Smokin' in the MMP

Happy Toosday!

It’s a pretty day today, the sun is shining, the birds are singing, 57 degrees going up to 70.

Was late to the park as I spent 45 minutes on the phone with the infernal revenue service this morning. Got the answers to my questions.

The government sucks, but the irs sucks even harder.

Have to go pick up the groceries that I ordered last night.
Then I am home for the rest of the day.

Taking 'Beamette to the doctors this morning. No plans other than that, at least right now.

Trying to pay property taxes. The San Diego Treasurer’s bill pay checkout appears to be inoperative. Now I’m on hold on the phone.

Lunch is frozen crap but it’s already paid for so there is that.

Mommmmmm On Amazon Prime music I found the soundtrack for *Poldark * Not bad. I have a small Bluetooth speaker in my office so am enjoying the orchestral music.

Later

Now I have two dogs who will get the mail.
One who brings it to me, one who runs off with it and tries to chew it into tiny bits.

Fortunately, most of what I get is junk.

But do they eat homework?

I got the plastic off without having to consult experts here or on the “intartoobz”! Yay! I waited until the mess hardened, and most of it peeled off but left a nasty residue. I soaked it with a little boiling water, and scraped off some with a plastic scraper. There was still a hard smear, though. Then I thought, “Aha! Goo Gone!” Spritzed some on, and the rest came right off!

dogbutler, what’s an eye burner? Sounds like something from the unexpected Spanish Inquisition.

Today’s plans are to take my babushka cart and walk to the grocery store and liquor store. I have house guests coming Wednesday, so let the baking commence! First order of business: apple pecan whiskey cakes.

Howdy Y’all! Saw the doc and the vampires this mornin’. In and out in an hour, so YAY! 'Tis a good steady rain out and all the laundry is done. YAY again! Next up is the makeage of sup.

Nellie yay for gettin’ the plastic off the stove top.

The electric metal coil thingie. Also what you might need if **swampy ** does the “Dance Of The Seven Veils”, while wearing his gold lame thong.

And NOBODY EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION!

Nah, the computer is too high up for them to reach, and their paws are too fat to use the keyboard

Home from grocery pickup.
Another milestone for Echo, she jumped into the truck by herself.

Is he a traditionalist? Who would want to use real wood/charcoal? Or would he be OK with an electric model?

Before getting mine, I consulted our family smoking expert, who provides a lot of pork and brisket for gatherings. His recommendation was to go electric, as the taste is indistinguishable and it’s much easier to manage the temperature. In fact, he recommended the MasterBuilt MES130B specifically, and that’s what I got. He also recommended a remote meat thermometer so I could see the internal temps without opening the door.

My eldest is a traditionalist, claiming it ain’t smokin’ if there’s no fire. He prefers the Oklahoma Joe dual fuel version. I’ve eaten at his house too, and must admit it’s awesome.

The big advantage of the electric, is you can leave to run errands confident it will hold the exact temp you’ve set – and if you run late, it will turn off when it’s time also. The advantage of the Oklahoma Joe I linked to, is you also get two grills and in the bargain along with the offset smoker, one propane, one charcoal. If you want to get all three at once, $499 ain’t a bad price.

On edit: Everyone I talked to advised avoiding the glass door models if you go electric. Looks good in the showroom, but the glass is quickly rendered opaque by the smoke and too much trouble to clean each time.

You, er, mention that often.

A big finishing deadline for a big project (my first as any kind of lead) is on Friday. I’m planning to celebrate by taking some days off early next week (haven’t taken more than one in a row since June). But I’m trying to decide how many. Two seems okay, as does three. After it’s all done, I’ll have three weeks of PTO left even if I take three; I’m fine with that amount in reserve (one for illness, one for miscellaneous emergency, one to play with as I will in the future).

I mean, I’d just stay home and play video games most of the time, but it’ll be hella nice just to sleep in. So I’m trying to figure out by tomorrow if the third day is worth it, or if I should just keep it.

Hmmmm.

My smoker is a Masterbuilt Signature Series. I can’t recall when I bought it, but it’s been a few years. I’ve used it with and without smoke, and after the first couple of uses, I quit trying to keep the interior looking like new - it’s just too much work. I clean out the grease and scrub the shelves, but I no longer care that the walls look dirty.

Supper tonight will be mahi-mahi, crescent rolls, and sides TBD.

And today, RoxStar is 18 months old!! How time flies!

That sounds yum!

We have a Lil Chief smoker in the cupboard on the patio that hasn’t been out of there for prolly 15 years. we last used it to smoke some salmon as I recall.
And around here, the smoker to have is apparently a Traeger.

We just got back last night from 4 days at the compound in Central Orygun. No internet there yet so we had to do things like gasp read  and even worse, talk to each other.:eek:
TheGirlChild[sup]tm[/sup] and her hubby and #3Granddaughter came over too and we had a good time. It was nice to have a house full of happy people again. Not that we’re never happy, but we aren’t a house full. You know what I mean.

We stopped at Sawatdee on the way home and got 2 orders of mango curry for our dinner last night. Turns out we only ate one order between the two of us,, so leftover curry for dinner tonight I’m thinkin’.

Gotta leave in a few minutes to take the pups for haircuts and run a couple of errands.

Ciao

Electric smokers are great; really easy for a casual smoker-user to get good results. But give me my old-fashioned indirect firebox Brinkman. I really can play the flavor profile with the wood better and besides ----- flames, sharp objects, chopping, danger. What’s not to love?

Me and my shift (about 35 people?) unloaded, broke into routes, loaded and cleaned up after almost 15k packages this AM. GOD HELP ME ------- I LOVE IT!!!

Ignorance fought. I thought they were just called “burners.” Apparently I’ve led a sheltered life. I was really nervous about Googling “eye burner,” being the squeamish type–though I ain’t skeert of no gold lamé thong.

I must blushingly admit they’re pretty popular, though that might be due to the hooch in the honey whiskey glaze.

We used to have an electric smoker that is best described as shaped like a bullet which served our needs. We only ever did pork shoulders in it. Nothing fancy or expensive.

Flashbacks, mans. Flashbacks.
Dinner is eaten, now time for late night hockey.

I had a cool little fire smoker I used for a few years but it didn’t have all its parts … it was an end of the season “as is” sale off the floor at WalMart …we used it 6 or 7 times …

the other eternal debate in the world of outdoors cooked meat is charcoal or gas … once in a while, you get someone who still uses wood…

not much going on here but the preholiday grouches …namely the fact aunt doesn’t have thousands the wants to spend/waste on Xmas …which gets spent on things that dont get used or played with once or twice and the last grandchild seems to be moving out of toys even faster than ever and wants game consoles and electronics …

and the colds going around dont help because it doesn’t matter who came here for weeks on end coughing and sneezing in the only bringer of the plagues in the neighborhood…

but i shall persevere or commit mass murder …I’m getting to not care about which one happens
