Slightly delayed, my tale with a moral; this weeks MMP

Thanks for the concerns everybody but I wasn’t much worried about the limb on the two lines. Well, except that I didn’t want it to like burn down the house. I was concerned about that. See, I was able to pretty much give the limb one big push and get it off the lines and to the edge of the carport away from the lines whereupon I was able to give it another shove so it fell in the yard. It was long but not as thick as the last one that fell directly in his yard which coulda caused major problems if it had fallen on power lines cause that sucker would have taken 'em down. Anyways, I think I did the smart thing except for the knee scrape.

gotti yay for DH and his new job and for findin’ a smokin’ gun and for the new washer and dryer. I can understand the “celebratin’” by buyin’ 'em. Nice shiny new appliances are always fun.

Mindude purty pitchers! So sparkly and shiny! OOOOOH!!!

The place is called Triton, and it’s almost due west of the city, I think. Near Oak Park. It’s very much up in the air right now, because they’re looking for morning teachers at the moment, and the place I’m already working at has me booked Mon-Thurs mornings for the fall quarter. I might have to start looking for a Tues-Thurs afternoon/evening gig at a city college, which would be closer to both where I work now and where I plan to move (up north, hopefully Logan Square or maybe closer to the lake).

I picked up some information at a place called Chicago Apartment Finders. Apparently if you give them a neighborhood, price range, etc., they drive you around so you can look at stuff. All for free. It sounds almost too good to be true. I’m hoping they turn out to be as helpful as they seem, because it would mean we wouldn’t have to wrestle with craigslist.

Mork, lovely photos! Why aren’t you in any of them?

Nava, I really think we need to secretly create an MMPers team :D. I see Kat has joined us as well!

(Kat, whenever I see your username I always think of the villainess Catra from the She-ra series. She could turn into a cat, you know. You don’t get much more awesome than that.)

Nava I saw in another thread that you’ve played Baldur’s Gate. Have you finished the second one, BG II ? And if so, did you go into the add-on module for that, Throne of Bhaal? (Mika, I know you play, but I think you’ve got a ways to go before you get to the expansion module for the second game.)

Great pics, Mindfield!

Nava, Haze & Kat - four female MMPers would make a great teams! I hope you are all on my side because I don’t want to have to dunk any of ya!

I will be so glad when Thursday is here. I’m so nervous I even caught my self chewing on a fingernail and I quit doing that years ago! Wish I had a valium. Instead Mr. SCL is going by the store for some nerve tonic on his way home.

Home, and finally able to post. I’m not going to go back and track down exactly who said what, but I require chocolate love offerings, not donations, or whatever plebian term was used. :stuck_out_tongue:

Secondly, I believe **Bumba ** allowed his membership to lapse. I see him post occasionally on Skip’s board, but even that is a rarity. Rue, on the other hand, apparently doesn’t love us any more. He didn’t even take the hint when I suggested he might want to post here again. <sigh>

Way cool OP, BBBobbio! Glad you’re OK, and :stuck_out_tongue: to your not-appreciative-enough wife-person. Oh well, what ya gonna do?

The reason I’m so late posting is I was on hold with Geico for close to an hour trying to get my auto insurance quote straightened up. The woman I was talking to was very apologetic and it’s not like I had anything else to do - I was reading this thread while holding - and in the end it was worth it. We’ll save more than $3K over the latest quote from our old company. This is the best quote by far, so yay! I’ll be calling back a little later for a home policy quote, too.

And I’ll be off work tomorrow - our fan motor is due in tonight and the tech is supposed to bring it out and install it tomorrow morning. Rather than go in late, I decided to just stay home and be all domestical and stuff. So yay for 2 days off in a row!

Scruffy scared me this morning when we came back in from our morning pee ( that’s the royal “our” - I don’t pee in the yard… as far as you know…) Anyway, she wouldn’t put her right front paw down. I tried feeling it to see if she had a splinter or something, and she never flinched, but she wouldn’t put weight on it. But when I got home, she was fine. Who knows what it was… stoopit dog.

Now you’re all caught up. And I need to figger out something for supper. So I’ll be back. Happy Monday!

Incidentally, Kat, I really don’t have a nickname here either - just initials. Not that it bothers me. No, really, it doesn’t. Not a bit. Nope. I’m fine.

Sure, I know where Triton is, I’ve been by there. Good luck getting what you want.

I’m home, started some laundry, I’m going to steam a dog or two for dinner, then go sit outside and read the rest of the book I’m working on.

If Evil Fat Scarlett lets me off the couch, she’s pretty happy with me here.

Well, if you insist, Flittering Yakking Maternal Person…nah, FCM is easier to type.

Yay on saving 3K on your car insurance! Boo on sitting on hold for so long. Although I do sympathize – Papa Tigs asked me to try to find him a physical therapy shop that could see him before July 16  so I called around all over the place. And the one ditzy young woman who put me on semi-terminal hold? Offered me the delightful date of July 25.  I finally found a place close to home that can see him next Monday, July 9, which was the absolute best I could do for him. Even though I still think that’s a completely ridiculously long time to have to wait.

Speaking of Papa Tigs, he survived his day at work, although he’s pretty wiped out, to no one’s surprise. At least it’s a quiet week at work, what with so many people taking an extended weekend. Like you are, FCM, taking two days off so you end up with five in a row. A nice way to do it if you can afford to take the time off!

Back to the salt mines. I’m feeling over-salted right now, too.

Thanks folks. I’m still getting to know the various camera settings, so not everything is coming out as good as I’d like, but most of them I think turned out pretty spiffy this time.

Hank - I am in one of them. Ignore the hair. It was windy enough that the parasol over the table kept spinning around and blinding me with the sun, so any attempts to become camera-ready were foiled rather soundly.

MindDude–um, those are garden fairies, not angels! Very purty, too.

I likes the fireworks and all.

Dinner is done, and time for class.
Also, I went over and got my F/U chest x-ray done (CXR), so it’ll be ready for the doctor tomorrow. I’m down to work 2 days this week–both 0530-2pm. Not sure if he’ll release me-to me, the CXR looks no different.

I’ve been dined and margaritaed. Good steak and chicken fajitas at that place. It’s the fairly new one that we’ve eaten lunch at once and liked. Since there was a coupon for buy one get one free dinner (we’re romantic, just cheap romantics) I got taken there tonight. Good margarita too! Biiiiiiig margarita with lots of tequila. So, while I’m not pstogin dukrn, I am posting slightly buzzed.

The rain never showed up. Instead it is hot and humid and feels like it’s gonna rain but won’t. Le sigh.

Yay on the car insurance quote FCM. I have home and auto with State Farm that’s really reasonable. One of the reasons it has remained so, is that from time to time I do check out their competition and if I get better rate quotes on home and auto insurance, I show my agent written proof and voila or viola if you prefer a stringed instrument, he meets it. Never hurts to remind 'em of the competition out there.

Mindude you’re cute! Who’s that holdin’ ya? :stuck_out_tongue:

Well home from work. Hope everybody had a good Canada day. I’m making steak and baked **N.O.T.**s.

Cite, please.

Glad you’re OK BBBobbio!

Happy anniversary, An Arky!!

Rebo, that spunds tasty. Wanna adopt me?

taxi Dot still posts on The Dope from time toi time.

Nava, I hope you get better soon.

meli, band camp, huh?

Bookcat, glad you found a home for the cats, and an apartment for you.

MissHaze, I didn’t read either. Can I be punished?

FCM, I save 50% switching to Geico.

Mork, that shaved Pom looks just like a fat fox.

I think the hair makes you look dashing and windblown.

stern look at dogbutler It is not for you to ask for your punishment. It is for me as you mistr… er, teacher to deal it as I see fit.

MBG, I read the phrase “steam a dog or two for dinner” several times before I realized you meant hot dogs. :smack: I guess I’m more used to Korean culture than I thought I was.

Bad Chinese fed us tonight - wasn’t that nice of them? I gave **FCD ** a choice - the leftover frozen veggie soup I found in the freezer (I was gonna warm it up, so hush!) or Bad Chinese. Guess he didn’t want soup. So I’ve got lunch for tomorrow.

I also figured out why the one cushion was such a pain and why it’s not flat - it’s actually supposed to be 2" taller than the other one. Silly me - I didn’t measure - I just assumed they were the same. There’s a lesson in there somewhere… So I gotta redo it. Guess I know what I’ll be up to tomorrow.

**doggiebut ** - so what do you think about Geico, apart from the money saving part? Do they treat you well?

Even more important, did you get to meet the caveman? The gecko?

Hey, **Haze ** - I just remembered a question I had for you. I was reading a newspaper article about the president of South Korea and his name was spelled Roh, but the phonetic “translation” indicated it is pronounced “No” - so what’s the deal? Why wouldn’t it be written in English the way we would expect to say it? Or is that one of those inscrutible Asian things?? (Or was that an incredibly insensitive stereotype that I just perpetuated??? :o )

On hold again with Geico trying to get all the details worked out. sheesh.

OK, practically to page 2 by the end of the day Monday is a little much, isn’t it?

Haven’t we called you anything but your initials O Magical Patroness? (Hey, I’m tired, it’s the best I could do with nearly no thought). Gonna have to work on one for Kat.

Hi Maggie and An Arky(I’ve always admired your name and can’t think of a nick yet…)

Sorry for everyone who’s feeling unwell.

Yay on the new job for DH and the new washer and dryer, gotti.

Cool pics, Mork.

I got the impression somewhere along the line that Rue also let his membership here lapse.

Work was long and stressful. How unusual.

I’m gonna go take two liberry books back before they close.

Back later…

GT

Heh. I’ve wondered that myself. Some Koreans use odd spellings for the English versions of their names: the Korean surname Park, for example, is pronounced something closer to Bahk. Lee and Rhee are more like Ee (as in seek or meek). Choi is actually Choe. (long o, short e: oh-eh). I’m not sure what the deal is with the “Roh” spelling. I know that people who spell their name Rhee are from different clan than those who spell it Lee (although in Korean both are pronounced Ee). Roh might be a clan quirk, or it might be a decision based on the fact that No sounds like, er, no. I’d guess they wouldn’t want their name to be associated with a negative English word.

In other news, I am majorly pissed at my brother right now - I just checked his cell phone bill - which our parents give us money for, by the way. **315** in international calls!!!!!!! #%&*@!!!

There are no words. He does NOTHING around the house, has no job, no classes in the summer - it’s absolutely brazen of him to pull something like this. Jesus. I am thinking of telling my parents to leave him high and dry this time around. Let him figure it out for himself. This is ridiculous.

FCM, I’ve had Geico for 8 years now. I’ve never had any problems, and they’re always prompt and helpful, and they’ve always double-checked that I’m getting the lowest rate. I had one claim, from when I backed into the idiot neighbor’s car, but I was at-fault with no damage at all to my car (I really don’t think that I was the one who actually hit the car, but they insisted that it had been me, and it *could *have been me.) He wanted me to pay him cash, I think, and was extremely disappointed that he had to file a claim. I was dead broke at the time, so it was easier to let my rates go up a bit, than to try to pay him $1,000 for the damage he never repaired. Anyway, I like Geico, and every time I get quotes from other places, they’re always less expensive than the other guys. They were also the only company that would cover me when I had less than 5 years driving experience, so I’m partial to them for that, too.

how about Kitty?

FCM, I haven’t had a clain with them, so I don’t know. I am getting more coverage for less money that when I had Nationwide.

swampy, the caveman was still frozen when I signed up, but I had tea and crickets with the gecko.

Yes, Miss Haze.
