Slightly delayed, my tale with a moral; this weeks MMP

I just got an email from a Twinkle LastName. Twinkle? Twinkle? What kind of a name is Twinkle? Actually, I thought it was Twinkie when I first got the email, so I guess Twinkle is slightly better than Twinkie. FTR, I’m fairly certain Twinkle is this person’s English name, not the one they were born with. Still, Twinkle?

I’m sorry about Stanstead, BooFae. Doing the right thing can be so hard sometimes.

Twinkle is a semi-common nickname in India. Is the person Indian?

Dimple Kapadia named her daughters Twinkle and Rinke. And Dimple was a very serious actress, doing controversial roles like divorcees and women stuck in abusive marriages.
I did NOT know this!

Oh, and it says her sister was named Simple.

Mama Tigs, I have an idea. I will go through MY Indian music collection, and it should be easy-peasy to make a playlist of the stuff I like best, take a screen shot, and e-mail it to you. That way you’ll have some idea at least of some composers/movies/albums/songs that you might like. You can then probably go on your iTunes or youtube and at least hear/watch snippets of them, and see which ones you like.

How does that sound?

BooFae I’m so sorry about Stanstead. :frowning: You did the right thing though. Poor little fella.

I snuck in for some AC cause it’s hawt out there! Gonna go back out in a few though cause the pool feels good. I got off my float and have been floatin’ around in the water usin’ a pool noodle for a while. I imagine in about an hour both of us will have had enough outside time for one day. It’s kinda nice it just bein’ the two of us out there though. For a while we were both just sittin’ on the next to bottom step of the pool talkin’ and smoochin’. Just nice. Y’all quit sayin’ “ewwwwwwww!” That ain’t nice. :stuck_out_tongue:

BBBobbio great idea with “Beer Barrel Polka.” The truck/wagon will need more than one song to blare out over those loud speakers.

Swampy Can I come hang out in your pool? Tell you what, I’ll bring beer. Temperature’s rising here too and it’s been a looooooooong time since I’ve been in a pool.

Yes, an Indian surname. I retract my amazement, then. Divorced from their meaning, they *are * pretty words.

I think it surprised me mostly because here, people can use nicknames for email, and that was Not Allowed at my last job. (Also, it took me a minute to realize it wasn’t Twinkie.) It didn’t matter if you went by Skip, Lisa, or Angela, if the name on your government ID was Peter, Elizabeth, or Hang, that’s what you went by, period. And forget changing your name after you got married, that required an act of Og.

One more reminder that I don’t work There anymore. Yay! Just for gt, I’ll try and find out why AC was fired. I’m sure someone has an idea by now.

It wasn’t Twinkle Kapadia herself was it?
ETA: Oh, and please don’t retract your amazement. I don’t even like the name. It’s just representative of a different culture, one that really isn’t mine, so I find it weird, too.

That’s a great idea re the music, Meeks, as long as you’re sure it’s not too much trouble. I’d appreciate it – I’m trying to expand my musical collection, but without knowing who any of the artists are, it makes it hard to get any more of their music.

Awww about poor Stanstead. But you did the right thing, and at least he had a comfortable, peaceful ending instead of dying all alone and miserable. Poor baby.
I have done nothing again today. Except make sure the physical therapy place has the info to confirm the insurance for Papa Tigs’ therapy on his neck/shoulder next week. And watch a WNTW marathon on TLC.

BooFae, by the way, you guys really do need to watch the last episode of Jericho so you can pick up again when the new (abbreviated) season starts. You did hear it got picked up again, didn’t you? No definite start date, but “some time in the fall” is the current guess. And they’re starting reruns tonight – pilot tonight, the next week a summary of the (mostly laughably crappy) first half of the first season, followed by the (infinitely better and quite gripping) second half. I’m so psyched I can’t believe it, especially over a stupid TV show! That I watched last year mostly to laugh at, except somewhere along the line it stopped being bad and turned into a really thoughtful post-apocalyptic drama. Which pleased me no end, much as I loved snarking at the cheese.

I’d better go throw Isaac’s Kong before he absolutely dies of sadness. Poor doggie. No one ever does anything nice for him. We aren’t discussing the fact that whiterabbit took both idiots with her to pick up her check, and they got to see people and doggies and get treats. Nuh uh, nobody does anything for Isaac. :dubious:

Nothing like starting your weekend with a letter from the IRS saying you owe money. But I can’t figure out what we owe it on. From the amount and the payee on the 1099 form, it sounds like a payout from my husband’s old 401K, but we never requested it, nor have we received a check. If that’s what it was, I’m royally pissed, because I’ve been on his case ever since he left that particular job to roll over that 401K to his current account.

So the IRS wants $675 in taxes against a check we never received in the first place. I’m going to make *someone * figure this out as punishment. grrrrrrrr!!

Other than that, I’m glad the week is over. It’s going to be a hot weekend, and I’ve already told FCD I’m only working on the boat on Saturday, which will be the cooler of the 2 days. I’ll spend Sunday in the air conditioning doing chores in the house.

I’m still grrrrrrrrr-ing about the IRS. I’ll post later when I’ve chilled. grrrrrrrrrrr!

Moooooom there’s no tellin’ with the IRS either. I moved my 401k from ex job over to an IRA on the advice of my accountant. He assures me that is a wise move. I trust him cause he’s always done right by me.

mika of course you can come to the pool! We’ll save you a float. Speakin’ of pool, we are inside for good now cause it’s gettin’ cloudy out. Hopefully some rain is movin’ in. According to the weather folk we have about a 50% chance. Right now there’s a nice breeze a blowin’ and ACBG is on the back porch sippin’ on a beerverage. Think I’ll go join him.

Later Y’all!

ETA: I forgot this… I got a nice call from Miller a few minutes ago just to welcome me and to see if I had any last minute questions. I like that. Looks like it might be a nice place to work.

Oy, I hate it when the Dope goes down! Looks like I"m the first since it came back up.

Oh, sorry, that juvenile of me?

So, I didn’t miss anything all day while I’ve been gone?

Work today was good–a very cute lil 2 year old who was so good! And some nice other people getting various body parts (some of them extra) lopped off.

then I went to get the husband from his oupt surgery, and the cat is now at the vet overnight for possible UTI. I have spent the last hour cleaning up cat pee and poop from all over the house. That stuff smells like a mother…
It’s supposed to be horrid and hot and blech this weekend. I plan on doing nothing (except school stuff) and working on my Casper impression.

Whew! I’ve stopped twitching now.

Why am I always seduced by pretty clothes that have things that fall off? I’ve had seed beads flying off my top all day, and my chair is surrounded by them.

It’s supposedly only in the 80s today, although it certainly didn’t feel like it at lunch. The fountain was full of little kids, 30 or 40 of them. Surrounding the fountain were a fair number of adults looking on with envy. Alas, going back to the office dripping wet is probably not wise. Also, the water is heavily chlorinated now, due to people getting ill earlier.

Amusingly, due to the same RSVP list that led to Twinkle, I’ve had someone RSVP on behalf of himself and his mom. No name, just “my mom.” I need just a little more information than that, please!

Curses! I was planning on being able to make that claim.

Anyway, circumstances aligned themselves so that I was forced to tell my parents about Meli, moving in today. I had mentioned it at work and afterwards it occurred to me that in our new office setup the CMS of the Air Force sits about ten feet from my desk, and he happens to go to my parents church. I am not sure if he overheard me, but I wouldn’t want to risk my parents finding out by it coming up in conversation on Sunday, so today or tomorrow were my only options.

That is essentially how my mom reacted, only without any irony. Basically she neither approves of, nor accepts my decision. And until Meli moves out she won’t be coming to visit anymore because apparently that would be a de facto sign of approval. And that was just my mother, I told her because she is the more accepting of my parents.

I long ago gave up on the idea of having my parents approval since following their rules and me being happy are two things that hardly ever meet, but I never expected it to go this far. I mean, correct me if I am wrong (which I am not by the way) but didn’t Jesus hang out with, among other social pariahs, prostitutes? And yet they cannot even visit me when I am living with my girlfriend. Crimeny.

I haven’t heard from my father yet, but that is only because I have been screening my calls. After hearing my mother’s reaction I am not anxious to hear from my father.

I had my sink fixed today. There was a hole in the drain pipe, and they went ahead and replaced both sink drain, and fixed the faucet swivel so it doesn’t leak when you move it the wrong way. I went to Wally*World and bought groceries. Then everybody took a nap.

BooFae, l’m sorry about Stanstead. At least he had your kindness before the end.

MamaTigs, of couse Issac is sad. You feed him dog food. If you loved him, you’d feed him salmon and steak and taters(N.O.T.). At least that’s what Maggie tells me. The Dope was down? No wonder I felt like sleeping.

**Ali/b], maybe your parents will come around.

Awww, poor Stanstead. But as others said, you did the right thing, BooFae.

Oooh, possible exciting Jah’s ex-job gossip! Yay! Apparently I’m not getting my minimum daily requirement of dirt.

Did I ever even comment on all your adventures, Bobbio? I think it’s amazing that you do what you do! (The rescue stuff, not the flirting stuff. :p)

I’ve got all kinds of cultural gaps too. My mom was really strict about watching TV when we were little, so we missed out on a lot (although I’ve read about lots that I missed). There were a few shows that were on our approved list, but other than that, she expected us to be playing or otherwise doing something constructive. I always loved reading, although I didn’t read a lot of what I wish I would have, since Mom isn’t a big reader and my tastes pretty much focused on teen romances. Went through phases where I had roommates who watched lots more TV and I watched along with them. Now I watch practically no TV and catch up on a few things via DVD.

Looks like it’ll be hot tomorrow and Sunday then a bit cooler with POSSIBLE RAIN!!! Yay!!!

Sitting here considering dinner, watching Bride and Prejudice again, and then thinking of going out to find a baby shower present. Also thinking about what I need to get done here before Local Best Friend’s parents come to town. I need to leave a few things for her dad to do (he’ll go stir crazy otherwise), but there’s a bunch of stuff I want to do on my own. Hmmmm.

Hugs to all… Back later.

Aww! I’m so sorry to hear about poor Stanstead. :frowning: It was he I was inquiring about. I hope the female kitten will be okay, although I’m afraid of jinxing her now!

Missed the edit window:

Sorry about your Mom’s reaction, Ali. Hopefully she’ll mellow out over time. It always makes me sad when parents can’t accept that their children have different values than they do. My mom and I have similar issues, but she’s grown a bit more accepting over time. Also, we live thousands of miles apart, so visiting doesn’t come up all that often.

Maybe your Mom will learn to accept your differences over time. At least you know you and meli have lots of support here…

CelloDude the 'rents will either deal or they won’t. Take that as sage advice from one who has had shall we say living arrangements his 'rents would rather he not had but they learned to deal. So will yours. If not, then their loss cause we all know you got the grand prize in meli.

Supper was adult grilled cheese sammiches with maters and fried N.O.T. I sorta got fussed at for the fried N.O.T. cause according to somebody we are supposed to have food that requires no effort, but, hey, what’s the deal with peelin’, slicin’ and fryin’ up a couple N.O.T. right? Took me all of twenty minutes. Guess he’ll just plotz tomorrow when he finds out I have some burger already made up and sittin’ in the fridge that I plan on grillin’. Plus some burly butcher bacon to fry up so’s we can have bacon/cheese burgers.

I had to refresh my browser to get back in cause I got an error message sayin’ the dope was down. Sump’n bout problems with new posts. Anybody know what was up?

Poor little kitty. :frowning:

I have been a-pamperin’ myself today. I got a haircut, and a manicure and pedicure. Complete with massage of the legs with honey sugar, and the standard massage of the arms with the lovely rose lotion, all while sitting in the massage chair. Mmm… And apparently, they make this stuff called callous remover, and the poor girl scrubbed and took the belt sander to my (love to go barefoot) feet, and almost got all the tough ole cracking hard-as-nails heels - soft! Woo-hoo! I tipped both of the them well.

I’m getting ready to fry up some catfish and corn dodgers, and bake some no-fry NOT wedgies, and I’ve sliced some lovely maters and cut up some green onions.

I wish Mr Rebo would get home so we could commence the REAL weekend. He’s on his way, and stuck in traffic…

(Ignore this, Special One.)

Let the weekend begin!

ETA: Hopefully your parents will come around, Ali
