Is it just me or is this a train wreck?
I honestly didn’t laugh once so far. I hope the next 30 minutes get a whole lot better.
I liked it. Boy Dance Party was funny, and Willis was adorably campy playing against his type (pretty much his schtick for the whole show) in the Lady Gaga bit.
What did he flub at the very end of the show during the sign off? Katy Perry corrected something he said, but I missed it.
I thought a lot of it was fun. Cecily Strong did well on Weekend Update, the Gaga and Boy Dance Party skits were funny. It was a good show, IMHO.
Them playing can-you-top-this with the Jenner divorce had me laughing. And since nobody’s yet mentioned the dating-an-actress commercial or the increasingly absurd frat-boy drinking rules, I’ll give 'em a thumbs up as well.
Agreed on all counts. The divorce back-and-forth was really good.
The opening monologue was pretty lame and had me worrying the show was going to suck but it was redeemed by Boy Dance Party.
I thought both of Katy Perry’s numbers were entertaining, though the band in animal suits was vaguely disturbing. Now that she’s gotten rid of those ridiculous bangs she used to wear I can see what a gorgeous woman she is.
Something seemed off about Bruce Willis’ face. Did he always have no eyebrows? I don’t know, he always looks pretty handsome to me in a dude that shaves his head kind of way but last night he looked more like a chemo patient.
Good show but not the best of the season. The first two episodes were actually quite funny. I liked to opening skit with the government shutdown / gravity movie.
I thought the dating an actress commercial was too inside baseball. I’m surprised it got the green light.
The beer pong short was awesome, and they chose the right format for it. Those rhythms and inflections would have never worked live.
About half-way through it. Willis is really showing off his acting talents. That guy is good!
I also thought the commando briefing sketch was pretty funny, though Willis’s delivery seemed a bit choppy. I liked the astronaut sketch with the guy who likes his kitty cat but I don’t need to see it every week – they had him once last season, so I can stand to go 5 or 12 more shows before he’s back. That skit where the son is ragging on his mom’s date because of the flubbed line can go away forever and I’d be OK with it. The other sketches were pretty funny too, I think they’ve come out pretty strong this year so far.
I thought the episode was pretty good. Not as good as some, but about average.
I thought Willis did his best in the Gaga Talk Show sketch.
Any show where the cold open is something OTHER than the political impression du jour gets a couple of bonus points from me.
I heard him say something like “Be careful driving home,” and Katy said, “I’m walking home.” That’s what I think was going on. Seems like the show was running short, since Bruce was stretching for time in the sign-off and the previous bit was the eMeth commercial that they ran last week.
I don’t watch Project Runway (except when my wife has it on as I’m passing through), but according to her Bruce did a pretty darn good Michael Kors in the Lady Gaga talk show sketch.
Not a terrible show although I’d love to hear what Katy Perry’s band tells their SOs when they get home about how whe makes them dress.
While the Gaga sketch overall was good, the lady who played Gaga has one voice for every character she does. Can somebody just tell her that you cannot do impression if you never change your voice at all?
Strong is getting better at WU. Her timing is improving.
She does a terrific Diane Keaton.
“Hey, at least she doesn’t make us dress up like teddy bears and then twerk all up on our junk.”
(Although I wouldn’t mind Katy Perry twerking up on my junk.)
