Sneevil, come here. A word.

Did I post at the end of a thread again? Or maybe most of you went to work (which I hope to do soon when I become re-employed).

Well, I promised to stay out of this one, and kept it until now. However, when I booted up the computer, this message was mysteriously on the screen (word of God?).

There once was a poster named Snivel
Whose life-goal it was just to quibble
Let’s call him a troll
And leave him to roll
About in his still-foaming drivel. *

I love limericks. I think I like you people. I’ll hang here from my web for a while and try not to get roasted to a crisp.

I approve of most religions and peoples’ rights to practice them as long as they don’t hurt anyone else. The ones I like the best are those that actively try to help people. I occasionally go to a Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in my city (which doesn’t meet in the summer because: no air conditioning, and can’t afford it). Some of the people who also attend profess to be Wiccan, Pagan, Jewish, Christian, athiest, agnostic. . . . to name a few. This fellowship belongs to an interfaith partnership called GRIP which works towards common goals such as better housing and diversity education issues. I like the idea of everyone being welcome, and working for the common good.
Someone once told me that the old testament word for God, Yaweh, meant unknowable, and that is a concept that fits nicely in my brain. I don’t know LOTS of things. Any verification on the Yaweh concept out there?

P.S. Is it okay to post here if I am just asking questions and not ranting?

There once was a poster named myrr
Don’t know if a him or a her
Had a slit and a sack
Made it’s living on its back

There once was a poster named byz
Who walked around with a mouth full of jiz
They said she’s a nutter
She spat and then sputtered
“I’m not a nut, just a slut”

Okay, I’m going to do copy/paste Byz’s prior post and respond, but in a friendlier manner:

I have long hair
Me, too.
I’m bisexual
I’m straight
I drive a Subaru
Chevy truck, here
I’m basically retired at thirty-four
I’m 29, pathetically far away from retirement
I’ve never been married
me, either
I have no children
me, either
I don’t use drugs or drink
no drugs, drink occasionally
I give about 20 hours a week to community service projects
nope, but I do try to help when I’m needed, or give when it’s needed
I vote
me, too, sometimes

Also, I’m Christian. Full-fledged Jesus Freak, and happy to be. I would also like to say that I have many friends of differing religions and values, different orientation, differing opinions, etc. For the record, I do not think that Sneevil is a Christian. Not by any stretch of the imagination. I am not trying to judge, I am making a statement based on facts. In his posts, I cannot see once where he has posted with anything close to a Christian-like attitude. From what I have read, if I were a judge, I would never convict him of being a Christian based on lack of evidence. If he were the only example of christianity that I had, I would convert. I may sound like I am judging, for which I apologize. But I am angry that someone would represent themselves in the manner that he is and try to associate himself with the brother/sisterhood of Christ and continue to behave in such a hateful manner. It makes me sad to think that people might believe all Christians are like that. I have very strong opinions, true, and I may not always agree with what my friends believe, but I also know that Jesus said to act with love in all things. So, Sneevil, where’s the love?

Most of the people who use this term use it in the context of a woman who sleeps with many men. Conversely, most of these same people call men who sleep with many women, studs. In any case, I fail to see what the last two limericks have to do with any of the previous discussion. Are they possibly just for shock value?

None, you fucking son of a bitch. For unlike you, I don’t sleep with anything that walks across my path. But hey, I’ve moved up. Now instead of an “anti-theist,” I’m a “freakin’ wack job!” YES!

And no, my Goddess isn’t “gaeia.” I’d explain, but I doubt you’d get it. What’s your God’s name, hmmmm? (Damn, I’m almost sorry I’m no longer a Catholic. Wonder what you’d say about THAT.)

Oh, and nice “mutation” of my username. Very 6th grade.

In the post subject part of my last post, the word slut was left out. That’s what I was talking about.

Perhaps Sneevil is a Christian, but needs an anger management class. Some of his stuff sounds almost sane, and then we get limericks attacking people about things of which he has no knowledge, presumably, so again, he is attacking the messenger and not the message. What a waste of limericks. I bet you could come up with some really good UNnasty limericks, Sneevil, because you have intelligence that you seem to use when it is not clouded by anger.

Since Sneevil’s away for a few minutes I can make a request.

It’s clear that he’s thriving on the attention. It’s also clear that he’s a total nutjob.

Falc, Byz, Freakly, everyone, please, starve him. Please.

Start another thread elsewhere? Interesting to hear some of the differing viewpoints about religion and practicing it.

I’m not sure what your motivation is here. If you are truly new to these boards, then welcome.

The pit is not always the best area to hang out in at first, entertaining as it may seem. There are many forums on this board where all kinds of conversations are happening. Try them, you will find some great people, plus a few dipsticks.

Here in the pit, you are hanging out in a thread where there some people majorly pissed at one Dickhead (Snivel). Please keep in mind that if you are easily offended or insulted this is not the appropriate forum for you. We recommend asbestos undies around here.

Hi there, Spider Woman, welcome to the Straight Dope.

Your best bet for comparative religions is the Great Debates forum. It can get awfully bizarre over there, but religion is a very common topic.

Hi! I got here from a different thread where coerced oral sex was being discussed. Probably wouldn’t be my first choice to listen in on people calling people names. Some of it has been very interesting, so maybe I’ll do a search on some posts of the people who interest me and hop on a thread there. Spider Women like threads. Bye.

I really didn’t want to post to this thread. I am of the opinion, and have been for some time, that Sneevil is a complete jackass, and has really contributed nothing of value to this board. He is here only to raise hackles and tempers and is doing a very good job of it. Which leads me to one conclusion - but before that, I’d like to introduce a few exchanges between him and me that underline my point.

From That does it…we’re all fucked:

I said:

A post not even directed towards him. Herewith, his reply:

Ah, the pleasantries of a well-opened debate.

From the ill-starred Ask the Commie Bastard:

Looks like pepperlandgirl doesn’t have the monopoly on wishing death on others.

Then, of course, I see this morning he’s dragged my headache and crankiness-inspired Oldscratch, you twit!! in here for God knows what reason. I’m still trying to figure that one out. Just another opportunity to heap ill-founded invective on someone else.

CONCLUSION

So that’s my case. Sneevil is a sorry excuse for a Doper and a worthless addition to the SDMB. I can see from the length and scope of this thread that flaming him would only be an exercise in raising my blood pressure and lowering my good humor, such as it is. So I won’t.

Which is not to say, however, that I would shed anything close to a tear if I were to see his sorry ass banned.

Andros, sorry for not following your well-considered request, but I have to make one comment:

Sneevil, I for one do have an idea of an absolute moral code. It consists of two sentences, orders if you will, from my own personal Lord and Savior. They weren’t new with him; they’re both in the Torah, and were identified as the core of proper Jewish practice by a brilliant rabbi named Hillel about a century before Jesus. (To be fair, there are about a half-dozen other statements of His that I use to fit them to the individual circumstances, stuff like “Judge not” and “Return good for evil…”)

They make it clear to me that I should not judge Falcon, or Byzantine, or Pepperlandgirl, or Jodi, for whatever they may or may not be doing, and most especially for what they do to make this world a better place to live. And as far as I can see, everything else is relative to the keeping of those two commandments.

As far as I’m concerned, to quote a Fundamentalist, “Jesus said them, I believe them, that settles it.” I’ve posted at length about them over on the Christianity and Love threads in Great Debates.

If you are so hot for an absolute moral code, go take a look. Because what you’re doing here is clearly the work of evil, IMHO, and maybe you need to wake up and see that.

(I realize that I’m doing nothing but setting myself up for a flame, but it’s my duty to try.)

Sigh. It’s tough, but I’ll forgive you, Poly.

Well said.

I’m not dodging the question. I have clearly stated that I have a moral standard. Period. That’s it. It doesn’t change. I know when I deviate from it because I have a very powerful conscience that kicks me around when I do bad.

As for where it came from…

From my parents mostly. The rest from life experiences. I do things, I witness the consequences, and I learn that they are not good. I also have studied history for quite sometime and have drawn from that.

In other words, my standard is the sum of many lessons. To you, that may seem relativistic, but it’s my standard nonetheless.

To me, it means taking culpabilty for our actions and not making the same mistakes over and over. Taking the “boys will be boys” sance has never solved any problems. It’s a rather a cop-out saying that a young man is not to blame for his actions so why should he try to change?

Tell you what, I’ve already told you where I got my standard. Now, why don’t you tell me where your standard comes from.

Actually, in the case of the Taliban, it’s the rule of a ultra-religious minority.

Actually, I read that differently. I believe he meant the “dumbshit freak” remark to be self-derogatory. If not, no worries. I’m pretty imperturbable when it comes to insults.
