mom, SO. Hugs and supporting thoughts headed your way.
I woke up just after a dream about swarms of ants in my basement. Only it wasn’t my basement; it was a variation on the basement in the house I grew up in. And there were people from work looking at the ants but apparently not knowing what to do about them. I remembered reading a thread about what to do about ants and was going to look it up (I was pondering the fact that the word ants contains 4 letters and should therefore be searchable) when - poof! - I woke up.
We had a fun 4th. The parade was silly, played games at Local Best Friend’s, then ate yummy chicken kebabs and veggie kebabs, then watched the fireworks from way up close (well it felt that way). Really cool finale.
Off to work, even though I don’t wanna…
Happy Thursday!!!
GT
Up and off to work. 21 more days till vacation.
Hi Cool Kids!
I never got around to posting yesterday, but I did get caught up until around 6:00 pm. I hope everyone had a fun 4th!
{{Special One}}, I’m sorry about your mom.
Yesterday was a particularly lazy day. It rained most of the day (as it is doing now :(.) I watched, of all things, The French Connection, circa 1971. I had never seen it. What a great cop movie, and the scene with Popeye Doyle chasing the subway was phenomenal!
I also alphabetized all our DVDs, about a hundred of them. I told Mr Rebo he can’t buy anymore movies, because we don’t have room to store any more!
It cleared out long enough for me to bbq some baby back ribs and corn on the cob. With baked beans and cole slaw and sliced maters. Yum! ReboSon came over to eat and do laundry, and we shot off a few bottle rockets and watched the neighbors’ stuff. The best one we did was lighting a whole huge roll of Black Cat firecrackers - it was impressive! As was Mr Rebo’s dance to get away from them! I laughed my ass off! The dogs were not too happy with all the noise, and Ernie hid under the bed, but none of them barked uncontrollably, so that’s good.
So another day of rain and possible flooding. I’m gonna clean a little, and maybe watch another movie or three… Vacation is a lovely thing!
Have a good one, gang!
I like white chocolate (tho the purists say it’s technically not chocolate) and dark chocolate - in fact the darker, the better. Milk chocolate is fine for surrounding things like dried fruit, crispies, creamy centers, caramel, nougat, and nuts, but not for plain.
Have you ever had dark chocolate with a hint of jalapeño? mmmmmm.
Some folks on the next street over were setting stuff off until after 1 am - if I’da had the energy to get outa bed, I’da called the cops on 'em
Good Mornin’ Y’all! I’m up and caffienated. I should feel bad this mornin’ but I don’t. Go figure.
Hope all the Amurrkin cool kids had a good Fourth. ‘Twas fun here. Good food, good friends, good beerverages. Speakin’ of which…
HOW’S THE HEAD THIS MORNIN’ MBG???
Today is cave cleanin’ day. I think I’ll start with the bathrooms and kitchen and see how that goes.
Later Y’all!
Oh man, a rough night for the emergency folks in and around Mayberry.
I was making my lunch for today around 9:30 last night when Hooterville and Pixley were called to a forest fire not too far from my house. It was in some remote woods and moving away from the houses when I went to bed around 10:30. The last I heard, the forestry people were bringing in tractors to plow firebreaks, and the fire departments were picking their butts because it was so remote that none of their equipment could get back to throw water.
One AM, and my pager went off. There was a house fire smack in the middle of Pixley’s district. Since I went to bed fully dressed and wearing my contacts expecting to run water to the forest fire, I was out the door toot-sweet. The forest fire must have been contained, because the same people on that call came to the house fire.
No sooner than we got there, than ANOTHER page went off, for a traffic accident. The rescue squad turns around to head to that, as well as the deputies on duty. We were left without medical support, but there were enough guys/gals cross-trained that we could handle an event if necessary.
The fire was in an attic bedroom, and we saved the house this time. I didn’t pull any hose, but I did get up there with an airpack and the thermal scanner to seek out hotspots. None were found, and I have a nice ring groove around my face this morning from the mask. We packed it in after an hour on scene, and I was back in bed about 3 AM.
When we got back to the station, the word came back that the traffic accident was a car fatally striking a pedestrian. Lots of talk about alcohol screening, and I still haven’t figured out if it was for the driver, victim, or both.
When I got home and was drifting off, the traffic on the radio was that the private ambulance transporting the pedestrian victim struck and killed a 100 lb bear.
So I overslept this morning. The final rub, before I got out of the county and shut the pager off was that the forest fire rekindled, and still no fire department could get to it.
I’m ready for another 6 weeks of butt-picking.
Where’s my damned caffeine?
BBBobbio, just day-ummm! Be careful out there ok? Also, make sure you’re getting proper rest, young man!
The bathrooms and kitchen are all spiffed. Ima start on the dining and living rooms next. Oh, and the laundry room is also spiffed cause I mopped it too. I got invitated to lunch with a friend, so I’ll be fed. I consider it a reward for being all industrious around da cave. Plus I’m being taken out for Chinese tonight. I feel so spoiled!
You guys are up to six pages. I am not reading the whole thing!
Noone Special, you know you have my sympathies.
Hugs and kisses to everyone who needs it. Fourth of July here was rainy and yucky so we didn’t go to see the fireworks. Instead, the fireworks came to see us -kids all over the place exploding things.
Well, the sale wasn’t a total disaster but it was pretty damned close. I sold one $20 piece, one $15 piece, a few pairs of earrings and a lot of the $1 bracelets. I am disappointed but not completely discouraged; this just wasn’t the kind of market for my stuff. I knew that going in but was hoping it would be a lot better than it was. The good parts: the weather wasn’t nearly as hot as I feared it would be - maybe low 90’s instead of high 90’s and we had a good breeze most of the day. This was an alcohol-free event so there were no drunks, and I got a really cool pink flamingo daquiri glass with my non-alcoholic daquiri. I got a decent plate of barbeque. The fireworks show was spectacular; one of the best I’ve ever seen. One of the young men from the church group booth next door (funnel cakes, hot dogs, lemonade and cotton candy - they had a huge line most of the day) helped us get the frame for the canopy back in its wheeled tote bag. That is the hardest part of dealing with the thing, that frame is very heavy! It was very kind of him; I’m the youngest of the three women who were working and we were all very tired after a day in the heat. The festival officials were very nice and made things as easy as possible for the vendors; we even had parking only a block from the booth site. They played really good 70’s rockand roll all day - no rap and the “God and Country” entertainment was on the other side of the river so I didn’t have to listen to it.
The bad parts: I think they start the festival too early; vendors had to be open by 1 and the fireworks didn’t start until 9:30. Since we started at 8:30, that was a long day. I was treated to some of the 2007 Mother of the Year candidates while they waited in line for their hot dogs and lemonade - one woman pissed me off so much; the stupid slitch was telling her maybe-8-year-old daughter “I’m going to beat your ass” and when the girl looked down at the ground and got very quite the mom started in with “What’s wrong with you? What’s your problem?” Some people just shouldn’t breed.
My calf muscles have knots with knots on them and the bottom of my feet are very sore. We didn’t even unpack the van last night, JS is going to come by here this afternoon and we will unload my stuff. I came home, took a bath and went to bed and right to sleep. Where I dreamed of Captain Jack Sparrow for some reason. I am drinking some coffee but I think I may go back to bed.
