Slightly more than a 3-hour tour – a sea-going MMP

Gaaaaaaaaaaaah! I didn’t even do anything and now I have 99 Luft Balloons stuck in my head!

Twinks, I thought you loved me! :frowning:

I had another crazed week, wrote a nice newsy post only to have the computer swallow it, now here it is Monday again!

What I remember from my last week’s response:

Thanks for the cotton photos VB it looks like a pretty plant. I do love growing things, and I have read so much of cotton growing (yeah, I like me some Deep South novels) with the bloom and the formation of the bolls, I love watching growing things develop. Much the same as fruit blooms dropping petals and the tiny fruits growing larger until they ripen, I suppose it’s the fascination with the way the world can get all ugly and urban, and yet nature implacable continues to follow the seasons. I have no romantic ideals of cotton farming, and looking at my hands, even as worn as they are, I have never picked cotton, and I am thankful that wasn’t part of my life. Oh, and I saw little Maddy out there, did you know that last year there were only 27 French Bulldog litters registered? She is a rare dog, your Maddy. Boxers are a lovely dog, natural boxers are winning in the ring, and I think they are a prettier with their ears and tails.

LiLi, I hope you’re doing better, it bites to be benched in the summer. I have to ask about The Husbands, there seems to be a few, [Lewis Black voice]and I am confused[/end LBv].

mika as soon as I am done catching up I am going to go look at your new apartment. Congratulations, I hope it becomes a home, and that you won’t have any more centipede problems. :: I’ll live here with the bears, but bugs freak me out! ::

Spats the small medium large joke is destined to become a classic in my arsenal of groaners, thank you very much!

Cool site db, the poster is funny. We sell post cards up here with things like crewmen lying on a load of fish/crab, same kind of humor. Thanks!

Now I am here today! Congratulations fcm, it sounds like a good time was had in pretty much all aspects. I don’t sail, but I’ve run around in a variety of watercraft, and it seems to me that most voyages have mishaps, it’s part of the adventure. I figure that as long as we don’t have to call in a mayday it’s all good. Watch out for your shoulder, it bites to have a sore wing. Again, congratulations!

It’s stories like yours, Twinkie, which make me happy to have put myself on The Rock, very glad that you were alert and avoided tragedy. I do not miss traffic. Oh, and I am a wuss, I just say no to roller coasters!

Last Wednesday I had a Very Good Day, which included a trip to the beach with my good friend. We both brought dogs and sat on the beach for a couple of hours with the sun on our backs and a breeze in our faces while the dogs raced around the beach. We were the only people there, which is something else I love about Kodiak.

That night I woke up in the night and the bed was wet, from the top of the covers down to the mattress, as well as my nightgown. Again, I was confused. After a minute or so I realized that it was raining quite hard, and the stupid roof was leaking again, only this time it was on me! I changed into a dry gown and moved over to the other side of the bed after putting my big bread dough bowl on the wet side to collect the drippage. Thursday and Friday were spent in rearranging the furniture, my husband can handle the roof when he gets home. At least the rain stopped Friday, and Saturday and Sunday were sunny and warm. We grilled both nights, my friend came over Saturday for grilled steak, roasted new N.O.T.'s and garlic cloves w/ E.X. olive oil, salt and rosemary, and crudites with ranch dip, cuz the kids like it. My friend is like an auntie to my kids, and she and my son made s’mores and we joked and had a good time. Last night it was just the kids and I, grilled cheeseburgers, N.O.T. salad and the rest of the raw veggies. The Son made more s’mores, and after the kids cleaned up they went inside and I stayed out on the deck to watch the moonrise. It’s been a while since I have done that. The stars began to twinkle, and I simply sat in the gathering darkness and let my mind wander. I highly recommend this as a stress reliever, it was wonderful.

Here’s hoping that this week goes a little more smoothly!

Oh yeah? Well I don’t know that song, so HA! :stuck_out_tongue:

You’re quite welcome. I make no claims to be the originator of that joke, however. Just passing it along.

 You don’t know 99 Luft Balloons?

Kids these days!

My thoughts exactly. I’ve lost respect for him, I think.

Spats be glad you don’t know the balloon song. You don’t want to know. I think an extremely cruel form of punishment would be to tie somebody to a chair and force him or her to listen to 99 Luft Balloons over and over and over and over and over…

Have I mentioned yet that I hate billing?

Sorry, everybody. I should have spoiler boxed the song title. I didn’t mean to be so cruel (except to Spats, who escaped unharmed). That’s OK – when we have our MMP gathering at the Faire, we can sing it to him. And he’ll never forget it. Especially since I sing far worse than Nena.

Well, it’s been a while since I posted here. The MMP is always too long by the time I get here to get all the way through it. I’ve been working my butt off (unfortunately not literally) for the past couple months, even more so for the past couple weeks when I was also filling in for someone on vacation. I haven’t been online much and when I am online I read more than I post.

I wish I had a boat, but then I’d have to learn how to sail it. What I need is a new car, one with air conditioning. I have one final payment on my bankruptcy and then I can get myself in debt again with a new car! With air conditioning!

My house looks like one of those collectors homes with piles of junk everywhere and a small pathway to walk. My brother brought over a bunch of my mom’s stuff last weekend and I had no where else to put it but in the living room - which was already packed with my dozen or so rubbermaid storage containers. I bought a rack for storing those containers on, I just need time to clear a spot in my spare room or garage for it so I can get them organized. Then once I clear a spot I will have to go through all my mom’s stuff and sort it into keep, donate/sell/or give away piles. My brother said they sold some stuff they didn’t think was important or that anyone would want but I bet he sold stuff that I would want because there’s too much junk in this stuff. There are a few good things. My mom collected porcelain dolls and there are a few collectable ones in there, The Franklin Mint’s Princess Di in her wedding dress and Scarlett O’Hara. I may sell the Princess Di, Charles and Queen E2 ones but I am going to keep Scarlett.

I did get her surger sewing machine, which I don’t know how to use. Maybe I’ll take a sewing class? My mother tried to teach me to sew and I can do a middlin’ job when I have to, but I am not very good at using the sewing machines - they hate me and tend to go all kaflooie and chew things up. Maybe I just need to learn to speak their language?

I also have a new kitten. It was flea anemic and I nursed it back to health. My youngest cat fell in love with her so I couldn’t give her away, because none of the other cats will play with him. I know the rules about cat pics but I only have phone pics and so far I haven’t been able to upload them online. You’ll just have to take my word for it that she’s adorable. She’s part Siamese and she has very slightly crossed eyes. Her name is Luna. I tend to call her Luna Toons.

Well, lots to do. Toodles!

Kajagoogoo - “Too Shy”

Ooo, me too! I sing awfully. I watched the Leonard Bernstein production of Candide this weekend and it was quite entertaining. The main song is the two protagonists singing to each other “Cunegonde…Candide…” So I was singing that in the shower yesterday. Only I was beat, so I was being silly and blowing bubble between each line.

Me, at the top of my lungs: “Cunegonde!” :blows bubbles:
“Candide!” :blows bubbles:

When I came out the SO gave me the oddest look.

Speaking of the faire, I’m having a really hard time putting together a costume in the middle of all this moving and packing. I’m thinking of two things:

  1. Buying a costume, yuck!
  2. Maybe using some things I have at home to make a gypsy style costume. I could make a really good gypsy costume, except it’s not precisely Ren Faire. What do you guys think?
  3. Yes I’m making a list with only two items. Or I was, anyway.

 NOOOOOOO!!! [sub]for what it’s worth, you did manage to get “76 trombones” stuck in my head[/sub]

You misspelled “Hi, Opal!”

Just sayin’.

I was handed a four page list of jobs that have yet to be billed. I have to find out why these haved been invoiced yet. Some of them go back to 2004, the year I was hired here.
You ain’t telling me nothing, swampy.

VBob glad the abattoir is getting put to good use. Or at least some use.

Howdy, folks!

You know, I’ve never really liked Mondays. Today was an example of why. I made the long trek to the supposed new job assignment. It involved taking two buses and then walking a certain distance. It’s nice and cool today compared to what it was, so the walk was pleasant if a tad sweaty. So I get there, and the boss lady of the collections department tells me to call the temp agency, leaving me there–while she takes the other temps back to start training. Uh oh.

So I call, and lo and behold, I’m not supposed to be there. You’d think they could have told me this when I went to take the drug test, as the lab tech there had to call the temp agency about their information form. But no. So I headed back, opting this time to take a cab back to the nearest bus stop. I waited and waited and then consulted my schedule to be sure. You guessed it–I had missed the bus because I’d checked the wrong time. In walking to a different stop on the other side of the street, for the bus which would arrive in fifteen minutes, I tripped, fell, and aggravated the ankle injury I’d gotten when I fell in April. I can walk on it, don’t worry, though today I am going to rest it.

I went to the temp agency to talk to them. They apologized for the crossed wires. I apologized, too, as it was partly my fault; I should have called one last time just to be sure. They have some other things they’re checking out for me; one is an accountant/bookkeeper position for a local company that’s temp-to-permanent. We’ll see.

That’s the point! I hate saying that and refuse to.

Good, because, lordy, it’s played.

Today I’m being grumpy. I shall portray the rest of the dwarves later.

:: offers up a pre-emptive hankie :: (band name!)

Hi guys!

I’ve been so busy I wasn’t able to keep up with last week’s MMP. Shame on me!

I like the MMP this week, FCM. I’ve got Sailing by Christopher Cross stuck in my head!

I was off Friday and went to the HalfPrice bookstore with my dad. We bought a lot of clearance books for 50 cents each. And we went to James Coney Island for lunch.

I also bought a blender, with an attachment thingie that’s a food processor. I haven’t had one in the longest time. So of course I had to buy stuff to make smoothies! Yum!

Last night I barbecued ribs in the rain. It was worth it! Ribs and NOT salad and fresh corn on the cob and Ranch Style Beans. I love me some Ranch Style Beans.

The rest of the weekend I cleaned like a crazy woman, and I now have a very clean kitchen and a somewhat clean rest of the house.

And I watched two movies - Flight Plan with Jodie Foster which was meh, and Cinderella Man with Russell Crowe which was GREAT! I liked it a lot.

:sighs: Well at least 99 Luft Balloons has been replaced.

Sailing,
take me away
to where I’ve always dreamed I could be

Hush, hush. That’s awful. Since we’re stuck in the 80’s, though, how about Karma Chameleon.

**Mika ** - costume prices are ridiculous! A gypsy stlye costume would be great! Most costumes I’ve seen are some combination of: a flowy skirt (or two) in a solid color or simple print, a blouse with no buttons/zips/snaps, and something around your middle – a bodice, belt, scarves, whatever. You can even buy just the bodice, and put together the pieces. There’s also a costume rental booth – small selection, but not too expensive. Of course, there’s always street clothes (“mundanes,” in renspeak). That’s an option only if **Drae ** will still be seen with us in mundanes!

Um, I seem to have the NSYNC version of that song in my head.

Shut up.
