Sounds like that was a lovely experience, Rebo.
swampy, the board was apparently down for a while and there is/was a problem with new posts. There doesn’t seem to be a sticky anywhere, but there are a couple of posts in ATMB.

I have been crab caked! **FCD ** and I went to Captain Leonard’s for the first time this year, and as usual, it was yum! I got the aforementioned crab cakes and he got the cajun catfish. We are both stuffed.
And we just finished hanging the last 3 doors - what a difference it made! No more ugly lauan - we’ve now got white 6-panel doors with fancy-pants passage sets. I am happy. And **FCD ** said he’d deal with the IRS thing, so he’s almost forgiven for blowing it off for almost 4 years.
I’m thinking I’ll either have some wine tonight or pop a melatonin. I’ve been tossing and turning when I first go to bed, and I’d rather just crash right away. I need my beauty sleep, dagnabbit!!
Grumpy post follows.
What I say, Ali is to hell with them! It’s a real insult to Meli to treat you both this way (as well as a real one to you). They are NOT in control of the universe OR you. They need to remember that.
Nothing makes me see red more than stuff like this. What is it to them how you live (barring illegalities and lives of crime etc)? They need to get over themselves.
I’m sorry if you’re hurting over this, but they seriously need a reality check.
And look at it this way: it’s out there now. The ball’s in their court. And you and your lovely lady can just get on with living your lives.
Off to be less grumpy elsewhere.
Oh, and the husband’s prescriptions cost $65. I must have looked shocked, but the tech told me that insurane SAVED us $191.
Edited to add–sorry about the kittycat,** Boo**
{{{{{BooFae’s foster kitty}}}}}
Nothing to add except that I am tahrd! vewy vewy tahrd.
eta: {{{{{BooFae, too, of course}}}}}
Whoa on the 'script price rigs! Oh, and as to your advice to Cellodude, preach it sistah! Can I get a witness! I said AAAAAAAAA-MEN!
I meant to throw in the recipe for adult grilled cheese in my last post. Ok, this is the recipe I worked from but not exactly what I did. First, I used rye bread cause well, we lurve us some rye bread and second, instead of asagio which is num, I threw in some shredded pepper jack just to give the sammiches a kick. Rachel’s recipe is also num cause I’ve done that too, but my embellishments are better. Some good vine ripened 'maters make it even better. Oh and if you want more, then some good thick sliced hickory or apple wood smoked bacon makes 'em even better, but I didn’t do that tonight.
Hey Swampy - I’m chasing you… (email and PM and here ;))
How long do I cook the NOT wedges? I can’t find my old thread…
Thanks!
Guys, I saw rattaouille! I loved it. Pixar’s done it again, and this time they made rats cute.
I just got some bad news - a good friend of mine has ovarian cancer; they started her on chemo tonight. She’s been sick for about two weeks but thought she had a virus; she works for a doctor and he finally made her go in for X-rays. They removed over 6 liters of fluid from her abdomen and lungs, and found malignant cells in the fluid. I will be going to the hospital to see her tomorrow; and I would appreciate your prayers for Libby. She’s one of my hockey/Booster Club buddies; she’s the one who arranges the roster to make sure the opposing team has a hot meal after the game. She does a lot for the Booster Club and for the team, and is just one of the nicest people I know. Heck, she’s the one who talked me into running for office!
Somehow my lack of success at the Thunder on the Hooch pales in comparison.
It really sounds like a cute movie, Meeks . I was thinking I might see it soon.
45 minutes, Rebo. Here’s your post.
Grilled cheese sounds yum. Might need to try it as soon as I start to have some ripe tomatoes (soon!).
So sorry about your friend, SCL. Prayers and good thoughts headed toward Georgia.
I’ll be the aunt responsible for making baby feel clean and welcome. I’ve acquired The Fisher-Price Aquarium Bath Center and some towels and some receiving blankets. Got a few other useful things Local Best Friend will like (she’s very practical and doesn’t have patience for fluff). Wrapping is going to be fun…
Guess I should get to bed soon. Lots to do tomorrow.

I am nicely brown and quite exhausted. I tagged along with the guys to go see a White Sox / Twins game today, and it was actually quite fun depsite the fact that the pitchers sucked so most of the home runs were just walk-ins. The score was 20 to 14, Twins win. 20!! Ridiculous, I tell you. Anyway, I could tell the guys were going to do more drinking and watch the second Sox / Twins game on TV at a bar somewhere, but I decided not to tag along for that. For one, I could tell that they wanted to do some male bonding and grunting without wimmin around; for another, I thought that a situation involving alcohol, That Guy, Minister’s Lad, and quite possibly That Guy’s girlfriend was one well avoided. See, I can be prudent on occasion.
Hugs for SCL, BooFae, Celloguy, and Meli.
I would definitely advise it. We just got back from seeing it and it was very good. Though my adoration of all of Brad Bird’s work might taint my opinion a bit, but then again there is a reason I love his movies so much.
And thank you everyone for your support. I am hoping my parents will come around at least a little bit eventually, but I am not so sure this time as I have never heard my mother sound so disappointed, not even when I told them that I was an atheist. Well c’est la vie and all that baly rot.
Prayers headed out for your friend, SCL. A good thought to carry you through: My aunt is a 10±year survivor of ovarian cancer. It is possible to beat it!
Sorry about your parents, Ali. It really sucks when parents are so judgmental. I hope they’ll come around, but as has been said, it’s their loss. If you guys ended up getting married, would that erase “your previous sin,” at least to the extent of visiting you again?
I’ve been a somewhat good girl this evening and have been working on the HORRIBLE HORRIBLE tape. It is all that, and then some. The good news I don’t have to try very hard, just put down what I can hear easily and put (inaudible) for the rest. But even that is tiring, so I’ll be glad to get it done. I’m over half done with it already, thank heaven.
Isaac does get taters (N.O.T.), canine servant. If we have leftovers from human food, both idiots will get a couple bites mixed in with their kibble. They’ll be scoring at breakfast tomorrow since we has hashbrowns with dinner tonight. Isaac in particular is such an omnivore that we’ve only found a couple things he won’t eat, mostly tangy citrus. He eats apple, although he’s a bit dubious. And both dogs absolutely adore green beans and broccoli. Stoopid dogs.
I just realized that I’m the only family member still awake. I think I shall go rectify that. Nighty-night, everybody!
SCL, I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. My thoughts and prayers are with her and her family.
Taters, I thought I was the only person in the world who still wants to use a clothesline! I use Ecover detergent–it has a light lavender scent, and if I hang my clothes up outside to dry, it smells unbelievably good. Mmmmmm…line-dried clothes.
Well, it’s not as much fun as having an alien in the office, but we had a strange visitor at the office yesterday. Some construction workers had a door propped open, and a groundhog just strolled right into the office. I thought we should have kept it for an office mascot, but someone from Animal Control came over and scooped it up in a net and found it a new home. It made the local news last night. Must have been a slow news day. :dubious:
taxi, I hope your kitty feels better! Giving a cat ear drops sounds really tricky, so if you can avoid it, that’s good. I don’t know why cats would want to eat yarn–it doesn’t seem like it would be very tasty.
Boofae, I’m sorry about Stanstead. You did a good thing.
Ali, I hope your parents come around. My mom is the same way, and it’s not a problem right now, but I’m sure it will be some day. Maybe they’ll get over it, maybe they won’t, but it’s your life and you get to make your own decisions, even if they don’t like it. Sometimes I think parents feel a little rejected if their children make different decisions than they would (I’d say it’s because we learned to think for ourselves, so that’s a good thing, but I don’t think they see it quite the same way).
I want a Newfie. They’re so big and sweet and drooly.
Twinkle is an odd name, but it’s better than Tinkle.
Hugs to BooFae, for the loss of her cat
Hugs to SCL, for her friend in the hospital
Hey MagicEyes, I’ve seen you a couple times here, but haven’t said hi, so hi! Welcome to the MMP, unless you were here before me in which case you can welcome me.
Special1, I’m early tonight. Good night!
My parents have taken to blaming it on the fact that I went to college (lets forget about the part where both of them have college degrees and my siblings who have not strayed as far have also gone to college). I keep trying to explain to them that they don’t teach social liberalism in the Computer Science classes and that they only way to prevent my from being different from them would have been to never let me read books, but they seem to prefer to blame it on an entire institution which is, in their minds, a bastion of ultra left wing / secularist thought.
I’ve known for some time that eventually this would come up and that my parents would not approve when it did. In fact that is one of the reasons I hardly ever dated throughout college, because I knew that my life choices would drive a wedge between my parents and myself, but then I met Meli, and well, when you meet someone like her you have to make a value judgment. Either make your parents happy, or be as happy as you could have ever imagined yourself. So I am certainly not in any way ever going to second guess myself because of what my parents think, but I just wish that they did not see the world in rigidly defined areas of black and white with absolutely no wiggle room even for their own children.
Sorry I haven’t been able to keep up and comment on everything else that is going on around here, as you can imagine my mind if fairly preoccupied right now, so hugs for everyone that needs them. . . hell, hugs for everyone regardless.
The bottom line, Ali and Meli, is if you are happy, that’s what matters. Your parents are upsete because they think you’re too young. But if you show them that you can be together, be happy, and still live productive mature lives, they’ll eventually come around. . . .
. . . . or there will be 4 fewer people at your wedding
I’m watching the first bullrun (it hasn’t started yet). Being that the 7th is on Saturday, we knew it was going to be brutally full… but San Fermin protect us, City Hall Square is as full as for the Chupinazo!
They were interviewing the guy who’s in charge of installing the fences every morning and he said they couldn’t even start working until the cops showed up. People were ganging up on them and taking off any poles they’d managed to install That’s not what the fiesta is about!
Two of the divinos (guys who run every day unless they’re hospitalized) died last year. The son and friends of one of them are going to scatter his ashes along and during the run.
A San Fermín venimos
por ser nuestro patrón
nos guíe en el encierro
dándonos su bendición
Please no wounded today…
Now that I’ve actually looked at other posts: parents always think their children are too young! (Not all, but those exceptions are, well, exceptional people)
They’re stretching… passed the bend in Estafeta… separated in two groups… one has fallen, another… both have risen rapidly… what’sthatassholedoingrunningwithafuckingcamerasomeonekillhim…
Haven’t seen anybody stupid enough to grab a bull’s tail. Also haven’t seen too many people fall down and spring up when they shouldn’t, although I’ve seen some who fell down when they tripped on an already-fallen guy. The bulls may be behind but you still hafta look ahead Unusually enough, several of the oxen ran ahead of the bulls, only one stayed behind. But it was pretty clean, they didn’t need to release the second set of oxen (which is done to see if they can pick up their whole brother when one decides to stop running or turn back).
Fast run but several fallen bulls and one guy got tossed up by a bull, may or may not be wounded. Most of the fence seemed free, I’ve seen several guys able to escape under it (if you fall down besides a stretch of fence, you should roll under it and get out). There were a couple years when some people got wounded because onlookers didn’t let them through
The ads are all for Navarrese companies, Navarrese products and the Navarrese government. For some reason I find funny all the ones that are supposed to be humorous, gee, think it might be a cultural thing?
They’re doing the rerun now. Several wounded, including that guy who got tossed up by a bull… Red Cross says a minor puncture wound and the rest are dislocations, awright! Phew, the weekend runs are the most dangerous because there’s more people and they tend to be tourists (i.e., total newbies who too many times think the bulls are plush dolls).
On other matters, {{{{{BooFae}}}}} Having your gnome killed is pretty much an everyday occurrence in WoSW, so either 'im inside is sniffling about the cat or he’s coming down with a cold. I mean, if he was going to sniffle every time his gnome gets killed you wouldn’t be earning enough for Kleenex.
Sanfer, I know SCL’s friend Libby isn’t from Pamplona, but she could use a saving capote. Thanks.
Just the highlights – it’s been 24 hours and you’ve all been busy…
**BooFae **-- Poor cat {{{**BooFae **& Stanstead}}}
**Ali **(& Meli) – It’s a rare pair of parent’s that doesn’t eventually come around; it’ll be not-fun for a while, but I hope they will.
OTOH, I’d like to second Swampy’s Amen on Rigs’ rant there.
**SCL **-- Your friend is very much in my thoughts (going through something similar here)
Haze – 20-14? you sure they didn’t lie to you and take you to a basketball game? :dubious:
Back when we were kids… baseball games could end 1-0. And weliked it! Hrrmph! Kids these days!!!
Now geroff my lawn. Joining me inside is one way of doing it… just sayin’!
(Baby Tigs mode) “I’m late! I’m late!”
Thanks for looking for me yesterday too BTW, Roo – it’s just that our Fri-Sat weekend means I’m usually late to the party on Fridays, as well as Saturdays.
If you feel like staying up late Saturday night, I’ll be at work early Sunday morning and we can chat a bit
Oh, and of course… everone – (sing-song voice) “Good Morning, everybody!”
ETA: Especially Good Morning to our Navarrese corespondent, who seems to be up on an on-Ogly hour this morning! (waves) “Hi, Nava!”
Nava - they televise the run? Or do you have a good vantage point from a window? Ever since City Slickers, I think about some guy getting rear ended and tossed up over the throngs like Billy Crystal in the opening scene.
I woke up at 12:30 after being sound asleep for about an hour - I awoke because Smokey decided she had to get from the living room to the bedroom window by the most direct route - across my chest - quickly. And for some stupid reason, I came in to play some iSketch and see what was going on here instead of going right back to bed.
which is what I am going to do now. have a lovely saturday all - I think I’ll spend mine asleep.
