Good Mornin’ Y’all! Up and caffeinatin’. YAWN ‘Tis 71 Amurrkin out and rainy with a predicted high of 79 and mostly cloudy for the afternoon/evenin’. The rain is supposed to clear out this mornin’. We shall see. Tonight’s low is predicted to be 49! BRRRRRR!!! Mr. Jim’s memorial service is today and that shall take up a large part of my day. Committals are usually done outside at the Columbarium but given the weather today we may have to shift that to inside in the Parish Hall or do it in the church at the end of the service which is my preference. However, EYP makes that call, not me. I shall put off goin’ to the grocery sto’ until tomorrow as I do not want to put on goin’ about the public attire twice in one day. Also, I will get to deal with trash over to the church house when all is said and done today. There will be a N.O.L. for the family prior to the service.
Now I need more caffeine and rumbly tummy wants to be fed. Then I suppose I should go ahead and purtify, but won’t don funeral attire until I have to do so.
I don’t usually care about sports, but for some reasons, I lurves me some Washington Nationals! Even tho most of the guys on the team look like such babies… do their mommies know what they’re doing??
Anyway, my boys are on their way to the World Series, which makes me happy.
And it’s gonna rain today. And we’re having meatloaf for supper. And I think that’s pretty much it.
**doggio **- your “flashbacks” comment cracked me up!
So yesterday, in recognition of our hard work for the recently-concluded project, our managers took the entire team out golfing at Top Golf. Twas fun, the food was good, happiness all around. And now, this morning, the tennis elbow that I forgot about yesterday under the influence of ibuprofen, has returned to bite me in the… elbow. Going to be a painful next few hours.
Electric smokers are cheating. I have two smokers (down from three), a horizontal one with an offset firebox & a vertical, propane one, used for colder weather smoking, but at least there’s fire involved.
I was looking forward to boys in blue vs. pinstripes. If ::gasp:: the 'Stros win, I might not even watch. However, iffn it plays out right, I’m going to get one of those things on my bucket list - the bestest type of parade down the Canyon of Heroes! Bear, one could go to the fud provisions sto dressed fancy-like; that is allowed, you know.
It aint the gold lamé thong, per se; that’s just a piece of fabric. It’s Swampy in the gold lamé thong strutting around like he’s on the catwalk that makes this necessary.
Morning all. Grouchy that the Cardinals managed to get swept (not mad they lost, but that they lost so ineptly). Rain did come overnight, but looks to dry out today (only getting to 65F). Nothing much on the schedule, may clean out my car some.
mandala, we have a Top Golfplace here, easy to spot with all the protective netting to keep windshields intact.
We are now down to one pet. Princess Allie (the cat) is fine, but I woke up to find Ava deceased. She was at least 17 (we do not know how old she was when we met her at the end of 2002).
I have about half an hour to decide, and DH’s emotional condition is also a consideration. He’s not in the best of shape with the injury and recovery process to begin with.
Got home from the park early, just as the rain was starting.
Got a load in the washer, so I’ll have something clean to wear to the vets.
I don’t mind going to the park in dirty clothes, nothing is going to stay clean there anyway. I always get a muddy paw print or two on me, along with drool and hair.
Hugs Nettie on the loss of Ava. You had her a long time. My baby has been gone less that 4 months and there is not a day, minute I don’t think and miss him. Getting another dog helped but he is not my best boy and he is a hellion to boot. Cutting out his balls made no difference at all.
My girls’ bought me lunch for National Bosses’ day. I had a grilled chicken sammie and fries from Miami Subs. Was good. Leaving early at 2PM for an appt to get my hairs did. It is way overdue.
Home from the vet.
The look on Ripple’s face when he got his prostate exam was priceless.
It is raining hard, so everybody is happy to be home and indoors where it is dry.
I’m going to try to convince everybody that we need a nap.
My electric smoker has an opening on the side with a small container for wood chips. You load in the chips, slide the container all the way in, then rotate it. The chips drop into a bin above the heating element which gets them hot enough to smoke. They’re eventually reduced to ash.
Easy-peasy!
Meatloaf and russets in the oven. I’ll cook up some green-beans-n-onions a little closer to supper time, and I’ll probably slice up a couple of Amish 'maters.
It’s been raining most of the day - quite the challenge to load Roxy in the car while holding an umbrella over us. But we made it home with minimal dampage, so yay!!
Mrs. L.A. went off to see a patient, so I slipped off to the store while she was gone and make soup.
2 quarts Chicken stock
2 baby bok choi, chopped
1 zucchini, sliced and halved
¾ pound white button mushrooms
¼ yellow onion, chopped large
1 carrot, sliced (I actually used several baby carrots, since that’s what’s in the fridge)
Some Chinese BBQ pork
12 frozen chicken dumplings from Trader Joe’s
Kosher salt
Mrs. L.A. had to add a little salt, which she never does; so I added another pinch to the pot.
Charlie rocketing your hooch and Swampy in his thong; both things you almost dread surviving.
The BEST one I ever owned was a vertical with an offset firebox; Brinkman. When it needed replacing I just couldn’t afford the cost — or could but couldn’t justify it. I mean ------- it’s a smoker. It’s not like its a cannon or anything useful. (I won it in a drawing at the Big Smelly Cigar Store)
“Smoke is created by putting wood above the heating element and letting it smolder. But electrics don’t usually produce the needed combustion gases, so the flavor is different and there is no smoke ring, the pink layer of meat on the outside that says “Southern barbecue”.”
Home from getting my grays covered one more time. One day I’m gonna say screw it and go gray. My hairdresser works out of a little corner of a bar. The Snip and Sip. The smell of stale cigarettes on the walk through the joint to her little corner is sickening. Her little shop smells like hair products. How in the world did I ever smoke?
Home now playing with the hellion. Don’t know what shall be supper and don’t care. Could just go without if it was just me. For some reason hubby likes to eat every single night.
Gonna have to get that smoker soon. I am craving smoked meat.
Howdy Y’all! Home from funeralizin’. Well, been home for a little over an hour. 'Twas a beautiful service. There were four cute little Navy boys at the Committal to do the flag ceremony and play taps. I get the snifflies every time I hear taps. Got a little sniffly when we sang The Navy Hymn. Note this is an especially sniffly version.
I et N.O.L. there because, well, I was there and there was a ton o’ foods. I told OYKW (he was there for the funeral) I was way full so didn’t want any sup and he was on his own. One of the ladies (a very good friend) heard me say that and took him into the kitchen and loaded him up with three, three, I say, containers of stuff to take home for his sup. Spoiled. Rotten. Brat. I lurves him though.
As luck would have it hubby had to go to good place to irk on one of their A/C’s and is bringing home supper so that is sorted.
Does anyone want a puppy? He is all caught up on his shots and neutered. Mostly house trained. He is a hellion though. Comes with lots of food, toys, crate and pen.
