I’m sooooo juvenile… Herbie!
Mornin’!
Happy Friday.
Much to do, and I’m taking a long lunch with the Child and the Wife, then cutting out early.
So, I’d best be on my way…
Well, my first thought was along the lines of what MBG’s co-worker said.
Shoppin is all done, beerverages icin’ down and da bear is goin’ to da pool to begin the weekend of sloth, gluttony and general uselessness. YAY! Figure I might as well, cause next week I rejoin the worker bees.
doggio I like that idea. Maybe a beer truck/wagon kinda like the ice cream truck/wagon things that ride around various ‘hoods. It could play “In Heaven There Is No Beer” and adults would come runnin’ down the street cause the beer man’s here! It’ll make bazillions!
Or, “Roll Out the Barrel”…
Jah, thank you so much for all the knitting stuff! I got it last night and was like a kid in a candy store. I’m a little intimidated by the all the patterns in the scarf book, but I’ll get there! Some of them are just so beautiful! And the yarn is just gorgeous. I want to go out and start 5 projects right now!
But I can’t. Because I had to restart the baby blanket I’m working on because my cat ate the yarn right next to where I’d left off. Fortunately I’d only done about 4 rows so it wasn’t a big loss, and I’d been doing part of it wrong so it was probably better to start over anyway. But I still wasn’t pleased with her. And now I’m worried about her because the yarn could tangle in her intestines. And it was acrylic so it won’t be digested. ::sigh::
She has to go to the vet anyway because I think she’s got another ear infection. Major ugh. It’s so hard to give a cat medicine! But I’m going to get started this time before it gets so bad that we have to do 2 weeks of drops and pills twice a day. That really sucked.
I didn’t get the Partridge Family reference either. My parents, while not immigrants like mika’s, weren’t really into most of the normal cultural things from the 60s and 70s so I was never exposed to that stuff either. KeithT will make reference to well-known members of bands from that time period, and I just give him blank looks. It kinda sucked as a kid because all my friends/classmates would be talking about something music/movie/tv related and I’d just have no idea what they were talking about. At least when a coworker was going to the Police concert the other night I knew who they were!
See, you understand what I’m talking about. There’s always this little gap…
I just came from another thread where I read about a little girl who had her (TMI TMI TMI TMI) small intestines sucked out her rear end by a drain in the bottom of a pool.  I am horrified and feel vaguely nauseous.
Heh heh heh…
Another thing. I just went to the bathroom and i saw a woman there who was dressed in evening wear. She was a statesque blonde, absolutely stunning, with a lovely simple black silk dress, high heels, the works. I know there are a couple of law firms in this building but that dress was pretty overdone for a work day and it’s FRIDAY to boot. Weird.
She was at the sink when I came in. I did my business and when I came out she was gone. I used the same sink to wash up, and there was some really weird green stuff in the bottom of the sink? So she’s dressed in a lovely evening gown and she’s got weird green residue on her hands?
That was around here. Somewhere in Mpls I think. Really horrible. They’re saying she’s going to have to be tube fed for the rest of her life. Horrifying.
I didn’t read what you just wrote about that little girl, Meeks. I’ve got my fingers in my ears, lalala!
If it’s any consolation, Meeks, I have a hole in my cultural knowledge, too, at least amongst my generation, because I spent my first 4 years in India and then we didn’t have a TV when we got back until I was 6 and so the only show I saw in those two years was Lassie. So I never saw most of the TV my fellow boomers spent their early years on. When I was in college, everyone got all excited because Buffalo Bob was coming, and I had no idea who he was, to their horror. (He was the human attached to Howdy Doody.) Hey, I never saw him, okay?
And Papa Tigs is even worse – he was living in Guam during the '80s without a TV at all, so all '80s references fly over his head. Which can be a good thing, like he’d never heard of Kathy Lee Gifford or the Olsen Twins.
I went to bed early last night and slept laaaate, and I feel so much less wrung out today. The last week has been a killer, what with the mountains of work I’ve been struggling to get through, so it’s good to feel human again. I’ll probably have to do a bit of work today because there’s one short but hideous job I need to get done – it was so bad they split it up so that nobody got more than one tape, and it’s accompanied by the note, “HORRIBLE HORRIBLE TAPE” – and I’m the last one to get my tape done. When they nagged me about it, though, I offered to send it back and let someone else do it, so they haven’t nagged me again. I’m evil that way.
My genyoowine lace pattern with genyoowine lace yarn is actually coming along nicely! Yay, I finally have graduated to real lace yarn without having to double-strand it! I feel so grown up. (But not grown up enough to attempt one shawl knit out of cobweb yarn – think “thread” – for which the skill level isn’t the standard beginner/intermediate/experienced, but “adventurous.” )
Good morning and Happy Friday everyone!
I knew who the Partridge Family was. In fact, when I lived on a particular Army installation, their bus came through. I was in luuuuuuuuurve with David Cassidy. Of course, in 1970, I was only first grade. What does a first grader know about taste in guys? I think I was in second grade when their bus came through. My crush had abated slightly, but not much, by then.
I read the article about the girl in the pool too. How sad.
I guess I should finish drying my hair and stuff. We need to run off to get a TB test for my daughter, and stop at the bank too.
Laters…
Mika, Isn’t it obvious? The woman in the evening dress was an alien!
taxi, I’m glad you like the package. I had fun putting it together. Plus, I thinned out the stash!
We didn’t have a television when I was growing up, my dad’s family (black & white) tv only got one station when *he * was growing up, and my mom grew up in a household where popular culture was Teh Devil, so I’m really oblivious to lots of cultural references.
ETA: It was unbearably hot last night. Even with all the fans on, it felt like the air wasn’t moving. It was still 92F in my bedroom at 10:30 last night. It finally came down to 74F this morning. It’s supposed to only get into the 80s today. I hope so.
I was always a music junkie but never have watched TV much. When I lived with my aunt and uncle (age 5 to 9) I was only allowed to watch Disney on Sunday nights. I just never got into the habit of plopping down in front of the TV. I’ve just always preferred to read. Except for Star Trek and Dark Shadows; I loved those when I could sneak around and watch them!
My feet are feeling a bit better now. I still need to get all the jewelry sorted and some of it photographed and get it all put away. Grr. I don’t even want to look at it.
Another day that should have been canceled. The train car that usually holds about 130 people on a normal commute didn’t even have 30 today.
Some sort of baseball mania is going on here. Seems that the All-Star game is here next week, so we’ve got more people walking around in baseball-themed jackets and shirts than usual.
It’s hot, hot, hot HOT! 108 at home yesterday. No, that’s not a typo. One hundred and eight degrees. Our neighbor’s air conditioner died, so we had them sleeping in our guest room last night. Apparently, it costs $5,000 to have an air conditioner replaced when it’s over 100 degrees outside. The alternate was to sink $1,800 worth of repairs into an 19 year old unit, which would only mean that something else expensive would break next month. This way, it’s all new, guaranteed, more energy efficient and he’ll get a tax credit.
Fortunately, our AC was replaced by a previous owner about five years ago.
Bah! I have bad news. The lady from Cat’s Protection just rang to say that Stanstead had to be put to sleep. The poor little mite had feline AIDS and although he wasn’t particularly physically unwell, he would not have improved at all so it was really the best thing for him.
I feel bad about it because I made friends with him and fed him until he was trappable, and now it’s all over for him.
'im indoors is in the next room sniffling in front of his computer. He’s either upset about Stanstead or else someone’s killed his gnome. Your guess is as good as mine!
Aw, poor Stanstead. I’m sorry to read about it. However, you did the right thing by trying to help him.
It’s another lovely day outside. Soon, my daughter and I will be off for her TB test and to run a couple of other errands.
I’ll need to run by the grocery store too. We need some meat.
I guess I should get going now.
Aw poor Stanstead! It’s all for the best, but that doesn’t make it not be a sad thing.
I am seriously under-motivated to spend a whole day here at work today. It being July, and Friday - not a lot of people would gripe if I left early. And those that might, aren’t even here today…
I should have known! All the X-Files I’ve been watching lately…:dubious:
Poor Stanstead. I’m going to say the same thing I always do - knowing when to say goodbye is loving the pet more than just taking care of the pet. And Stanstead has his time with you to remember.
I’m sorry, BooFae. But at least you tried to help him, and now he won’t suffer. Poor baby.
Mr. SCL is getting ready for work, and I am puttering around trying to get stuff put up. Actually I am sitting here avoiding putting stuff up.
I saw something about that little girl, but didn’t click on it and now it is gone. What happened? Anyone got a link?
